This is such a darling book that is so encouraging to young (and old!). I love the cute illustrations and the message of the book. |
This is a really cute story and would be a great gift to give. I love how it shows the hope children have to do bigger and better things. This illustrations are very precious and colorful. |
With a warm rhyme this book touches the heart. And narrative illustrations are simple, yet carry a truth that resonate is inevitable. This work approaches in a simple way a feature of our nature, the capacity of our consciousness to flow in love with ease and grace. I have no religion, yet I am in favor of the experience of Love as a high level of coherence, consciousness and bliss. In this so sweet, visual and almost poetic language, my heart resonated in the truth of what my life purpose is, to be an instrument of Love. Through all of my traveled paths, I have witnessed how children express this gift. Adults have accumulated resentments and it is our responsibility to resolve to return to love, and from there distort as little as possible the flowering of our loving children. We will also be able to teach them how to let go of their resentments, feel fuller. From the hand of self-awareness and self-love that radiates to others, happiness will result, which will expand the possibility of a better world. |

First off, I love the message that Kathie Lee Gifford is trying to send with The Gift That I Can Give. While we so often focus on our visible, physical gifts, such as being athletic, Gifford reminds young readers that the best gift that we can give is our kindness, which comes from the love of God in our hearts. That said, I found the rhyme and rhythm of this book frustrating. I had to regroup on many pages to find the emphasis that made it work, but when reading a rhyming picture book, I prefer those that roll off the tongue with no effort so that I can focus my energy more on the messaging of the book. So, while I love the message and the intent behind the book, I don't think I'll be purchasing it for my own shelves. |
I enjoyed reading “The Gift That I Can Give” by Kathie Lee Gifford to my grandchildren. This is such an adorable book to demonstrate to children about using their God-given gifts to help others. This story teaches young children, in a simple story, that they each have gifts to help the world and they can do it now, even though they are young by acting with compassion, giving a family member an extra-big squeeze, visiting someone who is sick, or cheering on a friend. My grandson asked questions while reading this one, wanting to know what his gifts were, and we had a nice discussion. ending in a big hug and kiss. The illustrations by Julia Seals were large, sweet and attractive to children as well as showing a diverse group of children all with smiling faces. I recommend this book to families, church libraries and public libraries and Christian School libraries. It is a a beautiful message. The publisher, Thomas Nelson: CHILDREN'S, generously provided me with a copy of this book to read. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own. |
What a darling book! I have a toddler and I"m so excited to give this book as a gift to his little friends. We are Christians and I just love this premise of a book for children. |

First of all, this book is very religious.. Putting that aside, it is an uplifting and inspirational story that encourages children to find what they are capable of and how they can help. The illustrations are what makes the story. It is beautiful poetry and is perfect for the younger audience. Considering the religious nature of the book, it won't be for everyone and that's okay. |
This is the first book I read about Kathie Lee Gifford and all I can think is that maybe she has a girl like mine somewhere in the world. What a good illustrator is Julia Seals (I already added her as a favorite, I really liked her job! since she captures the inspiring content so beautifully and tenderly). This book captured my attention from the beginning, not only because of the pretty girl that comes out in the illustration but because of the title. Let me explain why. Currently, I hear many children say that they will be a certain career because that "will make them earn a lot of money". it is sad that they only have that focus on themselves and not anyone else. On the other hand, the author talks about the gift that we can GIVE. By using the word give, we are helping them to be less self-absorbed and to teach them to focus on others, how to collaborate, contribute, serve. I think it is a very important topic to teach children and talk openly because culture will shout otherwise. On the other hand, what a beautiful surprise I had to receive this book just these days when we were talking about these issues. The book will be published until October 23, 2018, How exciting is that?! I believe that this book is also very useful to talk with young children about the unique and specific design that God made creating them, as well as to initiate or reinforce important conversations about identity, purpose, gifts, talents, putting everything at the service of others and God. The way they only can do. My daughter is turning 8 years old on August 20 and she we were so excited to review it together. She gave it 5 stars! If you have the opportunity to acquire it, do it, it's very nice. It is one book that we will surely visit again on some other occasions when questions about these issues arise. I read it, she read it and when her dad came home from work, he read it too. If you educate at home or your children are learning the English language, this can be a good and simple addition to practice reading and standing up to discuss these issues with them. Do note that this is a religious book about gifts from God, so if you are not religious, it would not be a good choice for you. However, if you are open to that, this book is a very uplifting and endearing read. While reading, it allows for discussion with the audience: "what do you think your gifts are?" "Do you think we should volunteer to help those less fortunate?" etc. It allows the reader to tell a story to a child, and to educate about giving back to their community at the same time. The illustrations are beautiful, and I appreciated that the main character was a girl and that it was not biased towards stereotypically "feminine" activities or gifts. The illustrations of persons were very diverse. All in all a lovely read! |
An absolutely beautiful little book and very sweet. Also very religious. So if you're not a religious person then this book may not be for you. |
This sweet story of finding your purpose and role in this world is told in rhyme. The illustrations are endearing. I appreciated seeing various peoples represented. The conclusion that the God just wants us to love and grow is precious. There's so much pressure on kids today to be outstanding and unique but to be kind and loving is the true mark of a good character. I also enjoyed seeing the little girl ask God for her purpose. |

