This is a teachable story for kids about jealousy and also learning to appreciate what you do have.

Green Eyed Goose by Lisa Griffin is a cute story about a goose that isn't first at anything. He sits around feeling jealous and sorry for himself. After talking to a little bird about being happy where you're at instead what you are not and working for what you want. The goose's attitude began to change for the better. What a great story about working hard and being grateful for what you have!

Green Eyed Goose will be a great way to explain jealousy and understanding why we should be thankful for the gifts, talents and attributes we each have instead of coveting what others have. Boone, the duck looks at his siblings and friends and wonders why he doesn't have what they have or why he isn't ever first. He soon realizes that he has his own qualities that make him unique and created as he was designed to be.

A lovely book about looking at what you can do, and what you can't do. And that often times the cant goes away with a little practice.

I was given an advanced reader copy of Green Eyed Goose from Netgalley and I am not required to give a positive opinion.

Boone, the duck, looks around and starts to feel jealous of what those around him can do that he can’t. After complaining, like many of us do, the others help him see, that they had periods of doubt too and they helped him to recognize that he had strengths and talents that he should be proud of. This is a good book for a parent or teacher to read to children to introduce and discuss the feelings of envy, jealousy, and being grateful for what who have.

I absolutely loved the fonts, colors and illustrations in this book! It's a cute story about a little goose named Boone who is disappointed with his inability to do the things his siblings and friends can do and with the help of his friends, he eventually begins to see things from a different perspective, realizing he can do things they can't. I appreciate how the moral of the story is focusing on gratitude to combat jealousy. There is also a helpful Parents and Educators guide with tips to interact with and find applications from the story.

"Boone watched his brother Finn begin to fly."
"Why is he always first?" Boone groaned.

"First to hatch.
First to dunk
And now he is first to fly."

The other siblings are so excited for Finn and praise and cheer him on ... all except Boone. He is jealous and thinks it's all terribly unfair. Why can't he be first at something before his brother Finn? Boone is full of fear stepping out of his comfort zone. He has tremendous anxiety when trying something new and he feels like a big failure before he even begins. With the support and love of those around him Boone learns to overcome his fears and starts to believe that "yes he can!" He discovers that new things aren't so scary after all.

The book encourages kids to practice, to try hard, be brave and conquer anxieties that hold them back from trying something new. This book is a wonderful catalyst for discussion and would be a great addition to a classroom and/or in a school library collection.

The illustrations are delightful. They are full of action, expression and fun. The characters are so adorable. The author has added a section at the end of the book, "Tips for Educators and Parents," that will aid adults in assisting children to overcome their fears and anxieties. I highly recommend this book.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Boys Town Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a children's book. Boone is jealous of his siblings. He wants to be first! Interesting take on envy and jealousy. Good graphics and good friends. Teaches you to see others in a different way. Practice!! I rate this a 4.
