Sarah Burrowes is an aspiring journalist searching for MORE. More money (to pay her giant mortgage she’s left to pay solo after her partner splits). She wants more in her career. Her current position at a gossip magazine is leaving her less than satisfied in the goals department. Finally, more than the heartbreak her last relationship left her with.

One opportunity could check all those boxes if executed properly. She’s assigned a story in Europe that could make or break her career. There are just a few potential problems, including being paired up with a photographer who’s the BFF of her ex.

Lots of international hijinks ensue. While this was a pretty light story with some cute and funny moments, parts of it were a little lackluster and unbelievable to me (as a former journalist.) It’s a quick read and I’d recommend it to anyone who likes a good rom-com.

"Hot Pursuit" starts out like your usual contemporary romance with a down-on-her-luck heroine who has just met with multiple disappointments. Readers follow her from Melbourne, Australia to Barcelona and across Europe after she lands an investigative story job, where she's joined by a playboy photographer ex. The main characters, Sarah & Nick, were likeable, and the pacing was great. The plot turned a little dark with a drug ring and murder thrown in, but overall a fun read.

This was a great read--full of humor, adventured, and a spirited main character that had me rooting for her through the entire novel.

This was a DNF for me. I remember being super excited to read it because it was being compared to The Hating Game (one of my fave books of all time), but when I started I couldn't get into it, and was super let down that it felt nothing like The Hating Game to me.

Wannabe journalist, Sarah and playboy photographer, Nick team up in this fact paced thriller. Sarah, who has long yearned to be a journalist, talks her way into an assignment to catch a killer. Nick, with whom she had a one night stand, is assigned to accompany. What ensues is a jaunt through Europe as she attempts to break the story that will lead to her first lead story. This story had humor, mystery, a bumbling MC and a side of romance. I really enjoyed the exchanges between the two leads. I liked that Sarah took chances but Nick was there to back her up. This is a nice set up to a follow up book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book. I definitely recommend this book.

Almost immediately, I did not like this book. It started off with some very anti-feminist language and it continued throughout the entire book. I am not the audience for this book, and I wish there were more romance books that catered to the audience of a young feminist.

I expected a little more from this book, and while the interactions and banter between the main couple was okay at some points, this book is nothing special. Easily forgettable.

Thank you for the opportunity to read and review Hot Pursuit. Unfortunately, I was unable to finish this book and won't be rating or reviewing at this time. Should I decide to give it another chance down the road, I will rate and review on my blog, Goodreads and retailers at that time.

Where to start...

Sarah Burrowes is down on her luck - life decisions that led to bad romantic entanglements and a mortgage that she can't afford on her own. If you didn't know it, men can sometimes be very unreliable. She's got a mom who wants to be involved in her life, maybe a little too much but as far as moms in books go, she really just loves her kid. Also, Sarah's got a new job that she doesn't really love - it's meant to be a stepping stone to what she wants to do but things just aren't going her way.

Then she meets a musician! She has no idea that Chris Ford is in this really big band that according to the local newspapers actually really is bad at making music. With the abandonment of her ex, she makes the decision to sleep with the above-mentioned musician but turns right around and changes her mind because she's suddenly aware it's a bad decision. She really does that a lot throughout the book - very wishy-washy and quick to attack with her words instead of communicating. That bothered me a lot or had me rolling my eyes because it was the same thing over and over.

I actually really enjoyed Nick and their banter was good when it was good. When they weren't being ridiculous and constantly misunderstanding each other. That is one trope I'm really getting tired of reading about - it's not that difficult to communicate, people. The story was good in so far that I did want to see where it was going to go even though I knew about halfway through most of the decisions Sarah was going to make. I'm really glad the cover changed from the ARC version of people on the cover to the cutesy one that's on goodreads.

Hot Pursuit was a great read by Rebecca Freeborn. Sarah was a beauty therapist who wants to journo for a gossip magazine. The love of her life left her with a mortgage that she must deal with on her own. She obtained the assignment of a lifetime in Europe with a hot photographer, who is also her ex's best friend. I really enjoyed Sarah and Nick's story and can't wait to read more by the author.

This was a good read, with an simple premise of a girl trying to earn her chops as a journalist. How she goes about it, and the trouble she gets into along the way make the fun part of the story. Can a down on her luck girl catch a break after the love of life mysteriously walks out on her and sticks her with a mortgage she cannot afford, manage to get her career on the right track? While she works her way there, she has to contend with a former one-night stand, who also happens to be the ex's bestie. Those two manage to get themselves into all kinds of trouble, meet some very interesting people along the way, and try to fight whatever residual lust that once had for one another. The plot also has some twists and turns that had me guessing (in a good way).

I don’t feel too bad about being so late reviewing this “read now” title since it was offered after the release date. I feel even less guilty having wasted 4 1/2 hours of my Sunday reading it. I want those hours of my life back. Nothing about this worked for me. I found the characters to be flat and utterly ridiculous. Sarah was so naive and, quite frankly, stupid, that I spent most of my time rolling my eyes at her antics. I found the plot predictable and dull. There was no real tension, or at least, by the time anything that might have been suspenseful happened, I no longer cared at all about what happened to the characters.

Cute cover. I was expecting something else than I read but it wasn’t bad. Just not memorable. Sorry but I really tried. But could be me since I’ve been picky like super picky lately.

This story did not work for me. I was not able to identify with the characters and no matter how great the intrigue if I can't see myself or at least understand motivations, I am out.

Great intrigue, the book really kept you invested. I personally always was wondering what the characters where going to do next. I also enjoy the romance and would read this book again

Yeah this was a DNF for me. I don’t like to give up on a book normally, but there was just nothing in this one that hooked me or really worked for me.

3.5 stars. A good debut book. There’s a bit of everything in this story, an air of mystery, a bit of romance, and nice banter.

Touted as a thrilling European adventure, “Hot Pursuit” is a romantic tale with a bit of mystery added. A bumbling would-be journalist and a photographer teamed up to follow around a Rockstar who is keeping a secret.

Towing the line between a serious investigative reporter or a paparazzi, protagonists Nick and Sarah are thrown into situations that are sometimes funny and sometimes scary. Nevertheless, the chemistry between them held true so you can expect some sexy scenes.

Hot Pursuit is Rated T for Teens.

I received this one from NetGalley and the publisher in return for an honest review.

In her debut novel Rebecca Freeborn makes chemistry, a tale of exploration and page turning awesomeness. After reading this one I want to read everything she has ever written or will write! In this story though we meet Sarah who is a journalist that writes beauty articles for a women's magazine. She was dumped by her ex in an abrupt ghosting. Which left her with a mortgage she can't afford and in need of help to stay afloat. In an act of desperation she asks her boss for an assignment that she is unqualified for. But, nonetheless, she is then sent to Europe on an assignment to follow a musician who is on the run after being accused of murder. She is not sent alone though...she is sent with her ex, a photographer.

A girl out to prove that she can overcome obstacles and fight her own battles - even when her ex is reminding her of why she's in this position, makes for a great tale. The chemistry between Nick, the musician on the run, and Sarah is fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed this one!
