Toddlers and young preschoolers will find the mixed up animal sounds hilarious. Feek's song-writing background comes out in a consistent rhythm and rhymes that aren't forced. My only complaint: I wish the pictures, which are fine, were more original; there's nothing that makes them stand out. Review based on an ARC from the publisher through Netgalley.

A delightfully illustrated book about all the animals on the farm that want to be like each other.
Preschool and kindergarten alike will love that the animals are all saying the wrong sounds.
A fun read with great rhyming.

Thanks to Net Galley and Thomas Nelson for the advance copy.

The Cow Said Neigh is a cute twist on an animal sounds book. We travel around the farmyard meeting animal after animal but they aren't saying what they are supposed to! Each one wonders what it would be like to be a different animal and imitates that animals sounds. This would be a fun read aloud that will definitely illicit giggles from young readers. I do wish a little more thought had been put into Duck though, he doesn't really have a reason why he wants to be a sheep and simply says "That would be good."

Silly, simple, and delightful, I can practically already hear the laughs this quick read will get at story times!

It's a very cute story about a group of farm animals who are very confused. They are imitate another animal and confuse the farmer. The illustrations are the best part of this story. There's not much substance to the book and no real lesson to learn. This book is perfect for the younger kids as they will love reading about the animals making sounds they shouldn't be making.

Full review on Goodreads. It was a simple text with rhyme and cute illustrations, but I did not see anything very appealing or fun in the story. It is not a book that would stand out on my child's shelf. Nothing wrong with it, just nothing to wow me.

This is a fun little picture book that will be a real hit with kids who love silly rhyming stories. We start out with a cow who thinks the horse lives in greener pastures, so decides to try on the horse's voice.

Then the horse sees a duck, and the duck sees a sheep, and so it continues as we check in on the various animals you'd expect to find on a farm. The playful rhymes follow a good pattern and I know a few kids who would love yelling out the animal noises at the right times.

The illustrations are amusing and this would be a fun little read for preschoolers.

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson: CHILDREN'S for providing me with a DRC of this book.

Really cute picture book. Great illustrations showing the animals around the farm, and the rhyming story tells how each animal admires and wishes for a trait one of the others has. Could be very fun to read aloud and do different voices for the animals, and I think both the story and the illustrations will engage children well.

This was a cute children's book. My kids enjoyed the story. They liked the rhyming and the pictures of the book. I enjoyed the rhythm of the story when reading it. I felt like the story ended too abruptly. I was looking for the farmer to redirect the animals to be themselves and realize that their lives were better than the animal they were pretending to be. I think that the message that comes across is that it's okay to pretend to be somebody else and not be content with who we are. Overall, the pictures added to the story and the lyrical words were enjoyable.

From New York Times bestseller Rory Feek, one half of the singing duo Joey+Rory, comes this delightful book. It's full of fun, energy and.... confusion. You see each farm animal looks at another and wishes they were just the same.... magically their sounds become just like the ones that they covet. Oh my! Farmyard mayhem ensues!

The cow wants freedom to gallop around just like the horse, the sheep wants an awesome snout to dig in the mud like the pig, the family dog wants to be inside the house like the cat, and the cat wants adventures and places to go just like her human, just to name a few.

Kids will have fun sorting out the animal sounds while enjoying the fun rhyming and adorable illustrations. I just wish there had been a wrap up at the end with everyone agreeing that they are perfect just the way they are. It would have been a lovely ending to celebrate uniqueness. The flip side could be at the end the farmsteaders ( I think I just made up the word) were celebrating diversity which is a great message too. Whatever your take away I know kids (and adults too) will love this hilarious story.

THE COW SAID NEIGH! is such a cute picture book for children. It’s a strange day on the farm when a cow goes “neigh” and the horse says”quack” and the duck goes “baa.” What? Kids will love the colorful stylized illustrations — I did! — have a blast substituting the real sounds for the right animal. Written by Rory Feek, C & W singer and husband of the late Joey Feek, whose tragic death too young from cancer broke hearts across the world. Rory dedicates this sweet book to Indiana, his darling toddler with Down’s Syndrome. I wish him wild success with his book writing ventures. 5/5

A fun book for children and parents. The pictures are bright and cheerful. The animals think the grass is greener on their neighbors turf. And the end result is not what you would expect. A well done take on a common theme.

Most people know Rory Feek and his adorable daughter Indiana through the death of his talented singer/songwriter wife Joey several years ago. Rory has written two other books for adults, but this is his debut children’s book on accepting who you are rather than wishing to be someone else. My kids laughed at the hilarity of the animals and stared endlessly at the beautiful illustrations. We will definitely be purchasing this book once it is published!

This was a super cute picture book. The illustrations were wonderful and the story was light and fun. I loved the rhyming. Each animal ends up making a different noise and the kids found that hilarious. I would have liked the end to wrap up in a way that made being yourself alright too, but it was fun for making them laugh.

Cute children's book with great illustrations and an easy to follow story that is perfect for reading circles! I think this is a fun addition to any story time and parents and children will enjoy reading it together too.

This is a super cute, rhyming book that has barnyard animals wishing they were other animals because of the things they could do. Each animal watches and makes an effort to sound like another. At the end of the story, the farmer is confused with all of the mixed up sounds coming from his barn so he does the only thing he can do, and joins in.
The illustrations are beautifully done, colourful, and lots of fun to look at with your child. Children love the silliness of the story (a cow doesn’t say “neigh”!) and great conversations can happen as you read together.
I guess the moral of the story is that what makes you uniquely you is you! Don’t try to be like someone else. Be who you were created to be.
Loved it.

This is from an advance review copy for which I thank the publisher.

This is a fun children's book aimed at getting kids to understand and experiment with sounds and to consider when the wrong sound is coming from somewhere. I can see it leading to a wider discussion - maybe even about what it means when the smoke alarm goes off. Is that the right kind of sound to hear? But it's not about that. It's about a very confused farm!

In a series of fun, bright, and colorful images, and some happy verse, we discover that several of the farm and domestic animals - and even the farmer himself, are getting some weird ideas about their station in life! The cow sees the horse and decides she would like to run free - so she starts neighing. The horse starts quaking, the duck starts baaing and this cascade effect ricochets around the whole farm! Will it ever end? Hopefully, otherwise it'll be a long night reading this to your little loved one!

I commend this for a fun and instructive read to young children.
