I received a preview except of Stygian from Netgallery, in exchange for an honest review.

In Stygian we get the story of Urian. Who is growing up in Kolosis, with his brothers and sister. Stryker being his Damion father and his human mother. How he meets and becomes friends with a dragon named Serrazyn. Urian has his fair share of struggles with having to drink blood, being an Apollite, and the curve balls life throws at him. This book so far has it all, the action, the heartfelt moments, and the vivid world building that captures the reader.
I would recommend this book to fans of the series as well as anyone who loves fantasy and romance.

I don’t review excerpts. If you don’t want to share the book, that’s fine, just don’t expect reviews.

Fun starter even if read like a journal like Acheron or Styxx. Still love Urion but want to read something more up to date than forever ago. Backstories are nice but not a full book length worth all the time. It's becoming repetitive.

So let's just talk about this glorious book that I received an excerpt of. I have followed Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series from the very beginning. I have been through all the highs and all the lows of all the books because after umpteenth number of books not all of them are going to be good however this book is going to be glorious!

Like I mentioned before I just read an excerpt of this book and I don't know how long it's going to be but I am more than excited for it. This book is all about Urian and his origins. I have to admit that I didn't think Sherrilyn was going to go from the very very beginning but I'm all for it.

I cannot wait for the rest of this book and from what I read I already know this book is going to be 5+ rating because it's simply amazing there's no doubt in my mind that this is going to be one of her top books from the series. It's going to be rated high up there with Styxx which seems fitting.

This is going to be incredible, I can tell. I love the special books that she writes that has the extended backstory. I read somewhere that she has a PhD in history, and I can tell she did her research. I love that a different type of Daimon exists. I know a lot of them were annihilated, but I hope we see the Marzanni again.

I am going to cry great big tears if Urian and Sarraxyn don’t finally get to be with one another.

When I saw Stygian on Netgalley, I could not click “request” fast enough. Then, to my dismay, I discovered it was a preview excerpt instead of the entire novel. I will have to wait for the paperback to finish the story.

The excerpt basically covers Urian’s childhood and life in Kalosis, following the first years of the Apollite’s curse. I like how Kenyon explains how some of the Apollite’s assimilated their new circumstances. It reveals how Stryker came reside in Kalosis and owe fealty to Apollymi.

I especially love how this excerpt shows the type of father Stryker had been to his children. It is neat to see that side of the man. Also, I have always been curious about Davyn. Why both Urian and Stryker treated the man like family?

I loved this story! I read all of Sherrilyn Kenyon's novels [that are not the YA ones] so when this popped up as an option I didn't really read the excerpt enough to know who's story it was going to be because that didn't matter to me! To find out that it was Urian's was a surprise and a completely wonderful surprise. I have always loved Urian's character and to find out his past is awesome. It was a shock to have the story stop where it did, but I should have expected it since this is only and excerpt! I can't wait for the novel to come out so that I can read the rest of it!

Urian had such a rocky road throughout his life and to find out that he was married so many times before the one that we knew about and to also find out that he is really in love with the sister of some of the newer dragon shifters we've been introduced too. I LOVE IT!!!! I really love all of the historical and mythological stuff. An amazing addition to this really awesome series.

A grandson of a God.? A twin but is he? A short life span then what? And a forbidden love and a life spent in darkness, serving a Goddess? . Are all questions that take the reader of Stygian on a suspenseful ride through the time before Christ. Sherrilyn Kenyon continues her Dark Hunter series with the story of Urian the son of Stryker and a human. He grows up feeling like he doesn't belong, which we all can relate to.. A story of love, sacrifice, revenge and war are woven t0gether to show that the main character is strong, but flawed.

