Solid, unusual, suspense thriller. A woman shows up at Laura and Tony's house, with no recollection of who she is, just that she had intended to visit this village and she might have lived in this house. It gets more interesting when they learn that a previous resident was psychotic and had murdered her best friend. Furthermore, she might resemble this stranger. The premise was interesting with lots of focus around amnesia and memories. And the pace relentless, ensuring engagement and easy reading. As the story developed though it became less plausible, and I found the characters a bit stereotypical, filled with mysterious pasts and ulterior motives. Enjoyable while I read it, but ironically I may "forget its name". |
A mystery woman turns up at the house of Laura and Tony and she claims she lives in that house. As we get into the storyline, the woman, whom Laura makes ‘Jemma’ is seemingly suffering from amnesia. Not remembering who she is, where she is from and now she has got to this house, all is not quite as it seems. This is a fast paced thriller with a lot of twists and turns and one which has you just racing to get to the next plot twist. For me however, as soon as the plot began to unravel, there was times in the book that felt out of place, a little bit rushed and all a bit confusing. Some parts I felt I needed to re-read. |
A gripping story with twists and turns galore and I can honestly say I have never read a book involving this subject, which made it all the more interesting (I can’t say any more than that without spoiling it). It will certainly get you thinking. Thank you NetGalley and Head of Zeus for letting me read and review this book. |
Read July 20 Oh my gosh this was so delightfully dark and twisty and well thought out. Everything wove together beautifully which was miraculous considering the number of plot threads, the large cast of characters, the geographical locations, and let’s throw in some ancient culture and religion and to top it all off the ending was technically left on a mini cliff-hanger! The initial plot was “simple”. A woman turns up at a young couple’s house with no recollection of who she is other than she thinks she lived there previously. Tony – the husband – decides to name her Jemma for the time being, a weird choice since it turns out a woman named Jemma did live there… Until she killed her friend… Is their temporary houseguest a killer or is there more to her than meets the eye? Add a paranoid wife and a local journalist with trouble of his own and you get an intricate tale of memory and its impact on oneself. |
A good read, but unfortunately it did not capture my attention as much as I hoped it would. The story itself is good, but I wonder if it was just the wrong book for me. Everyone else seems to have really enjoyed it. I blame the pandemic for lack of concentration.... :-) |
This was a very thrilling read. Imagine you forget who you are, but then you start remembering little bits. The book took some twists I didn't expect, and I didn't see the ending coming! Recommended. TB |
The story of what happens when someone loses their memory. A fast paced, edgy thriller telling a tale laced with confusion, heart stopping moments and shocking revelations. |
This was an intriguing story that interested me from start. Who is the mystery woman who has turned up at Tony and Laura’s house? She arrives having forgotten who she is, lost her handbag and only has a memory of the house she turns up at. It was an enjoyable read that had be hooked Would recommend. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review |
A tense thriller, this keeps you guessing on who to trust throughout and keeps you turning the page. |
Not what I was expecting from this thriller but I still really enjoyed reading it and it took me by surprise more than once. |

From the first paragraph this novel is enormously engaging and it goes on to deliver intrigue, confusion, suspence and mystery for every paragraph after with only the merest flagging of pace midway through. The premise is hooky and well executed, the characters nicely fleshed out, and the ending satisfying. Just a really well written and enjoyable bit of fiction. |
Forget My Name was a fantastic psychological thriller that hooked me in from the first few pages. Written well with a superb twist. Brilliant read that I struggled to put down. |
Too many predictable coincidences. There are plenty more books out there better than this. It was really hard to get into and it droned in places it shouldn't. |
Unfortunately I read this book a while ago and seem to have missed it when writing reviews.. However, thanks to NetGalley for the ARC :-) |
A speedy read, that flowed nicely with the mystery unwinding in bite size chunks. Fairly unique in its premise, it captured my attention pretty quickly, and I desperately wanted to know who this mystery woman was, and how she came to be in the village. As the plot unravels, and characters identities come to light, I found it didn't quite pack the punch I was expecting. Whilst there are some exciting twists and turns, there wasn't ever the key shock moment I was hoping for. A decent thriller. |

Wow What a book I was thinking about this book when I wasn’t reading it and I was so eager to finish it to know what has happened When I first picked up the book I had no idea what was happening and I could never have guessed the ending. It was fantastic thriller and was so fast paced I love a book that you cannot guess the ending and this was easily a five star read for me |
A woman turns up on your doorstep, saying she lives in your house, with no idea of her name or anything that has happened in her past. Would you let her in? In this gripping thriller, Tony decides that the mystery woman is called Jemma, with a J, and despite his wife Laura's reservations he invites her in and sets out to help her find out who she really is. Along the way, we meet Luke - who thinks she could be his daughter, and the local GP - who thinks she may be a killer who used to live in the village and has recently been released. Told from a range of points of view including Laura's, Luke's, Tony's and 'Jemma's' I was quickly drawn into their world and questioning who I trusted...if anyone! I polished this off in a weekend and was hooked until the last page, even though I was a bit wary of reading the ending when home alone for a week! I'll certainly keep my eye out for more by JS Monroe in the future. I received an eARC of this book from the publishers via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. |

I received an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author J S Monroe. An exactly-what-it-says-on-the-tin psychological thriller. I read this on holiday and enjoyed it. An easy read for by the pool with some interesting twists. However nothing particularly groundbreaking or unpredictable, with a few too many convenient coincidences to get to the eventual resolution. 3.5 stars |
Really did know what to expect from this book but it far outweighed any preconceptions I did have This is a brilliant read, the plot twists from the first page and doesn’t stop until the very last word Unusual premise and great characters. The first book I’ve read from this author but definitely will not be the last |
Sorry but I just couldn't get into this book at all - it started off ok but then it just went off the boil. Nothing wrong with the story just one of those things |
