The ARC copy I reviewed had symbols in place of words for entire pages and for some of the most pertinent parts. That’s not the author’s fault, and from what I could read, this book is brilliant, groundbreaking, and helpful. As explained by the author, little is known about how to fix bloating, but through her experience she has identified possible causes and several solutions. I am ordering a hardcopy because this is a book I’ll want to own and also because of the formatting issues contained in the ARC.

Thanks to the publisher for the complimentary copy and for publishing this well-needed book. All opinions are my own.

I love that Tamara takes on the basics first in this book, explaining EXACTLY what happens in each part of your digestive tract. Then she breaks down her chapters in relation to that- upper digestive issues, middle, and lower ones. She offers 10 primary problems, their symptoms, typical medications (and why those meds may fail), what you should be eating, and tests that your doctor needs to do, to verify THAT is the actual issue you are having. Plus she gives you a basic quiz to try to narrow down which ones you need to start with!

I was interested to read this book, as my 11 yr old has suffered from reflux literally all of her life and when puberty started, she started with horrendous bloating and while we have been able to resolve most of the issue, she has periodic flareups that leave the doctor scratching her head as well. In this book i found out that her medications may be the issue. Who knew certain probiotics could make some people's stomachs worse? Tamara offers a better choice, which we will be picking up, to see if that could be part of the simple solution for her flareups! This ties in with what we thought was a gluten sensitivity, that may be more of a yeast issue. If it works, this will be a total change for her, and for her diet, ending a cycle of bad choices and pain!

This is a really interesting and informative book, and if you, or anyone you know suffers from gastric distress and bloating, this book may just have the answers they NEED! So get them on the right track for the new year, by giving them this book, this holiday season!

This ARC was unreadable. There was paragraph after paragraph after paragraph that were simply gibberish. It’s as if someone ran the manuscript through some sort of writing application and it ran amok changing letters, punctuation, and spelling. When a critical piece of the manuscript – a questionnaire – was like that, I set the book aside because the rest of the book was predicated on having answered those questions according to the author.

Someone – the copy editor, the proofreader, and especially the author – should have checked this book before sending it out as advanced reading copies. While I don’t expect any ARC to be perfect, a misspelled word here, an errant punctuation mark there, this was a disaster.

Really great advice and interesting information! I have read some advice on bloated belly (due to gluten) before, but never one that addressed so many different issues and I really got some good information from here to try and help out my own personal diet and bloated belly. Thanks so much for this book!

A book I will go back to all the time. This book had the information you can't find in Internet articles or trendy magazines. An in-depth but easy to understand breakdown of what could be happening in your belly to give you that icky feeling after eating or upon waking in the morning. Tamara Duker Freuman includes a simple quiz to take to eliminate what could be causing your belly bloat. I enjoyed this book so much simply because I know so many people who have everything from indigestion to IBS symptoms. This book is the best manual I've ever read with explanations that let the reader become educated and informed on different gut diseases before heading to the doctor's office.

Thank you to Netgalley, Tamara Duker Freuman, and St. Martin's Press for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Excellent book. Easy to read and extremely informative. Tamara Duker Freuman has a very engaging writing style that draws the reader's attention and makes rather challenging concepts accessible and easy to comprehend. Overall, this is an excellent book that brings new understanding to a complicated subject.

I downloaded this twice and still could not read it.

I'm sure there is some good information in here but the majority of what I had was either in another language or some code that did not make sense.

Is your belly bloated, do you have digestive upset, do you suffer from gas or have an irritable bowel? If so, this is the book for you. Lots of tips on a diet with recipes included. An explanation of terms so you are able to converse with health professionals in a more helpful way. A must-have guide for anyone with stomach problems. I read an arc copy via Net Galley and voluntarily chose to write a review.

I was intrigued by the concept of this and was excited to read it as I have digestive issues that cause me to suffer from bloating. However, I wasn't able to get very far in this as a lot of the sections were complete gibberish in places of important information. It's hard to get a feel for the book when you're not able to read any specific material that can help you.

As other reviews have noted, much of the pre publish downloaded version is gibberish. It would have been nice to read it fully. As It stands, the readable portions are interesting and a good resource for persons with belly issues, healthcare professionals, and in particlar, dietitians. As noted by the author, it is always best to seek professional assistance. The information may be useful for person with belly issues to start a good dialogue with their healthcare professional.
I read this book as a complimentary copy from the publisher via Net Galley and the opinions expressed are my own.

This book has given me so many answers and made me realize how much my eating habits affteced my stomac.

It begins with an overview of how the digestive system works, complete with illustrations and provides you with a quiz to narrow down your own stomach issues, which then refers you to the chapter concerning this issue. Some of the issues the book describes are: classic indigestion, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and celiac disease.
It then provides you with two diets, recipes included! The book is a must for anyone who deals with stomach issues.

Thank you to the author and publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

All things "belly," I guess you could say. I applaud the author for the amount of well-researched information she provided. The gut is often called The Second Brain, and Freuman adds to the growing understanding that it's more complex and fascinating than we laypeople might ever have imagined. There's a short quiz the reader can take to help set them on the right diagnostic path, then recommendations are provided in an attempt to help alleviate symptoms.

Contrary to the impression the cover may give, this is not a recipe book for persnickety bellies. If you enjoy the science behind our bodily functions, you'll no doubt enjoy the read.

This is a superb and thorough resource for people suffering from belly bloat. The author carefully separates out the various symptoms of a myriad of causes of belly-bloat and gives carefully considered advice in terms of cause and diet. She separates out the most common reasons of belly bloat and gives a symptom description, a list of trigger foods or/and lifestyle and what to do next. The author doesn't overstep her bounds and doesn't over-promise. She emphasizes the need to consult a physician and also what kind of information a patient should keep track of to share with a physician. I know a number of people who've suffered belly bloat for years. This book is a great tool and I'll be recommending it to my friends.

I am not done reading this book but it has been quite valuable thus far on educating me on the many digestive issues that people experience. I was so excited to get my hands on this because my husband has Celiac Disease, major issues with bloating, and other digestive problems. I also have a Sister who deals with digestive issues as well as diverticulitis, bloating and belching, etc and think this book would be helpful to her also. I will likely order a copy to keep on hand and would highly recommend the read to anyone who has or loves someone who has digestive problems, especially bloating issues. In general this book is for anyone, we have all on occasion experienced the uncomfortable bloat and learning what the underlying causes are can help us navigate our way to better health if we understand how our bodies interact with certain foods. I am excited to finish the book!

Excellent self-help book for those with dodgy tummy's and what you can do to minimise the effects of bloating.

Thank you to Netgalley, author and publisher for an advanced copy.

This book is a really well researched and well written run-down of the various causes of bloating and how to remedy it. This is a super-common problem, especially among those of us of a certain age going through peri-menopause or menopause, when the body starts going through some big changes. The first thing folks think of is "oh gosh maybe I have Celiac" and even though the symptoms and triggers don't quite fit, no one is really talking about the other 8 or 9 possible causes so we haven't had a great source of info for what else could be ailing us. This book provides that info, with intelligence and humor.
I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
