I was so happy to receive this book because after book 12 and 13 I hoped Faith Martin would no longer have her readers ask themselves what would happen with Hillary's stalker. And of course, we know now. We also know that the relationship between Hillary and Steve turns into a real one.
One of the strong points of these series is - and therefore also the 5 stars - that the books are rather short, or better: compact. No pages full of people who turn out not to be important for the story. No, you better remember the names you read because they all play a role, however sometimes a small one. This series is addictive!

Thanks Netgalley and Joffe!

I would like to thank Netgalley and Joffe Books for a review copy of Murder Never Misses, the fourteenth novel to feature former DI turned cold case civilian investigator, Hillary Greene of the Oxford police.

After the events of the previous novel, Murder of a Lover, things are hotting up with Hillary's stalker. DI Geoff Rhumer is tasked with identifying him while Hillary concentrates on finding the three missing women he has been taunting her with.

I thoroughly enjoyed Murder Never Misses which is a great read and one of the better novels in the series. This surprised me as the stalker's identity is well known to the reader and normally I prefer the thrill of the hunt for an unknown perpetrator but it is very well done and the best way to handle the subject matter. I like Hillary and the team's uneasiness, the trainees' desperation to know what is going on and their disappointment at being out of the loop. I even enjoyed the stalker's point of view (a most unusual occurrence). It held my attention from start to finish, not least the major twist in the second half which is an absolute cracker that I didn't see coming. I'm not sure how realistic it is but it's great fiction.

I think the characterisation is particularly strong in this novel. Hillary is falling in love with her boss and boyfriend, Steven Crayle, and it's nice to see after so many bad times but the stalker is upsetting her so she's tense, ill at ease and not sleeping well. She's worried that she's not at the top of her game but the reader isn't as events unfurl and she displays her usual knack for thinking laterally. Ms Martin also paints a compelling picture of trainee, Vivienne, an airhead who thinks she's smarter and more important than she really is. She's very recognisable. The stalker is shown as a fantasist with a strong sense of self preservation. I think in most ways he rings true.

Murder Never Misses is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.

Excellent storyline. Wonderful main characters. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it highly.

I really do think the Hilary Greene series by Faith Martin would make an excellent TV series! As usual, Hilary is the first to figure out who has been stalking her, and claiming murder of three other women who have been reported missing years ago. It will be interesting to see where her romance with Steven Crayle ends up!

4 and 1 / 2 stars

Hillary has survived a near miss by her stalker who calls himself “Lol.” It is supposed to stand for “Love of my Life.” DI Geoff Rhumer is called in to assist on the case. With three women identified and possibly more missing, there is a great sense of urgency to the case.

As Hillary, Jimmy, and Sam (Vivienne is nearly useless), dig into the cases and begin their interviews, something just doesn’t add up. Especially for Hillary and Jimmy. Meanwhile, Steven (Hillary’s boss and lover), DI Rhumer and Jimmy are searching for Hillary’s stalker. They know now that he is a cop and that he works or has worked in Administration.

Through a series of astute deductions and quick moves, Hillary solves all three of her missing women cases. At the same time, Rhumer’s task force is bringing in five good suspects that may be Hillary’s stalker. When one doesn’t show up for work, they suspect the worst.

In a brilliant, but rather foolhardy move, Hillary, Jimmy and Steven capture the stalker.

This is as well written as all of Faith Martin’s novels. The growing relationship between Hillary and Steven is nice to see. Jimmy is a gem. Sam will make a good police officer if he decides to go that route. I really enjoyed this book, although it was not quite as good as some of her previous novels, I still liked it very much.

I want to thank NetGalley and Joffe Books for forwarding to me a copy of this great book to read, enjoy and review.

Thank you Net Galley. This is a wonderful series by Ms. Martin. I have read this one before in its original avatar. Rereading it on my kindle was fun. Highly recommended.

This is book number fourteen in the series and was previously published as "Walk A Narrow Mile". Once again the author does not disappoint, giving us murder and mystery set in and around Oxford in another excellent Hillary Greene novel where the former DI is now working as a civilian on cold cases. Hillary has returned to work after the recent very nasty attack on her by her stalker and everyone is determined to catch him. His communications with her have revealed the disappearances of three women and is there evidence that they were being stalked by him as well? The race is now on to catch this man and at the same time the ever brilliant detective has her hands full solving the missing persons cases in another rapid page turner. In my opinion the reader would benefit from reading the books in order, or at least start at book twelve in order to get to know the new storyline and the team involved. This is fast becoming one of my favourite series and I am already eagerly looking forward to the next!

Anothe enthralling story from Hilary Greene! Couldn’t put this one down. I was on the edge of my chair with the hunt for her stalker and alongside this she uncovers another cold case. Fantastic story.

