Dragon shifters that happen to be firefighters, jeez this book knows what I like!

This is a scorcher of a start to a new series.

Finn is a dragon shifter, his the top guy in his group of dragons. The group fight fires that are started by dragons.

Delaney is happy in her new start, when a minor disaster happens and another fire happens. This fire isn't good but it does bring her face to face with Finn and his group of firefighters.

I liked the sexual tension between Finn and Delaney. The relationship developed at a good pace and I grew to care about the pair of them and wanted them to have a happy ever after.

Danger, of course we have danger, there is the issue with mating the wrong partner - that doesn't end well, then there are there are the rogues that don't want to follow rules and the top brass dragons that rule over all the other dragons.

A must read for Dragon Shifter fans.

This is my first read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be looking out for more books in this series.

4.5 stars

This was an excellent start to what will hopefully be a series with plenty of books! Firefighters, dragons, tough chicks, and some smutty goodness round out this fun and engaging read.

Finn is the leader of a group of elite dragon shifters, stationed and tasked with monitoring for rogue dragon fire and helping hide their race from humans. He has had a tough life, having thought he found his mate only to result in her death. Sure, he could blame the system for identifying mates (which is archaic and not always right) but instead he blames himself, swearing off women and especially any possible mates. Enter Delaney – a tough woman who has been on the run from a stalker ex who definitely has some more supernatural elements up his sleeve. She is also sort-of running from the inexplicable fires that seem to follow her during black-outs. After Finn’s people come in to fight a fire that has erupted near her, she finds herself drawn into their strangely comforting world of the unbelievable.

Obviously they immediately pin her as a possible dragon mate but things just don’t seem to add up. Either way, Finn and Delaney are drawn to one another. While there is some reluctance to give in, they ultimately make a really great team. All of the rest of the guys in the “crew” deserve a shout out, too, because I cannot wait until they all get their turn with mates. The writing was great and the world building had me begging for even more time there. This was a surprising and wonderful book that restored my faith in paranormal romance.

This was really good. I had a hard time making myself stop when I needed to. There's not much new going on here for a dragon series, but it was done in a great way. I did think it was kind of neat how these guys were kind of firefighters as a cover for what they really do. I never got frustrated or annoyed with any of the characters either, so that's always a plus. I really liked all of the characters too. There's some action, some humor, some mystery, and some really good heat. And of course, some really awesome dragons.

Finn and Delaney made a good couple. They just sort of meshed well together. And for once the immediate attraction they felt for each other because they are destined mates didn't bother me. I think that might be because Finn tried to fight it, and Delaney wasn't looking for a forever.

Finn comes with some emotional baggage that makes him a stern and controlled male. When a dragon mate is found, the male (dragon) breathes his fire into the mate (human) which would change her into a dragon. Or kill her if she was, in fact, not his destined mate. This tragedy happened to Finn and he continues to live with the pain of this, while vowing to never again try to mate a female. It hasn't been an issue until he meets Delaney. As soon as he sees her, he feels this overwhelming urge to protect and keep her. A feeling he doesn't understand and can't entertain. Delaney has lost everything in her life. A car accident took her parents and her younger brother and now everywhere she goes fires break out around her. Worse, she has a stalker that is determined to have her. She has fled her home to live and work at a vineyard in California. Unfortunately, her fire problem followed her there when she wakes up in the middle of the building while it's on fire with no idea how she got there. When Finn and his team show up to help contain it, Delaney is immediately taken with him and finds herself wanting to open up to him about her past.

The more she shares, the more Finn is certain that her stalker is a rogue dragon and he promises to protect her and catch him. One of the first things he does is move her in with him and the boys. I loved the group dynamic this team of shifters has. I especially liked Rivin and Keighan and so can't wait for them to get a book. Things become harder for Finn with Delaney that much closer and he just can't stop his reactions to her. But that's not the worst of it. The rogue after her is bold but smart. And it was only a matter of time before Delaney found out what him and the rest were. To her credit, after trying to run away and being stopped, she took it all quite well. Then comes the part of her maybe being a dragon mate but not showing all the signs. When the rogue kidnaps Delaney not once, but twice, Finn is forced to choose between what he really wants and what he is supposed to do. Let's just say he makes the right choice for him and it all works out in the end.

