Although I was only afforded an excerpt of this book, the sneak peek was worth the read. The excerpt included a prologue and three chapters, which was roughly only about fifty pages, give or take. Only the first couple of pages was enough to get me straight into the action of the novel. With a story set on the raging sea, the stakes are high for the all-female crew going up against the deadly league of men under the antagonist’s reign. The stakes are so high, in fact, that one has to prepare for character deaths before the ball even gets rolling. The story’s face-paced narrative had me reading this excerpt from start to finish. The all-female crew also added a little something to the story for me, especially because it’s such a great vision to see all of these girls holding all of these crew roles and keeping each other going. Despite not getting much of a chance to enjoy the main two characters, and only ever getting vague references to the main antagonist, this novel definitely has some spark and some grit to it, and I look forward to divulging into the rest of the story and its deadly sea.

If Wonder Woman merged with Patrick Obrien's Maturin novels and they jetted off to the future on an all female ship you would get Seafire. A great story with strong female characters. It is great to see a fantasy novel about women that isn't just about a man rescuing them. This will grab the reader and hold them in place until the very last line.

Thank you for the sneak peek of this story! Definitely looking forward to reading the book. The story was full of bad ass characters and a sci-fi adventure that makes you want more!

Pirate adventure with a touch of sci-fi!
Thanks to Edelweiss, NetGalley and Razorbill for the opportunity to read and review Seafire by Natalie C. Parker!
Caledonia sails with her mother, brother and close comrades until they are attacked. Caledonia and Pisces, her shipmate, are the only ones that are left behind. Caledonia blames herself for the fatal attack and kidnappings because an enemy Bullet, one of Aric’s men, distracted her by pretending to be kind, then he stabbed her. The rest of the crew are either dead or enslaved. The story moves four years ahead and Caledonia and Pisces have gathered a new crew for her mother’s rebuilt ship. They still thirst for vengeance. An enemy, Oran, is captured after saving Pisces’ life and he states that he knows where Caledonia’s and Pisces’ brothers are and that they’re still alive. He’s giving them help and information for the brothers’ rescue. The crew gets out of some close calls because of how they help each other and Oran begins to wear down the crew’s distrust. The suspense grows to intense levels while Caledonia searches for her brother and the ending...All I can say is that I need the sequel now! 5 stars for a pirating adventure with a touch of sci-fi!

From the excerpt that I read, I was enthralled. I wanted to know more about the world Natalie Parker had made. The characters were very distinct and each had their own voice. There was trauma and action from the very beginning which had me eating out of her hand.

Caledonia had made mistakes in the Before chapter which totally changed her life and those around her. It is a violent water world where woman are warriors and loyalty is everything. Four years later, she has rebuilt her life with her last remaining friend and now they wreak havoc on those who destroyed her life. With Pisces by her side, their merry crew of sailors chip away at the Bullet's drug ships.

At the very end of the what I had to work with, Pisces takes a grappling hook to the side and is dragged into the Bullets arms.

So now I'm left with a "WHAT HAPPENED?!! I want to know and I'm fascinated with this life. Can't wait to read the whole book.

I was given this excerpt to review by NetGalley for an honest opinion.

Hard to get too much of a sense of this book in just a few chapters in the sneak peek, but what I read I enjoyed. I liked the characters and the initial set-up. Thought the idea of an all-female crew was intriguing (as was little touches like "The Marys") .

(No link to formal review on Goodreads as I haven't read the whole book yet.)

This is an amazing start to a new series! This book is exactly what I am looking for when I look for (YA) fantasy: strong female leads, well-written characters, and a great plot. The fact that these strong female leads are also PIRATES makes the story even better! I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of this book as well as the rest of the series!

Thank you to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Penguin Young Readers Group for a SNEAK PEEK of this title in exchange for an honest review!

After reading the teaser chapters for SEAFIRE, I can't wait to read the entire book. With its blend of female empowerment, vivid characters, and swashbuckling action, it's a natural for teen readers (and adults) who crave these things in their reading. Plus, it's so cinematic already, SEAFIRE would make an excellent movie.

I received a free sneak peek of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I received a free copy of the first couple chapters of this book. Wow. If the book continues the way it started, it's going to be great. Caledonia Styx's family ran a rogue ship that defied a corrupt warlord Aric Athair and his bloodthirsty army of Bullets. As she and her best friend are on a remote island gathering supplies, Athair attacks her family's ship and everyone onboard is killed.

The story picks up four years later and Caledonia is captain of her own ship with a crew of young girls and women that have suffered at the hands of Athair as well. Their goal is to cripple his fleet and get revenge for their loved ones. As the last chapter I was given ends, Caledonia attacks one of his ships and her best friend is injured and captured. What a cruel cliffhanger to leave me on!!

I am really looking forward to reading the rest of this book when it comes out. Hopefully the rest of the book will be as good as the first few chapters. I will provide a full review once I've read the rest of the book.

Definitely a great beginning to a pirate YA novel! The tension builds right from the beginning. The characters are sharp and memorable. I did feel like the writing style took me a little bit to get used to, but once I got into it, I felt like it flowed well. There's not too much I can say, since this was just a sampler. I look forward to reading the rest of the book!

I love the girl power in this YA sci-fi action drama.. I only read the first few chapters as this was a "sneak-peak,' but it is so well written and full of action, I'm already drawn in. I know I will love the rest of it, and I can't wait to read it!

I usually tend to avoid reviewing sneak peeks cause I don't have the rest of the book and things can always go downhill very fast, however I was hooked from the beginning with this book and I really look forward to keep reading! Also the cliffhanger is just what I *didn't* need today. Can't wait to read the rest of the book!

A girls-only pirate ship? Count me in. This is promising to be amazing, and although the sample was very short and I can't really say much about it, the premise is certainly something that gets me hooked so I'm really hyped for this book!

I enjoyed this chapter sampler very much! I will definitely be purchasing the full novel in the future!

Well that was an explosive beginning to what I'm sure is going to be a fantastic novel. I flew through this sneak peek, after purposely waiting until I was very close to release day. Just 6 days left! Woohoo. I had never read a book that even closely resembled a story about pirates until this year. I have to say I ADORE books that a written about ship on the open seas, with warfare, and seeing good versus evil fighting. I am counting down the days until I can continue where this story left off.

Seafire had me hooked from the very first line. I was instantly drawn in by Parker's world. I don't know about you, but one of my favorite types of stories are when I think I'm reading something historical but then suddenly we're talking about advanced technology. I had this picture in my head of these giant, solar-powered ships coursing across the sea in rebellion. The world building is stunning and I couldn't help but continue to turn the pages to see what would happen next. Without giving away any spoilers, this is a story about the power of females and friends who become more than family, they become the key to survival.

This wasn't really my thing but it is very interesting. I can tell from the short snippet that this is well written and a lot of people will enjoy it
