This was a decent book, although it dragged a bit and elaborated in places that didn’t need it. The storyline didn’t come together as cleanly as I’d have preferred and the ending was too abrupt and made no sense to me. I kept looking to turn the page for a better developed ending but all I found was the end of the book. I am not familiar with this author but am honestly not impressed with his work based on this book.

I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would! It's a slow burn type of mystery but the main character is very resourceful and there was a plot twist I didn't really foresee. The author was perhaps a bit too detailed in his description of the plot twist but other than that it was a good cat and mouse adventure. The ending seems like a bit of a set up for a sequel. I enjoyed this and would read others by this author. Thanks to Net Galley for the review copy.

Very good read with lots of twists and turns. Elle is an entertaining main character and it is enjoyable to read how the tables turn on her. It was fun reading about her burglary “methods”. Would definitely recommend.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC! I didn’t care for it, however, and would prefer not to leave a negative review.

The Burglar is the latest book by Thomas Perry. From the beginning of the story the reader is rooting for the "bad guy" and feels a connection to her. Sometimes The Burglar seems like a "how to" manual and at others has you at the edge of your seat. I was given an early copy to review.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I thought that this book was an original and interesting approach to a murder mystery.
I’d like to see this main character in another book and this made into a series.
I would definitely read another book by this author.

The Burgler by Thomas Perry
Ellie Stowell, a young woman in he 20’s, has a penchant for burglarizing homes. Not just any home though. She has a way to pick out only the best homes with the best items to take. That is until one day when she happened to chose the wrong home. Inside she sees a triple murder inside the ritzy home of an art dealer. She is not the only one who is sneaking around though. Ellie learns that now she is a target. He knowledge of the murders has made her a wanted woman. Ellie must now try to figure out who the murderer is before they find her and make her the next victim. The author Dora’s a great job at setting up the scenes and keeping you wanting more. You will even be rooting for the bad guy, Ellie the burglar, in this one. The characters are well written with true to life personalities and have a way to keep you guessing. There are a few places where the story drags some but it is not too bad. Other than that I highly recommend this book.
Thank you to netgalley as well as the author for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review

Absolutely loved the detail that the author went into in describing how the incredibly adept lifetime burglar, Elle, accomplished her daring feats. Her character was badass, but compassionate, incredibly competent and amazingly insightful as we watch her case out houses and businesses as well as determine how closely she is being followed throughout the book. While unfortunate that it was her own upbringing that trained her in the art of burglary, she's clearly developed her own highly tuned methods for relieving people of their valuables. Elle never comes off as arrogant about her talents however. Rather, she recognizes her weaknesses and plans accordingly and researches thoroughly. Actual storyline aside, I loved this character and I sure hope we get to see her again!

Thomas Perry has created an interesting way to mix a suspense thriller with a detective story. Elle is the title’s burglar, a woman who happens to choose the wrong house to rob and ends up becoming a witness to a murder scene. With no one to turn to for help, Elle goes on the run, dodging danger as she attempts to learn why three people were killed.
Author Thomas Perry deftly handles a difficult job. With much of the beginning of the book lacking in dialogue, he adeptly keeps us reading and it didn’t take long for me to find myself in Elle’s corner, hoping she finds a safe way out of her predicament. For this reason, I found it hard to put the book down, and read it in just a few sittings.
There were only a few things I didn’t like, the beginning being one of them. I personally was not thrilled with the author’s style of writing and almost set the book aside. However, there were so many comments on the sales page about his talent at creating suspense that I felt I had to give it a chance. After a while, I managed to get wrapped up in the story and left my style issue behind.
I also was not happy with the way Mr. Perry chose to end the book. I thought he had adequately explained what had happened, and felt the “total reveal” at the end was unnecessary. I hesitate to say more as it is difficult to explain without potentially spoiling the plot, but you will know what I mean when you read it.
Regardless, neither is a strong enough reason to pass on this book. The plot is laid out in what appears to be an effortless task, and we have no choice but to follow the author as he continues to wring more suspense out of the story. An enjoyable book with a different breed of hero. Recommended. Four stars.
My thanks to NetGalley and Mysterious Press for an advance complimentary ebook.

Elle, a burglar, discovers three dead bodies when she breaks into a house. The discovery puts her life in danger
and forces her to investigate the murders. Will she unravel the reason for the murders before the killer catches up with her? Elle is a likable character and I enjoyed the fact that she's an antihero. The other characters are't very well developed and I could nit-pick over some plots point. This was a good read but didn't wow me.

