I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was an okay book, but it didn't blow me away.

This book is all about what to expect when you go to a restaurant. To know that you may have to wait, that not everyone will eat the same times. It covers a bit of etiquette, but not too much. I like the idea of this book, but I also hate the idea of this book. It's great to have books like this to help teach a lesson. Part of me wants to think that these are really helpful for children that may have difficulties in life like autism, but the other part of me thinks that most of this should be taught by the parent. I guess it comes down to how the book is worded. It doesn’t read like an adventure, but rather a list of dos and do nots. Literal and straightforward. The bubble idea used in the book is also interesting. It help keeps the page clean and clutter to a minimum. But I would like to pose: is the “How to use this book” at the back really necessary?

As adults, it is easy to forget what it is like to experience something for the first time; things that we take for granted may be overwhelming for children. This short picture book/read aloud will help kids to know what to expect when they go out to eat in a restaurant. This preparation may well help your little eater to have a more positive experience when dining out. After hearing this story, children will have a better sense of who is who and what choices they will be making. Ideas are also given for things to do when waits seems long. At the end of the book there are additional suggestions for adults that will help them and the kids they know to enjoy this time together.

Lou Knows What to Do: Restaurant shares different scenarios that could happen at different restaurants while out to eat and how to act properly. Shared in a way that kids will understand and can relate

A good book for young kids. When every experience is new, kids could feel scared and nervous. If they knew what to expect, they will be prepared. And enjoy themselves while learning new things. This book does exactly that, it not only informs them about what happens in a restaurant, also gives them advice on what they should do if things happen. Must read!

This is a wonderful book (and whole series) about correct behaviour and expectations in an unfamiliar social situation. Lou uses his trusty magic bubble wand to find out the correct protocol when he goes out to a restaurant with his family for dinner.

He discovers he has to patiently wait to be seated, for his server to bring him his food that he ordered and to wait quietly for everyone to finish their meal before they exit the restaurant. He learns that using his manners is very important.

"Lou knows that when he leaves the restaurant, it is nice to say, "goodbye!" to the server. He can also say, "thank you and have a nice day!"

And then he asks the question... "DO YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO?"

There are tips at the back of the book for teachers and parents on how to use the information in the book, and a short quiz to review what is learned along the way. This is a kid-friendly book that teaches important life skills. It is a book series designed to help kids master challenging social situations comfortably and competently. The books are perfect for those with a variety of developmental levels and learning styles. The "Lou Knows What do Do" series is an excellent read for students living with an autism spectrum disorder. I highly recommend this book and the whole series.

Lou Knows What to Do: Restaurant is a wonderful social story. I would use this book with my early childhood students and students on the Autism Spectrum. I adore the illustrations. Great tool for parents and teachers. I will recommend this to my Autism Specialist. Thanks Boys Town Press and NetGalley for the ARC of this title.
