2nd book by this powerful duo (and hopefully many more to come) I Anywho, this book is a must read for anyone wanting an intriguing read. There was 1 definite "bad guy" and I kept going back and forth on another character. This to me, kept me reading and reading for hours. |
Story: Jessica Farris is a make-up artist who participated in an academic exercise. This exercise is quite personal with expectations of honesty and vulnerability. It’s an experiment on trust, morality, and ethics. Overall: I’m intrigued and my curiosity peeked trying to determine the direction of this experiment. The story kept me on the edge of my seat with the anticipation for the unexpected. The story had clever plotting and attention to details. The twist and turns were unexpected. Every move was so calculated. I like this book better than The Wife Between Us. The style and delivery has many twists and turns that brings about an endless amount of entertainment. I thought this was a smart and intelligent story. I immediately liked the characters and was drawn to them because of this experiment. I liked Jessica’s recklessness, it fortified her characters drive to search for answers and investigate the psychiatrist. So many times readers tell you that this book was a page turner well I’m here to confess that in this case it truly was a page turner. Suggestion: When Lydia is having thoughts that are being expressed while in the same room as her husband it would be helpful to change the font to italics so to separate these words from the voiced thoughts. Also, the chapters need to state whose point of view is being addressed. |
This book was definitely entertaining. I feel that I finished my masters program in psychology while reading it also. Surprise ending and a nail biter throughout. All in all, I was impressed by the well thought out story line. Another great read from a talented author. |
AN ANONYMOUS GIRL was a great read! It involves a twisted and intriguing relationship between a therapist and the subject of an ethics study. Throughout their relationship, both women are testing their own limits, and each other's. A truly original plot well executed. Hendricks and Pekkanen make a great team and I hope they collaborate more in the future. |

Great psychological thriller. Alternating chapters between characters kept my on my toes. Creepy and suspenseful. |
I tried to hold off reading this book since its release date isn’t until 2019...really, I did try. In the end, I just couldn’t do it. I needed to read it ASAP. I loved THE WIFE BETWEEN US when I read it last year. It was easily a 5 star rating for me. I just couldn’t wait to read this book when I knew it had the potential to be just as good! While I was extremely excited to read AN ANONYMOUS GIRL, I was also a bit nervous. What if it didn’t live up to my expectations? I’m so, so thankful that this question was answered very early on. I knew that this book was going to be great when I was just a couple of chapters in. It’s so wonderful when books live up to the hype! I really don’t want to expand upon the Goodreads synopsis because it’s brief for a reason. You just have to read the book. There are so many twists and turns that I literally could not put it down. There are no good stopping points because something is always happening! It’s high speed from the first chapter. I read this on my Nook and I had to sprint to my charger when the battery started dying so I didn’t have to put it down. Instead of there being one BIG twist, there are smaller twists throughout the book that you never see coming. Don’t fret, just because they are “smaller” doesn’t mean they won’t make your jaw drop. You will definitely be on the edge of your seat! Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Just know that if you loved THE WIFE BETWEEN US, you will love this one just as much (or maybe even more)! While I initially wanted to wait to read it closer to its release date, I’m glad I read it now so I can urge all of you to pre-order it ASAP! You won’t regret it! |
A fantastic, edge-of-your-seat thriller!!! After overhearing a client's conversation, Jessica Farris sneaks into a paid psychology study. Ironically, upon arrival, she finds out that the study focuses on morality. Jessica proceeds to answer the questions asked and finds herself digging deep into her psyche to answer Dr. Shields's questions. Dr. Shields asks Jessica to continue in the study, although it will involve more in-depth experimentation. Jessica needs the money to assist with her younger sister's medical bills, so she agrees. The sessions become more alarming as Dr. Shields asks Jessica to dress certain ways and puts her in compromising situations. Soon, Jessica is no longer sure what's real and what's part of Dr. Shields's study or who she can actually trust. I would highly recommend this to any thriller/mystery fans. There are plenty of twists in the storyline and you won't want to put it down! |

This is a fantastic, psychological thriller. I could not put this book down. There were several twists and turns that kept me wondering what would happen next. This is my first book to read by Hendricks and Pekkanen. I am looking forward to reading The Wife Between Us. |

