Some of the comics didn't appeal to me and are not that funny. Nevertheless, I still found some hilarious ones but not to the extent that will make me burst out laughing. It's not bad neither that good; it was just an okay. However, I still like the idea of McNamee to make a brilliant parody of some of the fairy tale characters and other famous characters like as Harry Potter. For fans of John Mcnamee, this collection of his Pie Comics is highly recommended. But for my other fellow comic enthusiasts, I advise to go and check out about the author and his comics first online so you can decide if it's worth it or not. |

A completely new and hilarious take on many of the old fairy tales and lots of other stories too. I really enjoyed these comics and I plan to look up more from the author too. |
*thank you to Netgalley and Diamond Book Distributors for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review* 4 stars. This book is HILARIOUS!!! Ohh I really enjoyed this! If you have ever had a bad day (and seriously, who can say they havent!), and are wanting something that is light and easy to read, but can make you laugh, then this is the book you need to pick up. My only downside is that im not such a fan of the cover. I dont know what it is and yeah it may grow on me, but first glance at it is not why I chose to read this. But that is my only complaint (and it's not really much of a complaint because the inside of this book is amazing) I loved all the references to tv shows, movies, fairy tales and ever other type I haven't mentioned. Aimed for teens to adults (definatley not for children), this comic book is one you could pick up time and time again and still not get sick of it. I'm definatly going to be reading this as much as possible while I have it and I strongly suggest you do too. Highly recommended. |
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased opinion. Goldilocks and the Infinite Bears is a collection of mostly one-page and two-page comics that take stories from pop culture and introduce an unexpected element. Some of the comics made me literally laugh out loud, and almost of all them made me at least smile. There were one or two that I didn't “get”, so I probably am just unaware of the original material being spoofed in the comic. Be warned there are a few jokes at the expense of Christianity, so if that's not something you can laugh about, you might want to pass by this book. |
This collection of John McNamee's (of Onion fame) early comics ages well. This item will mostly likely appeal to collectors of comics and fans of McNamee, although it should be noted McNamee's entire collection is still available online for free. |

Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book. I found the online strip a bit too hit & miss, but in this collection it seems more consistent. Some genuine funny moments & pop culture observations here. |
A very funny collection of simply-drawn comics showing that wit is more important than artistic skills. |
Thanks to Diamond Book Distributors who publish lots of graphic novels (yay!) and shared one as an ARC. Mcnamee’s humor really cracked me up in some panels. This is definitely for adults, but I could see quite a few pages being of great use in lessons in a middle school/high school classroom. You do need to have background with fairy tales and other older famous stories (like the creation story) to understand the humor. I did laugh aloud for a few and that’s pretty impressive in my book! A dinosaur who is smashing cities who realizes maybe he’s not feeling it today.. a kid asking God for swag.. there’s a few funny gems in here. A fun read if it matches your style of humor and you’re a fan of graphic novels/ comics. I also wanted to mention that I really did enjoy the style of his simple drawings— it works well paired with his humor. |
**Big Thanks to NetGalley for lending me a digital copy of this.** I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I love fairy tales, and this had jokes about fairy tales and modern content. I laughed a lot. These are for adults, I guess that's one to stress. Some of the comics I shared with my kids, other pages I swiped through immediately. I had read it first. But just keep it for yourself to be safe. I found it interesting that the creator had suffered an injury that changed how he drew, and these comics came out of the recovery. I highly recommend this comic! |