With the baddie supposedly gone now, I have no idea who the baddie at the end of the epilogue is. But I'm sure I know which dragon will be next. And I really look forward to it.

For some reason, I seem to be reading lots of books with firefighters in them at the moment. I have to admit that I didn't even realise that this one was. To be honest, that isn't really what the characters in this book are though, they are actually dragon shifters and they use firefighting as both a disguise and because they are able to control fires in the way that people can't.
If you had asked me a couple of years ago if dragon shifter books were my thing, I'd probably have laughed. This is the third dragon shifter series that I've started and really enjoyed, so clearly, I knew nothing.
I loved the characters in this book. Delaney and Finn seem to make a really good couple and they work well together. I loved the humour that came through in their relationship. It seemed very natural and made them 'work' The sparks really fly between them and it's pretty obvious from almost the beginning that they are supposed to be together, even if it's something that they don't immediately see.
This is the first in the series and sometimes first books suffer as they are too busy building the world and introducing characters. With The Boss though, although there was much to introduce, it didn't allow the story to get lost.
I really enjoyed this fun, sexy read and I can't wait for the next in the series. There's lots of potential for some interesting stories with some of the other dragon shifters that we've met in this book. Bring them on!

the first book in the fire's edge series, the boss finds crew chief finn conleth trying to figure out why fires have been chasing delaney hamilton. across the country. especially since they seem to be dragon-made and not natural fires.

finn's crew are the huracán enforcers, a coalition of specialist dragons who are in charge of keeping humans safe from dragon-created fires and hunting down rogue dragons and ensuring that justice is served if they've caused harm.

finn finds himself incredibly attracted to delaney but he refuses to act on this. he's been haunted by the death of the woman he'd thought he was mated to and can't bear to put another woman at risk. delaney doesn't even bear the markers of a potential dragon mate so his unnatural possessiveness and desire for her makes no sense.

soon they determine that delaney is being stalked by a dragon convinced she is his mate. but it makes no sense, identifying dragon mates has been a long-established process and it seems impossible for delaney to be one, and yet the only reason to explain why all of this is happening to her.

finn needs to figure out if he can let go of his past, of his fears and find a way to make things work with delaney. given how possessive he feels and how much he wants her, there is no other option.

this is an enjoyable start to a dragon shifter series, i look forward to future installments with the huracán enforcers.

What can I say? I'm a sucker for shapeshifter books. So, when I saw The Boss I had to request it. And the story just sucked me in directly. We meet Delaney, who wakes up in the middle of a fire. Again. She is rescued by some serious hot firefighters. The boss of them is Finn, with mesmerizing blue eyes and a cold attitude.
However, Delaney can't help but feel safe with those hot men. So, she confides in them, this is not the first time she is finding herself in the middle of a fire. Afraid they will think she is crazy, she is astonished to hear that they think she is not crazy at all: she is targeted by a shapeshifting dragon who will do everything to try to find and catch Delaney. But why?
A dark cat and mouse game starts and Finn, as the Boss, is determined to save her from her stalker. But what is that strange attraction between Finn and Delaney? Finn really doesn't understand, but it sets him on edge. Because he vowed never to love another woman again, since losing his potential mate so many years ago. With lies and betrayal from even inside Finn's clan, how can he keep Delaney safe? Find out for yourself in this wonderful story. Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

There was so much about this book that I liked, it was hard to pinpoint what part I enjoyed the most. From the immediate suspense in the beginning to the smoldering heat between the two main characters, there was a lot going on that packed a punch. I have read many books featuring dragon shifters, and I think this will be my favorite series among them. I loved the interaction they had with regular humans, despite the dangers of putting themselves in harm's way, and while they were leery of letting anyone know what they are, they also recognized that a human's safety was sometimes more important than their secret. Their strength in character as a group was evident early on.