This is such a fun and uplifting book for the young reader as well as any age. There is so much good insight & love throughout The Gift That I Can Give with easy ideas on how a child can give no matter what age. |

Here is a beautifully written children’s book about how God made us each special in our own ways with our own gifts and talents. God has given us all one specific gift that we must share with others, but we must figure out what that gift might be among all the others he may have blessed us with. The illustrations are very child-friendly with pictures of playing games and on the playground. I would recommend this book to any child because of the importance of the book’s message. |
This is an absolutely delightful children’s book that explores vocations and the dreams of what one can be when one grows older. The author uses beautiful illustrations and an excellent rhythm that will attract the young readers as well as those growing a little and beginning to ask the question, “What will I be when I grow up?” Children often hear that they have a hidden talent and this charming book delves into how God gives each of His children a talent that they can use for Him. The writing is simple but eloquent in its revelation of God’s truth for all children. What a beautiful gift this would be for any child in anyone’s life! I can ‘t wait for the book to be released so that I can get a copy for my young grandchildren! |
All of us want something important to give the world The colorful and touching art is the crowning jewel of The Gift That I Can Give, illustrating the many ways that children can serve others and use the various gifts that God has given them to be his hands and feet in the world. While the book starts by illustrating the major attention-getting gifts such as singing, athletics, and dancing, it goes on to point out the importance of the quieter gifts, such as encouragement, empathy, kindness, and sharing God’s love that are as important as the showier gifts and needed in everyday life. The art will keep little ones enthralled and help start many conversations. The inner knowledge that all gifts are important and valuable will stick with them for a lifetime. The Gift That I Can Give is a sweet book with deep roots to share with little ones. Highly recommended. |
“When I was small, Right from the start, God poured out a gift Deep down in my heart. What is this gift To use as I grow? When will I see it? How will I know?”... The Gift That I Can Give is a beautifully written poem for children with lovely illustrations, showing them that they don’t have to be grownups to do good and change the world. Each and every child can do good in their own way and give back what God gave them for free. The gift each child can give, could be a smile, a hug, an “I love you”. That gift could be to share, to support, to encourage. As Mother Teresa said, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” Thanks to Kathie Lee Gifford, Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy. |
For young children, the question "What will I be when I grow up?" is another way of looking at vocational calling. This precious book by Kathie Lee Gifford starts that conversation in a gentle way but allowing the child to ask what giftedness he or she already has in their life. For children of any faith background, the greatest gift of this book is that it emphasizes the great "gift" we are all given, the gift of God's love. Darling illustrations, perky rhymes, and something here for every child to love. |

This is a sweet book that encourages young children to look for ways to be helpful. It is faith-based/inspirational in that it gives God credit for creating people with unique gifts and personalities. The ending reveals that God's love is ultimately the source for giving to and helping others around us. The artwork is simple and colorful which will appeal to its young audience. |
