I thought the premise was good and overall the story was engaging but the story line was a bit tedious at times and was very predictable. I also found the protagonist a bit flat and hard to connect with.

Thomas Perry is one of my "go-to" authors so my expectations for "The Burglar" were sky-high.

Although this tale of a female cat burglar stumbling into the scene of a triple murder was engaging and intriguing, it was not in the same league as Thomas Perry's earlier thrillers.

I listened to the audiobook read by Christina Delaine.

My favorite Thomas Perry thrillers were narrated by Michael Kramer.

This is the second Thomas Perry book I have listened to narrated by Christina Delaine and both narrations have been disappointing.

Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A fast-paced and engaging book. Lots of twists and turns that keep you guessing until the end. Well-developed characters make this a great read.

Thomas Perry's latest novel, The Burglar, is a well-crafted mystery that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. The story revolves around Elle Stowell, a professional burglar who is hired to steal a collection of valuable art. However, things quickly take a dangerous turn when Elle realizes she is not the only one after the artwork.
Perry's writing is fast-paced and engaging, with plenty of twists and turns that keep the reader guessing until the very end. The characters are well-developed, and Elle's character in particular is fascinating to follow as she navigates the dangerous world of art theft.
One of the strengths of The Burglar is Perry's attention to detail. The art world is portrayed realistically and vividly, and the intricate planning involved in a successful burglary is portrayed with precision. This level of detail adds depth and realism to the story, making it all the more engrossing.
Overall, The Burglar is a highly enjoyable read, with plenty of action, suspense, and intrigue. Fans of the mystery genre will not be disappointed.

This was a DNF for me. The extreme detail to every scene was just too much for me and made me dress going back to reading. This just wasn’t for me, but I can see where others would definitely enjoy the book!

Can't believe it took me this long to pick this up, because as soon as I started it ,I was hooked , and I do mean hooked, so much so that I ended up staying lating reading because I didn't want to put it down

This was my first Thomas Perry book so I went in without the same expectations that some seasoned Thomas Perry readers have come to expect.

I enjoyed the book and was invested in the journey of Elle trying to find the truth behind the murder she witnessed which put her life on the line. I agree with other reviewers that Elle definitely did some things that you wouldn’t expect for someone that is already immersed in a life of crime but I could also be that murder is leap for someone that is just in it to steal high cost valuables. Regardless of the little things, I was entertained by this book.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

This was my first foray into books by Thomas Perry.

I am definitely open to reading other books by this author because I felt this had potential to be great but didn't wow me. I love a good thriller and felt this could have been better than it was.

Elle has always gotten by by stealing. She blends into the ritzy neighborhoods where she steals jewels from the rich. Unfortunately, she stumbles upon a triple murder while trying to steal from a wealthy art dealer. Now, she must run for her life as someone tries to make it impossible for her to tell her tale.

Thomas Perry never disappoints. He is consistently amazing and this book continues that unbroken record. He's the hardest working man in thriller fiction.

While this is not the best Thomas Perry book I have read, no comparison to The Butcher’s Boy or Metzger’s Dog, it was an enjoyable read with an interesting main character.

She was supposed to have all the skills, it's what she does. Steal things, it's her living. However, by this book, she's not good at it. She's not as clever as she needs to be. Elle, frankly, is losing her game. Much of the book got dry and dull because the same stuff was repeated, repeatedly., with great redundancy, Yes, like that. I couldn't connect to Elle, because she just did too many stupid things for a woman who's supposed to be amazing. I haven't read this author before, and I had hoped for a better story. This one fell short of the mark for me.

Thanks to Net Galley for my copy of this book. This review is mine, left freely.

The Burglar could have been a much better story but it seemed to fizzle out towards the middle of the book. I was hoping for more as the premise seemed so well done. A crime novel that needed more meat to it's bones.

This was my first book by Thomas Perry and it likely won't be my last. I enjoy the unique concept of this thriller with Elle, who appears to be a wealthy girl and always blends in with her surroundings. However, stumbling upon a crime scene was the last thing that she expected. This had me constantly wondering what was going to happen next and wondering what would happen to Elle. It was a wonderful read.

Elle Stovall is a professional burglar. She fits right in with the Beverly Hills crowd so she targets the richest homes. When she stumbles on a brutal triple homicide Elle realizes she has become a target, someone thinks she knows too much. The plot develops slow but there is plenty of suspense. The ending was not my favorite but I will give this author another try. He hasn’t disappointed me in the past. This book just wasn’t my favorite of his. Thank you to net galley for a copy.

While I was excited about the premise of this book I was definitely disappointed with its execution. This was obviously a book by a man trying to write a female 20 something perspective. We are told over and over again how young and attractive Elle is and how she's a burglar and how she knows what she's doing. Unfortunately this was my first foray into Thomas Perry's books and even though he's loved by many, he's not an author I'll be searching out in the near future.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.

I was putting off reading The Burglar by Thomas Perry because I was a little concerned by the low average and ratings on Goodreads, but it turns out I had nothing to worry about! I loved this book and was just completely fascinated by it.

I know she's technically a criminal, but Elle was such a great, badass character and I loved her so much. She was very smart, clever, and methodical which I appreciated and even though the book is very detailed and heavy on specifics it really worked for me. I would say the pace is slow but steady, and once she starts trying to figure out who committed the triple murder and who is following her, it picked up a little more and there was a decent amount of action. It also had a highly satisfying ending that I loved.

I listened to the whole book on audio and was glad I did. The narrator, Christina Delaine, was absolutely fantastic and I loved her voicing Elle. I think I would recommend the audio over the book just because it's good at a high speed and it will easily get you through all the details that you may not be interested in. Personally, I loved the amount of detail Perry choose to include, and it really brought Elle the burglar to life for me.

The Burglar is clearly not going to be for everyone, but if you are looking for a suspenseful slow burn and don't mind all the details you could definitely love this book like I did.

Thank you to the publisher for my advance review copy via NetGalley. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Not as enjoyable as other Perry novels due to a sadly unlikable protagonist, I still found myself furiously flipping the pages to get to the end.

I've read other Thomas Perry novels, and this one was a let-down. The most interesting thing about it is the unusual perspective of a female cat burglar. It follows the character Elle Stowell as she walks into a triple murder as she's about to pull off a robbery in an LA mansion. She makes her escape, but becomes the target of professional hitmen. The plot is both simplistic and mundane, not up to Perry's previous standards. It might make a good Lifetime movie though.

This was a very original take on a detective story. Elle is a thief, a cat burglar, she sneaks in and sneaks out and makes a tidy living for herself in her clandestine choice of career. But one night she inadvertently enters a home and witnesses three murders victims lying on a bed and a camera is rolling recording the scene. As you can imagine she is terrified and flees for her life but as she didn't see the perpetrator she does not know who she is running from. This could have been more intriguing I felt. It had promise and it did draw me in in parts but it lacked credibility at times. It was fast moving and kept me interested but parts of it were a bit silly for my taste in reading. I give this 2 and a half stars.
