I finished An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen last night and I decided to sleep on it before I wrote my review. I liked this book but didn’t love it. I enjoyed the premise of this book. It was a creepy fast paced book, however it fell a little short for me. I wasn’t crazy about the characters as they all seemed shady/suspicious to me...that could have been the authors goal?! I would have liked it more if I could have connected with at least one of the characters. Noah was the only character I cared about.
My final rating is 3.5/5 Stars.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for sending me an advanced readers edition in exchange for my honest review.

I recently enjoyed The Wife Between Us and after seeing great initial reviews, I was excited to read the latest from Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen.

An Anonymous Girl is a boilerplate psychological thriller for the Gone Girl crowd. But the twists never come, the plot drags, and the chapters told from alternating points of view feel tedious and gimmicky.

In particular, the writing for Dr. Shields feels like nails on a chalkboard. Her chapters are written in the second person and, quite unnecessarily, using passive voice. This results in an antagonist for whom the reader doesn’t really care to understand.

I’m disappointed by this book and look forward to taking a break from the litany of sub-par women’s thrillers that have saturated the contemporary literary market.

What????? People be crazy!

All I can say is don't pick up this book unless you have time to finish it. I was reading while getting dressed, making dinner-I literally could not put it down. Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen are the masters of the psychological thriller. And, while this book is very different from their debut novel, it doesn't disappoint!

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

This book was extraordinary- one of the best I’ve read in a long time. It held my interest from the first page through the last word.

Twenty-Eight year old Jessica signs up to take part in a Moral and Ethics Psychiatry Clinical Trial via computer, which takes place on a Saturday and Sunday morning. She will be paid $500 to participate. As a freelance makeup artist, she could really use the money and decides to participate.

Dr. Shields, the trial administrator feels that Jessica or #52 as she is referred to in the trial has set herself apart with her unique answers. Dr. Shields wants more. She wants #52 to deepen her commitment to the trial.

Dr. Shields wants to take this to a much more personal level, and will pay more cash. Number 52 agrees and what ensues is one of the most twisted, suspenseful, nail-biting stories you will not want to miss.

Today, I powered through a nasty headache to finish An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen because I was eager to figure out how it ended. It was worth it. In this book, Jess takes part in a psychological study that goes too far and gets too personal. There were a lot of twists and turns that kept me guessing and wanting to keep reading and the end did not disappoint. I do recommend you preorder this one (release date is 1/8/2019) if you want something that will keep surprising you throughout. Thanks to @netgalley and @stmartinspress I was able to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review. #ananonymousgirl #netgalley #greerhendricks #sarahpekkanen #book #thriller #readit

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced reader’s copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, I was very excited to receive this galley and I was immediately drawn into the storyline. By the midway point, the pace began to slow down and I found the story to drag on.. I was underwhelmed by the ending. Unfortunately, the book fell flat for me. I believe I’m in the minority and other readers will likely really enjoy this.

The next novel of psychological suspense and obsession from the authors of the blockbuster bestseller The Wife Between Us

Seeking women ages 18–32 to participate in a study on ethics and morality. Generous compensation. Anonymity guaranteed.

When Jessica Farris signs up for a psychology study conducted by the mysterious Dr. Shields, she thinks all she’ll have to do is answer a few questions, collect her money, and leave. But as the questions grow more and more intense and invasive and the sessions become outings where Jess is told what to wear and how to act, she begins to feel as though Dr. Shields may know what she’s thinking…and what she’s hiding. As Jess’s paranoia grows, it becomes clear that she can no longer trust what in her life is real, and what is one of Dr. Shields’ manipulative experiments. Caught in a web of deceit and jealousy, Jess quickly learns that some obsessions can be deadly.

From the authors of the blockbuster bestseller The Wife Between Us comes an electrifying new novel about doubt, passion, and just how much you can trust someone.

I cannot say enough good things about the magic that occurs when Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen team up to co-author a novel! An Anonymous Girl is gripping from the start and kept me hanging on every word until the very last page.

