I would like to compliment the illustrator of this book. They are beautifully illustrated and calming to look at. In the days of rudeness and children with no manners, it is good to see a positive book about compliments. Dog and Fox are having a good evening looking at stars. Dog tells Fox that if you compliment the star it will grow bigger. The story goes from there with the star growing bigger. I like that some of the important words are in different script. This is a warm and fuzzy book for everyone (i am a Grandma and loved it). Would make a great bedtime story. I recommend it for 3-5 yr. olds. Beginning readers could read it but would need help with some words.
A little hard to read due to formatting on Kindle. We still really enjoyed the story and would pick up as a fiscal book.
I requested this beautifully illustrated book without thinking of how this picture book would read on my small paper white kindle. Unfortunately I cannot read the small words and it is not adjustable. But I will say the pictures are not a disappointment! I will have to look for this book because the illustrations are adorable and I want to read it even more now!
Thank you Netgalley for this copy.
The Brightest Star is just a lovely book, it’s so important for kids to treat each other kindly and understand the importance of words and how they make you feel. The illustrations compliment the story beautifully. A great book with a fantastic message.
This pages displayed a little out of order on my kindle but I was able to figure it out. The illustrations were very cute and the message was good in essence about compliments and making people's hearts bigger with kindness. It is a good picture book for preschool age. The message might need some additional interpretation or pointing out by adults reading the book for a child to fully understand the point.
Thank you NetGalley for the digital ARC copy of this book.
This was a short, charming, read about the power of compliments and nice thoughts complete with gorgeous illustrations.
This is exactly the type of book I'd have read with the little dude when he was little (under 5) but would now be way too simple and short to engage him now (at 7).
I was attracted by the visual part of the book far much more than the actual story. I think the translation needs some work for the theme to be more self-evident.
The Brightest Star is a lovely picture book about curiosity and the power of kindness. The illustrations are well done and the story is simple but effective.
The illustrations are beautiful but I agree with the reviewer who questioned whether or not children will grasp the ultimate lesson of the book. Plus early on, one character calls the other "silly." Not exactly what I want a child taking away from the story.
I sent in feedback to the publisher about being unable to read and fairly review this book. Giving it 3 stars for the illustrations though.
“The Brightest Star” by Danielle Schothorst is such a sweet book with darling illustrations about the importance of giving compliments and sharing positive thoughts. Fox and Dog talk about the stars and Dog notices how much more brightly they shine when speaking of something positive. A heartwarming story for young readers ages 5 and up emphasizing kindness toward others and positive thinking. 5/5

This book is special. It is teaching the lost art of giving a compliment. It draws the parallel between your heart growing when someone compliments you to stars getting brighter when you say nice things about them. This book could be used as a good teaching aide in the classroom, especially with young children. The illustrations of the animals are adorable as well. They add a lot to the story. Please share this book with the children in your life.
I enjoyed reading this children's book. I thought that the conversation between Dog and Fox about giving compliments and thinking how good thoughts would make anyone feel good. This book would be a great asset in any classroom or library.
I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. These are my thoughts.