Fanciful, funny, and occasionally surreal humor occasionally spoiled by unnecessary, very foul language and a few over-the-line digs at Christianity. |
This was an unexpected gem I found in net Galley's 'read now' selection, which is always a hit and miss affair. This was a hit. The graphic novel consists of simply-drawn cartoons - several panels and sometimes more than one page to each topic, illustrating humorous and unexpected outcomes to stories arising from assorted inspirations such as fairy tales, pop culture, religion and so on. The very first one, for example, shows Goldilocks entering a room and unsuccessfully sampling various servings of porridge, and eventually revealing that the reasons she cannot find one to her taste is that this is hell and it's where porridge thieves are sent! That's the kind of humor, and sometimes it's hit and sometimes miss. There were several of these I simply didn't get, or I did get (or thought I did!), but did not find funny, but there are enough here that anyone is bound to find something to their taste. The closest better-known example of this kind of humor that I can reference are the cartoons of The Far Side, although this is a bit different from that. I had the same feeling of hit and miss with those cartoons that I do with this, but this was, overall, funny enough and original enough that I consider it a worthy read. |
This collection of short, comics that have been online before has simple drawings, but not simple humor. Sometimes the humor is stubble. Sometimes it hits you over head. Some strips are funnier than others. But, quite a lot are laugh out loud funny. These images below are not the funniest. They are just funny random ones I picked out The whole book is 130 pages long, of which most of these are the aforementioned cartoons. <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-734" src="http://www.reyes-sinclair.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Screen-Shot-2018-07-15-at-10.25.13-AM.png" alt="" /> <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-733" src="http://www.reyes-sinclair.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Screen-Shot-2018-07-15-at-10.25.18-AM.png" alt=""/> <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-732" src="http://www.reyes-sinclair.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Screen-Shot-2018-07-15-at-10.27.48-AM.png" alt="" /> <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-731" src="http://www.reyes-sinclair.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Screen-Shot-2018-07-15-at-10.28.20-AM.png" alt=""/> <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-730" src="http://www.reyes-sinclair.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Screen-Shot-2018-07-15-at-10.29.12-AM.png" alt="" /> <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-729" src="http://www.reyes-sinclair.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Screen-Shot-2018-07-15-at-10.31.13-AM.png" alt="" /> These cartoons are pretty timeless, as they are caught up in humor from revisiting old fairy tales, or common legends, or Genesis. If you find these humorous, you will enjoy the whole book If you find these offensive, then don't bother picking it up, as there are quite a bit more of the same. #GoldilocksAndTheInfiniteBears:APieComicsCollection #NetGalley Thanks to Netgalley for making tis book available for an honest review. |

Goldilocks and the Infinite Bears is a collection of comics that are short, sweet and for the most part hilarious! I found myself shaking my head and chuckling at some of the quirkiest humor I've seen in a long time. Lots of fun! |
I thought this was an interesting collection of mini-comics and panels. The eclectic mix had something for everyone. There were some clunkers in there but overall, it was worth reading. |
The art style is very aesthetically pleasing and simple to read. The art was definitely my favourite part of this collection. I do like how it twisted some of the famous stories though I wish this had more structure as they were all just randomly put together. It would be great to have some cohesion between the different stories/comics. Some of the comics just fall extremely flat and aren't funny. This is definitely male, millennial humour about having big butts or being too lazy to change the remote. It felt like something that should be shared on a Facebook page and not something in a comedic book. Also, there were some that I just couldn't understand no matter how many times that I read them. However, I did find some of them hilarious, it was just a matter of consistency. For example, the one about historians stealing from graves and then someone today stealing a watch from a grave was funny or the one where the dinosaur destroys the city. There were some pages that were just in bad taste, like inferring that a donkey who uses gay slang isn't worthy of being alive or mocking people who don't conform to gender norms. This didn't read like satire and was problematic. Overall, I'd recommend this to people who are either a fan of McNamee or humour that is similar to his. |
McNamee's is exactly the kind of fun and wonderfully ridiculous work one would want to have around whenever anyone is in need of an absurd pick-me-up. In other words, by this reader's standards it's nothing short of top notch comic collection. |
2.5 Stars - This collection of comics didn't really impress me. Out of the entire book, only 3 comics made me laugh; the Harry Potter references didn't even get a giggle out of me. To say this wasn't my sense of humor is an understatement. Additionally, the art style was almost too simple. I can appreciate the effort that went into this book, but it just wasn't for me. |

Really enjoyed John McNamee's Goldilocks and the Infinite Bears. More than once found myself handing my device to my hubby who also snickered happily at the strips I shared. Pie comics appeal to my sense of the ridiculous and would satisfy those that enjoy humor around obscure (and sometimes not so obscure) references. Good stuff and I will definitely recommend to others in my circle that share my sense of humor. Full disclaimer: I received a digital ARC copy of this book from Net Galley and the publisher at no charge, for my honest review. #GoldilocksAndTheInfiniteBears:APieComicsCollection #NetGalley |
This is a fun collection of quirky comics often with an unexpected twist. It was a quick and easy read that I really enjoyed. |

This is a fun comic collection. I thought the stories would be all about the Goldilocks and the infinite bears as the title suggested, but they're actually only vaguely connected. The stories range from based on fairy tales, classic superhero comics, to just random stuff. Some of them are hilarious. I couldn't stop myself from laughing out loud in public when I read them. But there are some that genuinely confuse me, too. For me, it's another fun little book to read through coffee breaks. It might be great to have it in your phone to read from anywhere. |
