The premise of the book is great and the author really delivers. Great read. Highly recommended. .

Interesting insights but lost in bad writing. The author is surely a master in the rhetorics art, but he needs better skills at presenting in the written form. A pity, because the book is interesting.

Bring Home the Bacom provides a lot of information but unfortunately, it doesn't stick after the book is closed. Nothing really new.

I dont know how to rate this book... and I think I am the problem.
For some reasons I couldn't connect with the voice of the author. It should have been right up my alley as it s an instructional book with lots of tips and practical cases but meh ....

So I I don't know .... 3 stats to be fair?

Bring Home the Bacon by Larry Tracy is an instructional book. Mr. Tracy outlines a system he uses to plan and give presentations. His instructions are detailed and he gives useful advice.
His plan will help you persuade your audience and give strong presentations.

Bring Home the Bacom provides a lot of information but unfortunately, it doesn't stick after the book is closed.
Larry Tracy has worked for both the military and the White House so he knows a thing or two about persuading people. He certainly has a lot of knowledge on the subject and writes with military porecissi0on. But that becomes an issue for retaining the information presented.
I only remember two points. The first is that in personal, oral speaking is still important in this digital age. I agree with him whole heatedly and truly believe his knowledge is important in the digital age.
The second point is that you don't write the way you talk. This is absolutely true But Tracy doesn't seem to understand that genres are written very differently. Everything he says not to do in an oral presentati9on, he puts into his writing. AS this is a self help bo9k, this doesn't help. People mimic what they read, that is why tone is so important in self-help. Instead of giving us an example to go by, huis treaty om persuasion is bogged down and hard to understand for the average reader. In this manner he looses the reader and his precious knowledge goes to waste.
Tracy writes that this is Book 1 or two. I will not be reading book 2.
I received an ARC through NetGalley; all opinions are my own.

What do you fear most? Many people would answer, “speaking in public.” But, it’s possible to improve your speaking skills. Author Larry Tracy, a retired Army Colonel and now a top speech coach has written a concise, yet thorough guide to effective public speaking.

He begins by explaining that most of us are much more familiar with writing, than speaking. So, we must learn to be good speakers, by preparing, planning, practicing, and presenting. We then must learn how to speak with credibility, clarity and conviction. Then, we must aim to be eloquent. Speaking today is actually done using a conversation style. Some important takeaways: research your audience, begin your speech with your ending, practice before a group, and be prepared for the Q and A session.

This is a good overview of public speaking. More examples would have helped, but I can recommend this book as a useful tool to have. Thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for a review copy.

This book should be added to all college speech classes if it's not already on the list! I would have loved to have had this advice years ago. Great info for anyone who has to perform in front of one, many or a camera!
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed are my own.

I was really happy to grab a copy of this book because I felt like any new ideas related to public speaking and presentation would be great to have in my arsenal. The first thing that grabbed me was the cover of the book. It's whimsical and light-hearted and well, it refers to bacon. And I love bacon..both kinds! Unfortunately, as I started to read this book I found that it went on and on and was very wordy. The author really could have summed up many of his topics with some simple bullet points. I enjoyed the examples and the idea of the "Murder Board" but there really was not too many new ideas for me to implement that I had not heard of before. This, of course, is not the first book that I've read about giving presentations so I wasn't surprised that I had heard of several of the steps in Tracy's system in different ways (e.g. index cards, practicing in front of others, etc.). A good read but could have been greatly condensed.

Thank you to Netgalley, Larry Tracy, and Books Go Social for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Net Galley and Books Gone Social for an e-ARC of this title. Ironically I was able to read it just before I had to be in public, not giving speeches, but speaking. The book was very helpful, and I know I'll go back through and read it again to make sure I got as much as a could for it. I'd recommend this book.

Author Larry Tracy delivers what he promises in his book, Bring Home the Bacon. Do you excel at delivering persuasive presentations? Are you easily able to get buy-in from from any audience you are presenting to? Are you comfortable with question and answer sessions? If you answered "no" or even "sometimes" to either of these questions, then this book is for you! Larry is a seasoned communication coach. who shares insight into how to become not just a better presenter, but a stellar speaker. The keystone of this book is the SP3P model of presenting. This, combined with the 3Cs of public speaking and the 3-1-2 system outlined in the book is what you need to go from good to great.

BRING HOME THE BACON by Larry Tracy teaches you to deliver highly successful presentations in the same fashion he used while Senior Intelligence Briefer to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Cold War. His platform chops are so sharp that President Ronald Reagan once called him “an extraordinarily effective speaker.”

In BRING HOME THE BACON, Tracy — one of the top speech coaches in the US — coaches you to:

 - Use “fear of public speaking” to generate enthusiasm
 - Draft your presentation backwards to develop coherence and focus
 - Gain from mistakes with a practice method similar to a “flight simulator”
 - Acquire “intelligence” on the problems of audience members so you can solve them
 - Use non-verbals — body language and voice — to reinforce your message
 - Employ “Shortcuts to Eloquence” to make you appear to be an experienced speaker
 - Answer questions in such a way increases your credibility
 - Avoid “Death by PowerPoint” while using the program to enhance your presentation

Highly recommended for anyone who wants to speak and present more effectively, which in my estimation could be all of us! 5/5