Urian has never known a life where he can be in the sun. He's always been his father's favorite. He's always in trouble and has a special relationship with the Goddess that protects them. He is also the grandson of a God. But the Goddess knows his true identity and vows to never tell. Due to the disease cast by his grandfather on his people his family is also effected and their life span is cut short and a decision is to be made at age 27. Urian all his life has been bullied and abused by his siblings because he's different, so he feels like he doesn't belong. When his father is on the verge of death he stumbles across the one who comes to know and love him best. Unfortunately do to the disease he's afflicted with they can never be together. Urian's mother's life is in danger living in their community so she goes back to the world she came from. Urian visits and finally realizes that his mother needs to live her life without them in it. A group of his clan head to his best friend's village and when they arrive its being attacked by humans. He rescues a woman and her children and they get marriage and it turns into a disaster. Urian and his brothers go to avenge their mother's death. His sister has an abusive first marriage and Urian almost kills his brother in law when he finds out and does when his wife turns to his brother in law. Urian is asked by an Amazon to be her mate or slave. He goes to live with her for a year. When her people are attacked he brings the survivors back home. He finds out that his one true love and best friend had been lying to him, He comes home hoping to apologize and renew their friendship only to find her gone. He knows he'll never see her again. And realizes just how much he loves her.

I'm left with questions like. Will he find out the truth about his family ties. Does he find the love of his life again. Will war be fought. Will he become the Stygian that he is meant to be. I look forward to reading the entire book from one of my favorite authors. Sherrilyn Kenyon is never a disappointment.

I voluntarily read an advanced review preview excerpt copy of the book

I read an preview excerpt copy of this book and I loved it. I read the excerpt in one day and believe it was long. The excerpt was enough to basically get his whole youth and early adulthood. As you read you know there is so much information to come and I can't wait to see what else Sherrilyn Kenyon has in store for the reader.

What I loved the most about this excerpt was that you get to see how he changes overtime and what made this man become the mysterious guy he is in the beginning of this series....If you are a huge fan of Dark Hunter series you will see cameos from the previous star characters and hear some familiar names. If you have not read this series before from what I can tell...you wont be lost.

Overall this book was great, it reminded me of Acheron's story without some of the doom and gloom, I mean I cried through Acherons whole first half of his book. This book while it does have sad moments it will make you laugh...you just may cry (because I did) and hopefully you will fall in love just like I did.

As soon as I got approved to read this preview of Stygian I put down the book I'm currently in the middle of and started reading it. This was a long preview by the way but I loved it. I enjoyed seeing the early part of Urian's life and omg I didn't know that Styxx is Urian's father (I haven't read past Bad Moon Rising despite owning all the books in Kindle form and I really need to fix that). Plus Ash has an older dead brother. Wait what? I missed stuff because I haven't read all the books. I really enjoyed the friendship he has going on with Xyn. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of this book when it comes out in August. Hopefully, I'll be caught up with the other books by then.

Sherrilyn Kenyon is a master of this genre. I have read all her books and have been recommending her for years. I can't wait for this to be released!!

This review is for an excerpt available from Netgalley.
Urian has been a favourite character in this long running series which is intricate, at times complicated and very addictive. If honest I do believe they are best read in order but having read this preview I can say that in the style of Acheron and Styxx the author gives us Urians life from the beginning which involves implanted him into an unsuspecting woman whose husband is the son of Apollo, so we see how Stryker struggled and raged against the curse that ravaged his family. Urian is precocious, brave and yet so very lonely but he befriends a dragon all the while feeling like an outcast amongst his own people.
This excerpt shows Urian learning about his powers and most of all it shows a humane side to him that’s at war with his violent nature. Urian is never what others expect him to be and I thought he deliberately put up walls in order to cope with feeling unwanted at times. This does stop at a crucial part when Urian is heartbroken and I’m very keen to see what happens next.
This author is so talented that her characters and worlds come to life. If you love mythology and legends then this series is a must read. If I’m brutal perhaps recently not every book has absolutely wowed me but from what I’ve just read I strongly suspect fans will be very happy with this book although I think perhaps you might have to believe in reincarnation.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

I have been waiting rather impatiently for this book to be released. I am not reviewing the whole book due to only receiving a Small preview of this book. I am definitely hooked and looking forward to reading further. I am a huge fan of The Dark Hunters.