Finn Conleth has lived for centuries with the knowledge that he can never have a mate of his own. After his dragon's fire consumes his first mate during a mating ritual, he vows that he would not risk the same thing happening again. But when mysterious fires begin appearing in his territory, with Delaney Hamilton at the center of it, he realizes that it might be harder than ever to keep history from repeating itself. Delaney has been followed by fire for months now, not knowing if she is starting them and worried that it may be the work of a stalker. Meeting Finn turns her world upside down, and things only become stranger when he insists on protecting her. Now her life depends on trusting him - but is he really who he says he is, or is there more going on?

Both Finn and Delaney were fantastic characters! I loved the depth we got from them almost immediately, learning their backstories and seeing their POVs alternating throughout the book. I felt very in tune with what their fears, desires, goals, etc. were, and it made for a rich read. Finn couldn't help being attracted to Delaney, and she felt the same way, even though both felt they had excellent reasons to stay away from each other. I loved the slow burn of their romance, and the time it took between meeting and getting into bed together was perfect. It didn't feel too rushed, and it also made the chemistry between them all the hotter. Definitely an excellent example of a slow burn romance done right.

This was the first book I have read by Abigail Owen, and I am super eager to read more! I'm ecstatic that this is the first in a series, since that means I get more dragon shifters in my future.

Finn Conleth, enforcer dragon shifter leader, had his chance at finding his mate, but it ended in heartbreak and death. They chose wrong and he will never risk that mistake again.

Delaney Hamilton is on the run from her own flaming nightmares, but it seems even fleeing across the country isn’t far enough. When another mysterious fire erupts, Finn’s team is called in and things will begin to get a lot hotter as Delaney’s life is threatened by a dragon willing to risk her life to find his mate.

Meanwhile, Finn feels the heat of desire for the beautiful Delaney, but the only way to keep her safe is to ignore the fire between them until a larger threat looms on the horizon.

Hot, Very Hot passions ignite, as this scared, strong and feisty woman, who may or may not be a dragon shifter and this hard-nosed alpha dragon become engulfed in an inferno of lust…or is it the love Finn refuses to acknowledge?

THE BOSS by Abigail Owen has it all, heat, suspense, heat, an amazing team of dragon shifters, heat, humor, heat…and a tremendously talented author to pull it all together into an amazing escape from our reality and into hers!

So, thanks to Abigail Owen, I’ve found that dragon-shifter firefighters are as hot and alpha-sexy as or maybe even hotter and alpha-sexier than men-in-kilts….just saying…

