Another great book in verse from Kwame Alexander and Mary Rand Hess., especially if you enjoyed Solo. This one focuses on Noah and his friends Swing (Walt) snd Sam. This book reads quickly and definitely holds your attention. Also, the few pages with artwork really added to the story. I enjoyed all of the baseball and jazz references throughout. And found myself googling the songs that the boys talked about. I received an electronic ARC of this book as part of the Swing Launch Team. |

Great story line? Check. Real issues? Check. Great life lessons? Check, check, check. Swing by Kwame Alexander and Mary Hess has intricate characters, examines real social issues, and provides opportunities for self reflection. I was so enthralled with the characters and the farther I got in the book, the more I wanted to keep reading. It took me on an emotional roller coaster, but it was such a great ride! |
Kwame Alexander and Mary Rand Hess have another hit on their hands. Noah and Walt are high school juniors who want to fit in. Walt has decided he is gong to make the varsity baseball team their senior year and works hard to make it happen. Noah is carrying a torch for his long-time best friend Samantha, who happens to date baseball star Cruz. Over a four-week period in their lives, we learn so much about Noah, Walt, Sam, and Cruz. This novel in verse is perfect in every way. I am so thankful that the authors chose me to be part of their street team. I can’t wait to buy published copies for my students. |

Another amazing book by an amazing team of authors! Of course, I adore anything written by Kwame Alexander. They language of this book is beyond beautiful. The relationships between the characters pulled me into the plot, and I felt like I laughed and cried along with them. They way the arts were brought in excites me as an educator. Sports, arts, music, friendship, love, angst... so many ways to reach readers. |
I didn't get far into this book before I realized it just wasn't for me. It's getting stellar ratings, which is fantastic. I'm sure it's email, I've only heard amazing things abit Kwame Alexander. But I judged a book by its cover without reading the blurb and assumed it was YA, I didn't know it was listed as poetry and written in verse and that's just not my thing. So I won't be reviewing. My mistake!! |