I received a preview to review, and it was about 100 pages or so into the book. I am a bit torn, since I don’t know how this ends. Something that I have found frustrating with Kenyon’s characters of late is their convoluted relations. I am all for backstory and character development, but things are out of hand. There is too much with the fetus switching, parental lies, and random relations. Not to mention time traveling and reincarnations. It’s not that I want everything simple, but too often things seem to be overly complicated. Like with the Chronicles of Nick, which I stopped reading because he was a character that had been too well established for his teen stories to make sense, and according to the reviews my concern was right because a lot of readers were pissed at the ending. Also I enjoy reading things from the villains perspective, however what I don’t like is Kenyon’s need to make the bad guy likable so their evil deeds either are explained away, or completely reframed negating the plight of their victims. Like what was done with Styxx. He was one or Ash’s main torturers, but then he gets his own book and it made Ash a liar and their sister a bitch. I wish she would just leave the bad guys as bad, explain why they are they way they are, and then over the course of the story have then find redemption or not. I’m just over everybody being a victim.

What I did enjoy about what I was able to read was the banter between family members. Urian’s personality. And most of all finally a character who was not severely abused as a child by family members and/or guardians. While Urian’s life wasn’t easy it was nice for a change to be free of the torture porn. I will buy the book, because I do want to see where things go.

***I've read the full version in an ARC I received from work***

Let me start this by saying that I do talk about some specific plot points in this review. I do not spoil anything but if you want to walk into this story completely blind than this review is not for you. I tried to keep it as simple as possible while reviewing but as you all know, with the stories being so intricate its hard not to spoil anything so I had to be a wee bit vague. I tried!!!

Also, Kenyon’s books need to be read in order!!! If you haven’t read the first 28 books you cannot just pick this one up and start the series. It just won’t work. They like to say you can read these books out of order but you really can’t.

Stygian is a lot like Acheron and Styxx. Kenyon gives us the back story to who Urian is- how he came to be the man we’ve all found a soft spot for. I loved the first 80% of this book (I know the percentages because I read it on my kindle). It was so interesting seeing Urian and his brothers and sister grow up- the dynamic, the drama, the fights. Diamons have always been the bad guys, the ones that go bump in the night, but as Kenyon does so masterfully, she turns everything we thought we knew on its head. It truly is amazing the way Kenyon can make you sympathize with the bad guys so easily (remember reading Styxx’s book?). Being able to see another side of Urian was the best part of this book. I was especially fond of watching Phoebe and Urian grow as a couple. Which was something we didn’t get to see much of in the other books. Urian has been a favorite character of mine for a long time now and this book just made me love him more.

This book does revisit some of the major things that have happened in past books, especially Phoebe’s death and Styxx and Bethany coming back into Urian’s life. These repeats I was fine with. It refreshed my memory and it was actually nice to get Urian’s perspective. However, after getting past that and the first 80% we head into Dragon territory and we know how that goes. The past 4 books (Son of No One, Dragonbane, Dragonmark, and Dragonsworn) have been a little rough- they were confusing and repeated plot lines. I was excited about Stygian because I thought we were finally moving away from that, however, we get a little bit of the dragon confusion at the end of this book. It was hard to get through and kind of brought the book down from being a five star read for me. I think that entire section could have been skipped or at least shortened because the end (after the dragons) felt rushed and was over way before I thought it should have been. I would have preferred to see the ending (which I will not spoil so this will be a little confusing) more detailed and have more interaction between Urian and some of the lead characters.

If the book had less of the dragons and had been a little more flushed out at the end, it definitely would have been a five star read! Although, the epilogue has me so excited for the next book in the series!!!! Like super excited!!! Bring on more Dark-Hunters!!! Even though the last few books have been a little, shall we say off, Stygian gives me hope that the rough patch is over and a new and brighter horizon is in sight!

Kenyon will always be an automatic buy for me. Even with the rough patch. She is just such a master story teller. She weaves such intricate tales that bring you to your knees. It’s hard not to get caught up in the mythology and love. This book wasn’t perfect but it was still pretty amazing! I got to see the writing I fell in love with once again with this book. I love this series and I hope it never ends! Ever!!!