Elle is a skilled burglar who breaks into a house and happens upon a triple murder. Soon she is on the run while unknown bad guys try to kill her. It's a little strange to root for a burglar or to think of her as being one of the good guys, but despite her criminal ways, Elle does really want the murders to be solved. She is intelligent, resourceful, and highly skilled. All of these traits make her story fun to follow. There is a sense of menace and plenty of suspense, but any violence is dealt with quickly, so that the adventure is really about watching Elle sneak around and investigate the murders. This is the first book I have read by Thomas Perry, and I look forward to reading his other work.

This was my first experience with Thomas Perry, and won't be my last. What fantastic thrilling mysteries interwoven throughout this novel. Do yourself a favor, just read the first chapter, and you will hooked. There's something Perry's approach to this intriguing unique work. Elle is an awesome character and happens to be our Burglar. Remember, read the first chapter. After then purchasing , do thank me. I am sure you too will be giving The Burglar GIVE STARS!

A fun time-waster with a pace that is breakneck. There were times I would literally forget to breathe. Ultimately, the whole thing is slightly forgettable and inconsequential, but damn, it was fun while I was in the middle of it.

Overall found the writing interesting but was hard to be attached to any one character. The book felt a little shorter than what it should have been. I hate writing bad reviews but unfortunately i had to force myself to finish this novel.

I love a good cat burglar and a murder mystery thriller! I really enjoyed the premise of this book! It’s a change of pace from your cookie cutter thriller.

The book starts well, engaging the reading in moving action. It does however get bogged down to a slow read through the middle. While this is trying to build tension – it is just slow. It does however improve the pace building to a climax.
Elle Stowell is a young woman with an unconventional profession: burglary. But Elle is no petty thief - with just the right combination of smarts, looks, and skills, she can easily stroll through ritzy Bel Air neighborhoods and pick out the perfect home for plucking the most valuable items. This is how Elle has always gotten by - she is good at it, and she thrives on the thrill. But after stumbling upon a grisly triple homicide while stealing from the home of a wealthy art dealer, Elle discovers that she is no longer the only one sneaking around. Somebody is searching for her. As Elle realizes that her knowledge of the high-profile murder has made her a target, she races to solve the case before becoming the next casualty, using her breaking-and-entering skills to uncover the truth about exactly who the victims were and why someone might have wanted them dead.

Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for an early copy of The Burglar in exchange for my honest review.. This was my first Thomas Perry novel. and I really liked this novel. I liked the character Elle - I thought the author did an excellent job of describing her as well as describing her escapades. - as long as its fiction - I don't like burglars in real life! I found this book to be well written with twists and turns.

Elle isn't your normal burglar but burglar she is. She doesn't rob just to rob in my eyes it's the risk she takes that keeps her doing it. She's not a bad person but a person that likes thrills until everything falls apart. In one of her burglars she comes upon a murder. So now she is being followed are they good guys or bad guys. It is a fun book because it has you guessing throughout.

Elle Stowell is young and petite and as she jogs through the wealthy neighborhoods, no one would question her appearance in the area. What people do not realize is that Elle is working as she jogs. She is a burglar and this exercise allows her to case the homes for her next job.
With resources running low, Elle breaks into the home of an art gallery owner. As she explores, she comes across the owner and two women murdered in his bedroom. The murder was captured on camera, but unfortunately the killer was not. Elle’s activities were detected by security and now someone is tracking her. Anonymity is necessary for Elle to succeed as a burglar. To protect herself, she decides to investigate the reason for the murders and ultimately find the killer. Using all of her skills, she enters the homes of the victims to discover what brought them together.
Perry’s character is a master in her chosen profession. As Elle cases homes, he explains how she chooses her targets and the security systems she has to overcome. As her pursuers close in and additional murders occur you can feel an increase of the tension, making this an excellent read.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Mysterious Press for providing this book in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to Netgalley and Grove Atlantic for this ARC of The Burglar.
The Burglar started off slower and picked up in nicely in the middle. I had high hopes for the end of this book but felt slightly disappointed when I finished reading. The action was just getting going and then it just fizzled out.
**spoilers**
Elle is a professional burglar living in Van Nuys. She does everything she can to blend in so she can scope out new places to rob. Elle comes across a house that looks perfect; newspapers are piling up and no new cars coming or going. She finds the weak point and gets inside, listening for any movement. She begins her prowl and comes across something she will never unsee...a brutal murder.
She thinks she's covered her tracks well enough so the cops won't know she was there, only now she's being followed. She thinks it's the cops at first, but as it turns out she doesn't know who it is she's up against. As more murders begin happening, Elle turns from burglar to investigator. She uncovers the mystery piece by piece while trying to stay hidden from the black SUVs and people trying to kill her.
While the story had me hooked initially, the ending felt like a letdown. There were definitely a couple times I found myself holding my breath and trying to read faster. Then at the end, I felt almost rushed to the conclusion. Somehow, the chain of events didn't seem probable in the real world and the whole thing just felt anticlimactic. This is why I can only give 3 stars.