Wow what an introduction to a story, talk about instant book feels and I didn't even know the characters at this point. Instantly I knew this was going to be a good one.
And I was right :)
I have a preference for the use of up-to-date, relevant language in the books I read and thankfully Abigail's writing style meets this "must have" aspect for me.
Very intriguing characters. I loved the dynamics between the lead pair and the secondary characters in the story. Although the males are a working unit, the close relationships between them is clear to see and the acceptance and developing friendships between new-to-the-group, lead female, Delaney and the guys was interesting and amusing. I've come to care about these guys, so a connection has been clearly established for me and I want to know more about them all. I want them to find their own mates and have their hea's. My fingers are crossed that this is the authors intension for this series.
Finn Conleth is the boss of a group of dragon shifters, technically enforcers, but working incognito from human discovery as a hot shot crew of fire fighters (fire fighting, dragon shifters....oh hell yes!)
Finn certainly has the intense, brooding, alpha male vibe going on, good grief that male is seriously hot,but boy does it take him long enough to face the truth.
The wanting one minute, then pulling away aspect went on slightly longer than I was happy with and I found myself beginning to get more irritated with Finn each time he did this. Completely understood his fear and reluctance after earlier experience but for me it happened slightly too often.
Delaney Hamilton is a human female, running from a deranged stalker and a series of fires that follow her everywhere she goes. Her memories provide no explanations, leaving Delaney worried that she's either the cause or that her stalker has found her once again.
I really liked Delaney, she's anxious and guilt ridden yet able to keep picking up the pieces, hide her insecurities and deal with whatever is thrown at her, and that's alot in this story.
It was a refreshing change not to have the over used in my opinion, standard female freak out and flee approach with the discovery of the paranormal world she's found herself in. Yes she has moments of shock but she rebounds quickly each and every time. Delaney is no shrinking violet thank goodness, she's fully capable of standing up for herself, even with strong alpha males.
I'm unsure how I feel about the different take on the whole mating aspect for shifters. I've never read this approach before and I've become set in my ways regarding acceptable shifter practices lol.
The mates of male dragon shifters are human females, who until Delaney have a recognisable mark on their necks that easily identifies them as precious, potential mates. Not sure why Delaney never had this mark, it wasn't explained in this installment.
This is where it gets odd to me. The females who can be mates are reported and taken to the Mating Council, who then select several males who might be their mate. What? The female then spends time with each male to find her mate. But it doesn't end there, oh no, there's still a chance that the wrong choice is made and this has deadly consequences.
In order to claim and mate a female, the male shifter must pass his dragon fire into the female. If they are in fact destined mates, it's all good, but if they aren't....the female burns to death. Yep, brutal and with many of the males going through this horrific experience, it's no wonder they're reluctant and fear to try again.
I like having a bad guy to root against and we got that in the form of Graff, Delaney's stalker, and dragon shifter himself. Convinced Delaney belongs with him, he's determined to mate her wither she wants to or not. Yep, he's completely insane and dangerous.
I really enjoyed this story, it met most of my must have points for a good paranormal romance. Intriguing characters, plenty of drama and action, new-to-me concepts, twists and turns and the all important hotness a good pnr read should have in my opinion. I'd definitely recommend this series to fans of paranormal fiction/romance and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

WOW 😮 what a book couldn’t put down addictive
Dragons can be found in the book many and heroes and bad guys. The team fight fires in human and dragon form. There is love and sadness but they overcome them.

This had an interesting storyline and concept. Im not gonna lie i had to double check to make sure i had the first one in the series because the backstory it mates and the councils and the kings and clans. It feels very limited and i do like to have some backstory. All in all it was a good book and Finn and his team are a great bunch of characters. the double trouble twins are great for relief and then we have Delaney.

She is a pretty solid heroine. For all that is going down she has her crap together and it makes her a very likeable character.

The Boss by Abigail Owen is the first book in her Fire's Edge series. I haven't read any of her other books but this one book has me anxious waiting for the other dragons to get their own stories or mates. You'll be in love because where else can you find Dragon's, Firefighters and a bad guy or should I mean Dragon? This one book has all of them so I give it all 5 stars gladly.

Finn Conleth is not only in charge of his enforcers dragon shifters but they also can help the humans when the fire is spotted during their drills and we all know how quickly they can grow and become a huge forest fire. But when he rescues Delaney Hamilton from a barn/winery little does he know that she'll become very special to him but also help him find a rogue dragon they've been searching for. He lost a mate once when he tried to turn her and its made him decide not to try again.

Delaney Hamilton has been running from a stalker Graff who has followed her all over the country because he can't understand that she doesn't want to see him any longer. However, every time she leaves it's because a fire has occurred and she thinks that she's responsible. But when a fire starts at Apple Hill Winery she tries to put it out and save her friend's wine. But when she meets Finn it's his ice blue eyes that will have her wondering if he can help her explain not only the fires but also her attraction to him. Finn will try hard to deny the attraction until his supervisor Deep points out that because mates are so few, that perhaps Delaney is the one.