My rating: 4.5 Stars

Hillary Greene, former DI, is now part of the Crime Review Team, as a civilian consultant. She is back on the job just two weeks after a near-deadly attack from her stalker, as she almost lost her life. She is more determined than ever to catch him, and not just because of her attack. There are three missing women and there is irrefutable evidence that her stalker was their stalker as well. Are the women dead, and was it at his hands? Hillary and her team are on the case, but then she begins to develop another theory. Is she right? As she begins to pursue her theory, another life is on the line and it becomes a race against time to identify the stalker.

Hillary has a reputation as an investigator that is second to none, but right now she is a bit unsure. In large part it is due to her recent attack, and then there is the very strong likelihood that the stalker is someone at headquarters. Who in this large group could be this heinous? Meanwhile, Hillary's personal life has taken a curious turn. Her relationship with her handsome boss has reached a new level. I was enthralled at the breakneck speed at which Hillary investigated the stalker. The conclusion was utterly thrilling and had me turning the pages rapidly. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I have been waiting for this book! I read a lot of series and some of them serve quite well as standalone. But, this book follows close on the heels of Book 13 in the series, Murder of a Lover. I suggest at least reading that book before this one, although reference is made clearly enough if a reader wants to pick up from this book.

Many thanks to Joffe Books and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book was fast paced and kept me captivated until the end. The author's writing style kept me invested in the story.

Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for this arc.

Hillary's back! Yeah! Okay, she's a little discombobulated -- her stalker is still stalking her -- yes, she's feeling a little wobbly. Her personal life is in a state of "flux" and she's trying to sort out how she feels about it. But her new team at Crime Review is starting to gel nicely with one exception and she's back at work. The newest case under review is a "real dog's breakfast".... a real knotted mess that has how many different strands? Where is just one loose strand that can be pulled on? Hillary flounders for a bit, but finds that first loose strand and starts pulling..... finds another loose strand and pulls on that one as well. Her stalker keeps on stalking... right into a trip wire that's been set to trap him.

Another great read, nicely paced with familiar and likeable characters.

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.

This instalment is solely occupied with the discovery of Hillary's stalker from the last book. Hillary is (surprisingly) allowed to work the case from the perspective of the women stalked before her, and a serving DI is in charge of the attack on and stalking of Hillary. This makes for a rather artificial divide, and the majority of the novel is quite scrappy: Hillary interviews family and friends of the missing women, seemingly getting nowhere, and we hear almost nothing of the other DI's work. It was hard for me to keep the three missing persons cases clear in my mind and hard to care that much about them really.

The solution to the historic stalking cases was a bit of a cop out and the capture of the stalker something of an anticlimax. I did enjoy the debriefing by Donleavy at the very end and the Hillary/Steven romance is still sweet, but this was not one of the better novels in this series.

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A REVISED EDITION OF A BOOK FIRST PUBLISHED AS “WALK A NARROW MILE.”

After her retirement, Hillary Greene has returned to Thames Valley Police HQ, acting as a cold-case consultant for the Crime Review Team, looking into murders which the police have never been able to solve.

While dealing with her own personal stalker, Hillary finds three missing women ... all who were stalked in the very same way as Hillary. It starts quietly .. a note here and there ... flowers received from an anonymous admirer ... gifts of jewelry ... and no one ever saw anything out of place.

The stalker has sent proof to Hillary that he abducted and killed these women. Talking to friends, family, and co-workers, nothing seems quite right to Hillary. Has she lost her amazing ability to crawl into a killer's mind? Or is it her new attraction to her handsome boss keeping her distracted?

As the stalker antes the game, Hillary is determined to track the final days of the missing women.... and preventing another killing when the stalker turns his attention to someone close to the investigation.

This is one of my favorite series! Hillary Greene is not your everyday detective. She's 50 and having an affair with a man a lot younger than she. She's brilliant at solving the cold cases that no one has ever solved ..especially murder cases. She is well-respected and liked by her colleagues. She's fearless and wants nothing more than justice for the victims she represents.

MURDER NEVER MISSES is the fourteenth in a series of page-turning crime thrillers set in Oxfordshire. There are twists and turns to keep the reader engaged. It's not heavy on suspense, as the reader knows who the stalker is. The mystery is what happened to the missing women. And it's fun watching Hillary putting all the pieces of the puzzle together.

Many thanks to the author / Joffe Books / Books n All Publicity / JIll Burkinshaw / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Faith Martin never misses either. I've never read a second rate book by this author. Hillary Greene is a very human ex-DI now working for the 'cold case' team, who has lost none of her edge. These are re-release books under new names, but certainly aren't dated in any way. Once I pick up one of Faith Martin's books, I don't like to put it down until I've finished it.