The book opens with an advertisement requesting participants for a psychological study on morality. Then readers are immediately introduced to protagonist, Jessica Farris, a late twenties, single, New York City woman making ends meet working as a freelance makeup artist. When she overhears a client talk of skipping a psychology study that pays $500, she decides to participate in the study instead.

Chapters switch between Jessica’s point-of-view and the perspective of Dr. Shields - the person behind the study. It is quickly revealed to readers that Dr. Shields is intrigued by Jessica’s survey responses, and Jessica is asked to continue her participation, eventually meeting Dr. Shields and being given personal “tasks” to complete for the sake of the study - or so Jessica thinks.

Eventually, Jessica becomes wrapped up in Dr. Shields’s marital issues and finds herself in the middle of a possible murder cover-up. She is forced to try to uncover the truth, about Dr. Shields’s marriage, the murder, and herself, before it’s too late and she becomes the next victim.

This was such a quick read because I couldn’t put it down if I tried. I honestly finished it in one day, and I cannot recommend pre-ordering An Anonymous Girl enough. This needs to be at the top of your winter reading list!

Being a psychological thriller junkie and a big fan of this dynamic writing duo I was thrilled to receive a copy from #netgalley.
This is a phenomenally addictive and page turning twisted story with fantastic characters. It had me pulled in right away. I instantly wanted no interruptions and to hide in my cozy reading spot, which is what I did. I read it two sittings with nary a break inbetween the pages I was flipping/swiping like crazy, if that's possible on a Kindle. 😁
There were lots of gasps, sighs, omg's out loud. Sarah and Greer are master storytellers and I absolutely devoured this book. Up until the last sentence of the last page I was addicted to the twists, turns, amazing characters and I won't say more nor spoil a word. It's that freaking good.
Bravo, ladies for a fantastic thrilling ride. I already want to read it again and have been discussing with a fellow book BFF.
In awe. Now I need a real live copy for my library. This is one to have so you can say, "You must read this!" I foresee gifting this one and it's a book club dream book. WOW AND WOW! 5 STARS.

This book was amazing. Like, I couldn't put it down amazing. This was as an addictive read as the previous book by this duo, The Wife Between Us. I had high hopes for this book and they were met and more!

Without going into too much detail, this book is full of deception, half truths, cunning, control and manipulation. A breathtaking compilation of all of those. I honestly couldn't put it down - even when sleep got in the way. I recommend this book to lovers of thrillers. Trust me, you will love this book.

*I would like to thank the authors/publisher/Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a fair and honest review*

Jess does makeup for clients celebrating special occasions, living month to month in NYC. She hears about a four-hour psychology project that nets $500 and lies her way into it. The professor invites her to continue the research for more money and Jess agrees, but she soon thinks she may be in over her head. What is Dr. Shield's real purpose behind Jess's involvement? What is the truth and who can she trust?

I really liked that the perspective shifts between Jess and Dr. Shields, slowly revealing a little more info. I continued to hop back and forth between who was responsible for a previous research subject's supposed suicide. I was guessing until the end.

If you thought The Wife Between Us was good, An Anonymous Girl easily surpasses it with a thrill and page-turning read that will keel you engrossed!

Thank you #NetGalley for an advanced copy of #AnAnonymousGirl!

I was more than excited to read this book. When I heard it was from the same authors as “The Wife Between Us” I couldn’t wait as that was one of my favorite books. This, unfortunately, wasn’t as great. The storyline was still very interesting and would make you rethink about ever participating in a study like in the book. I think this book also makes you really think about what the people closest to you actually see... you may think you are keeping a good secret or hiding something, but clearly you just never know what someone knows about you!!

After recommending The Wife Between Us to all my friends, just so I could have someone to rave about it with, I jumped on the chance to read a pre-release of An Anonymous Girl the minute it was offered. I just knew the writing duo of Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen would knock their next thriller out of the park, and I was right.