It will take all of Finn's crew to find and stop Graff especially when Delaney is taken hostage but there are more sinister dragons out there that are determined to find their mates even if she isn't aware she's compatible to him

4.5 Stars The Boss is the first book in the Fire's Edge series and my first read by author Abigail Owen. I can’t wait to explore more by this author and recommend her to readers

The Boss is the fabulous first book in Abigail Owen’s brand new paranormal romance series! Dragon shifting fire-fighters?……OMG what a rush! I really enjoyed Ms Owen’s world building and the concept of these fiery shifters working in an industry that not only fit their secret identities perfectly, but allowed them to protect and save too; totally drool-worthy.

Ms Owen’s take on the differences between the male and female shifters was also original and made the whole mating thing that much more intense. My only criticism was the ending was a little abrupt, but I’m definitely excited for book two and watching as these super sexy shifters find their perfect match.

Great start to a new paranormal romance series! "The Boss" is the first book in a new series that follows dragon shifters. We learn bits and pieces here and there about the dragon shifters, which are labeled by clan (color) and ruled by kings. They also have councils that oversee various aspects of their lives. Most dragon shifters are male and the few that are female are sterile. Dragons mate for life through a specific process with human women who are born with the ability to be a dragon mate. When their mate dies, so do they. Dragons, thus, do not mate lightly, and there is a process to go through when finding the mate. If they pick the wrong mate, she will die horribly. Considering that there may only be one mate per person, in picking the wrong mate, they may also prevent someone from receiving their destined mate.

Finn has sworn off women after what happened when he tried to mate- they had mistakenly thought she was his mate. Although he could sleep with human women if so desired, he has not really wanted to, as he just remembers what happened to the women he thought was his mate when he tries. Finn runs a colony of dragons from the different clans in the US where they contain knowledge about dragons, stop dragon fire, and punish the dragons who risk exposing dragon kind. It is after seeing one such fire that he meets Delaney.

Delaney has come to the West Coast to start anew. She is fleeing a stalker (against whom she has a restraining order) and now works at a winery with Sera, a single mother and her good friend. Delaney wakes in their storage/equipment barn amidst a fire. Since a car accident which killed her family, she has had a type of epilepsy (believed) where she blacks out. Delaney is worried that she is starting the fires when she blacks out. Anyway, she saves a stray cat from the barn and then begins to fight the fire, when she is pulled away and to safety by a firefighter who arrived on the scene- who happens to be Finn.

Delaney finds herself strangely pulled to Finn and confesses what has been going on. He offers her his group's protection, against what he learns is a dragon shifter who has been stalking her. As they live closer, they are unable to resist the undeniable pull between them. However, Delaney doesn't bear the mark of a dragon mate, so she cannot know too much about their world. However, as the story develops, there is more at play here than they could have imagined, and the lack of a mark may not be so significant...

Overall, I really loved the romance in this book and the push-pull between Delaney and Finn. Their relationship was very steamy and just what I was looking for! You'll definitely be wanting your own firefighter dragon shifter after reading this! The romantic scenes were so well done and paced perfectly throughout the book (not too much and not too little). The book is written very well and flows quickly- I devoured it in a day.

The dragon shifter element was really interesting, but I wish we had a bit more world development. We put together the pieces here and there slowly throughout the book. All-in-all, I felt like it was enough, but I do want to hear more about it in the future books. We are also left with a bit of a mystery at the end, and I really want to pick up the next book now!

This steamy and engaging paranormal romance was a big hit for me! I highly recommend it. Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own.

Finn is a hot, protective, alpha enforcer. This read was a little slow getting started. It took a while to get momentum. I actually fell asleep a couple of times! Then, it started to pick up.and get juicy. Finn fights the attraction hard!! You really can't blame him after his past. I wonder where the author goes with Sera??? Hmmmm....we will see I guess. I am on to the next read!!

I received this ARC from publisher via Net Galley at my request for an honest review. The opinion written are soley my own. Thank you Net Galley!