First let me say that I received a free advance copy of this book but that has no effect on this review. This is the first book I have read by these authors so I was not sure what to expect. The description of the book was intriguing so I was eager to read it. Very interesting plot with twists and turns that I did not see coming. It was a very good book and I look forward to reading other works by these authors. |

Fantastic book! What a rollercoaster ride. I loved every page!! I loved Jessica. She was so caught up in the research. I understand how young people can get involved in studies for money when they are struggling financially. They think it will be easy money, but get sucked up in something totally out of their control. Dr. Shield's was a total psycho and her husband,Thomas, was a total dirt bag. But,I still loved the book! Awesome job! |
This is the second title and my second read by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. I loved it! The consistent pacing and psychological thrills of this novel make it a fast read. The chapters alternate between the points of view of a young woman and a middle-aged psychiatrist. The psychiatrist, Dr. Lydia Shields, is conducting a survey that later becomes a psychological study in the name of research. The young woman, Jessica Farris, participates in the study. Right from the beginning, her motives are the type that could be attributed to a curious and almost-desperate woman or a disturbed woman. The authors are good at stringing you along for the ride. Likewise, Dr. Shields’s motives and thinking patterns are the type that could be attributed to a person with vast psychology knowledge, or a person who’s a bit of a sociopath. Jessica reveals her deepest secrets and feelings to Dr. Shields, who more often than not finds ways to use them against her. This story is full of lies, obsession, manipulation, one-night-stands, and deception revealed through well-developed characters, which makes for a very thrilling read. With so much psychological suspense, I read this one in just a few days. If you like psychological thrillers, psychological suspense, and twisty characters, you’ll love this novel! Liked: – The psychology aspect of the plot – Complex characters with hidden motives – Seeing the same events through the lenses of two very different characters – Unforeseen plot elements that keep you guessing as to how the characters will rationalize events Disliked: – Nothing! Special thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to preview this title. |

I love a twisty thriller and was all in when I saw the authors of An Anonymous Girl were Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. Their writing was outstanding this time around, much like The Wife Between Us. Overall though, I found the plot to be a bit too complicated and contrived. Still a good read, but An Anonymous Girl didn’t live up to the high expectations I had. |

I was hooked from the very beginning. I couldn't put it down. It was fast-paced.. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. I will definitely be reading other books from this author. |
I finished An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen last night and I decided to sleep on it before I wrote my review. I liked this book but didn’t love it. I enjoyed the premise of this book. It was a creepy fast paced book, however it fell a little short for me. I wasn’t crazy about the characters as they all seemed shady/suspicious to me...that could have been the authors goal?! I would have liked it more if I could have connected with at least one of the characters. Noah was the only character I cared about. My final rating is 3.5/5 Stars. Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for sending me an advanced readers edition in exchange for my honest review. |

I recently enjoyed The Wife Between Us and after seeing great initial reviews, I was excited to read the latest from Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. An Anonymous Girl is a boilerplate psychological thriller for the Gone Girl crowd. But the twists never come, the plot drags, and the chapters told from alternating points of view feel tedious and gimmicky. In particular, the writing for Dr. Shields feels like nails on a chalkboard. Her chapters are written in the second person and, quite unnecessarily, using passive voice. This results in an antagonist for whom the reader doesn’t really care to understand. I’m disappointed by this book and look forward to taking a break from the litany of sub-par women’s thrillers that have saturated the contemporary literary market. |

What????? People be crazy! All I can say is don't pick up this book unless you have time to finish it. I was reading while getting dressed, making dinner-I literally could not put it down. Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen are the masters of the psychological thriller. And, while this book is very different from their debut novel, it doesn't disappoint! I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion. |

I haven't reviewed this online, because I'd find it hard to do so and make it positive. I read at least the first third of the book before I figured out where it was going and how it was written.. My "author self' was constantly interrupted by every other chapter's using the passive voice--sometimes in a forced manner. One of the authors (Sarah Pekkanen) got a good review of her debut novel by my cyber-friend, Dr. Michael Palmer, so I was anxious to read this one--but it disappointed me. The ending (yes, I soldiered through to the end) was good. Wish the first part was as well. Sorry. |