An Anonymous Girl is like a bag of your favorite candy, the kind where you can't get the pieces into your mouth fast enough. You eat (read) yourself sick, because it's JUST THAT GOOD.

Not wanting to give too much away, this is a deliciously dark story of obsession, morality, manipulation and betrayal. The chapters in this creepily suspenseful drama alternate point of view between the struggling make-up artist Jessica and the preeminent psychiatrist Dr. Shields. We watch as Jessica, merely wanting to make some extra cash, volunteers for Dr. Shields's psychological study, which quickly becomes the emotional equivalent of quicksand. And we watch Dr. Shields protect her marriage, by any and all means possible.

So many secrets, so many lies, so much manipulation. Be sure to take your anxiety meds before you pick up this novel.

Wow! Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. The story unfolds from two POV's that alternate chapters and intertwine in the most delicious manner! I love how the authors used first person for one POV and second person for the other. It was a great way to amp of the tension as the story unfolds. When Jessica, a make up artist, who is highly motivated by money to help support her family, lies to get into a psychological morality and ethics study, the story blossoms. Her innermost secrets and feelings are explored in the beginning of the study and the compassionate Dr. Lydia Shields makes Jessica start questioning what she does, but in a good way. As Jessica reveals more of her feelings, Dr. Shields asks her to expand her participation in the study and meet personally. Jessica wants the additional money Dr. Shields is offering and what she is asking seems innocent enough. However, as we get to see Dr. Shields viewpoint, we start to wonder if she is really a spider in disguise spinning an intricate web. This is a fabulous story about morality, ethics, betrayal and manipulation. It's hard to say a lot without giving away the plot. This story has wonderfully developed characters and a unique, amazing plot. Starting each chapter was like peeling back another layer of an onion as more and more is revealed about Jessica and Dr. Shields and what motivates and drives them. It is one of the best psychological suspense thrillers I have ever read. As it starts to drive towards the conclusion, one surprising secret after another is revealed. You definitely don't want to miss this book.

This novel was a tremendous & memorable read. I was engrossed by every page. Although this book was quite lengthy, I was not, at any time, impatient for it to end. Morever, the suspense & drama were nail-biting. The plot was polished and moved forward precisely. The characters were well-developed & believable. The main character, Jessica, was empathetic, human, & realistic.
I found the ending to be very satisfactory..
I recommend this novel to any reader who loves psychological drama & suspense with a bit of mystery thrown in.
Thank you, NetGalley, for the opportunity to read & review this impactful novel.

I loved this book even more than The Wife Between Us and I enjoyed that one a lot. I hope these two brilliant authors continue writing books together. I stayed up late at night to finish this one. I did not want it to end but I just had to know what happened to Jess. Their writing is seamless and you cannot tell which author wrote which lines. Thanks so much for the copy to review.

Talk about an addicting book! I just loved the latest creation by dynamic duo, Hendricks and Pekkanen. I couldn't stop reading - it was just too good to put down. This story had me hooked from the start and I loved every minute I spent with "anonymous girl". Her relationship with the Dr. and her husband - whoa! I got so tense and couldn't help but feel on the edge of my seat as I kept reading to find out what would happen next. I LOVED this book to bits!!

I received an uncorrected digital ARC through the publishers and Netgalley in exchange for a fair, honest review.

Wow! So for those not aware, this is written by the same duo who wrote The Wife Between Us. There's a few things to compare with that like how the book is written in three parts and how unreliable the narrators are. The story is shown by two narratives (one is obviously Jessica) and the other, well at first I wasn't sure if this was a scorned lover or something. Anyway, you figure out the second narrator regardless of where you think the plot is going. I don't think this was an suspenseful as The Wife Between Us but I do feel it deeper. There are moral and ethical issues and questions presented. The characters (no matter how minor they were) all added to the story and their presence made sense. I really enjoyed this story and I hope Greer and Sarah continue making amazing thrillers for a long time.
