This was such a unique read! As a mother of 6 i'm always looking for ways to make holidays special! You wont regret picking this book up and highlighting it a ton! This is one to keep handy and review yearly, and even a good gift to your other mama friends! |
Holidays had become just another family gathering, just another day to me. Because of the chaos that surrounded them I had become numb. This book helps get back to their true meaning and celebration. |
I love the idea of this book. It helped me to think about how we celebrate holidays and what traditions we do. I think this is a great resource to keep around. She recommends reading the chapter a month or two before the holiday so you can make a plan. I love this idea! |
Having this book during the Christmas season was absolutely wonderful and helped me center myself and my family around the true reason for the season. Also this cover is so cute! I am really considering buying the hardcopy to spice up my bookshelf or coffee table. Thank you to NetGalley and B&H Books for a copy of this book for an honest review. |
Are you wanting to make Jesus the center of your holidays? When it is so easy to get stuck in the chaos of the seasons, Becky Kiser gives you a resource guide to bring the focus back to God. It gives you a plan to follow broken down into three parts - Less Chaos, More Jesus \ Holidays \ Common Struggles. It focuses on several holidays and can be read over and over again. |
Sacred Holidays is a resource guide book by author Becky Kiser. The book is divided into three parts. Part one and the introduction are planned to be read first. The second part is to be read 30-60 days before that holiday. And, the third part is planned to be read anytime. Some of the holidays included are New Years', Valentine’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The thesis of the book is to help readers choose the good portion, the better way. Do you want to celebrate the holidays, but prefer them all to be Christ-centered? The author helps you do just that. I believe the author wrote the book to inform the reader how they can make Jesus the center of each holiday. My favorite holiday listed in the book is Lent. It is the one I know the least about. Many Christians I know don’t celebrate Lent. Yet, it is one worth celebrating. I liked this book so much I bought myself a print copy so I could journal in it. So, I highly recommend this book to all women in all stages and ages of life. I do think teen girls would enjoy this book as much as adult women. Kiser urges followers of Jesus to become more intentional and thoughtful in bringing faith to the annual holidays. In an age when secularization has warped the origins of feasts and celebrations in the Church calendared, she offers reflection and practical ways to reclaim our heritage of faith and practice. Each holiday chapter offers scriptures, purpose, and motivation for celebrations, along with ways to integrate the event into studies, family life, and personal devotions. If you're stumped as to how to make holidays meaningful - or if you've been drifting through the years without meditation on the meaning of your faith, this book will bring your practices to life. Easily customizable. Lots of options. What's not to like? Excellent for parents and group leaders. |

I have been celebrating holidays in the way the author describes for the past few years, and I wholeheartedly agree with her approach. I felt like I already had Easter and Christmas thought out, but she gave me some new ideas for birthdays. This book would be excellent for someone who has not reflected on holiday traditions before. |

Ever feel like you are competing against a world of perfect snapshots, especially during the holiday season? Kiser gets it, and gives you freedom to take back those special days. She discusses each major holiday that we may have throughout the year and provides the reader with thoughtful questions to help determine what that holiday personally means. Holiday mission statements and prompts to use when thinking of how to incorporate Jesus into each special day are great ways to emphasize the reason for each season. I took lots of notes and will be referring back to this book! |
This is a book I keep out at all times. I adore that this focuses on various holidays and gives you activities, décor ideas and so much more while keeping the focus on God and His Word. |
Becky Kiser approaches the holiday seasons in a new and completely fresh light, challenging the reader to reevaluate how you celebrate each one. Sacred Holidays deals not only with the what a lot of Christians would consider the "major" holidays, but also the smaller ones, birthdays, etc. Overall, it was a good read and gives one a lot to think on. If you are looking for a book to rethink the way you do holidays in your house or just gain another perspective - this book is for you! I recieved a complimentary copy of this book compliments of the publisher via Netgalley. A positive review was not required and all thoughts/opinions are my own. |
Loved this book! More of a hands-on resource, with space to reflect, plan and personalize the material to the individual reader. Easy read full of practical strategies for living out the holidays (Easter, Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentine's, New Years...) with intentionality-less chaos, more Jesus. Glad I had a free electronic copy to read before Halloween ;) |
Sacred Holidays was such a refreshment to read. At no time did I feel inadequate or insecure about the way I currently celebrate or don’t celebrate holidays. The Author has such a kind way of explaining things that makes you look at them from a new perspective. I enjoyed reading this book immensely, it was so easy to follow and I know I will use it as a reference for years to come. I would suggest this to anyone who celebrates holidays, I realize that is a broad spectrum of people but it will change the way you look at life and I think everyone could use that. There are also chapters about how to deal with things unrelated to holidays, but more like seasons of life. 5/5 stars. |
5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I wanted to read this for Christmas because I get so overwhelmed this time of year and I wanted to read someone else’s perspective on it. I had no idea that it was going to help me throughout the entire year. Yay! This book was so encouraging and practical. It never felt “preachy”. Each chapter had me pause and see a different way to approach my “seasons”. Helpful things that felt doable. All of this made me take a step back and breathing in my walk with the Lord. I found the check list at the end of every chapter super helpful. What I loved: • Lots of practical insight. • Writing a personal mission statement for that holiday. • Praying over Christmas cards. • Preparing for my struggle areas. • Learning more about Lent and Easter and why we celebrate it. • All the helpful ideas about summer activities. • Getting involved in reading and book clubs. ♥️ • Tips on how to make Halloween holy. • The importance of managing money well as Believers. • Looking at grief and knowing when it’s okay to not be okay. • Asking for help. • Learning how to say no when I’m doing to much. This was a NETGALLEY gift and all opinions are my own. |

This is a good book if you want to bring more Jesus into all your holidays! Definitely one to go back to all year long. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book. |
This is the sort of book I need to be able to craft excellent lessons about the Christian holidays in order help young people understand the differences between the commercial and spiritual aspects. It’s clear and well written but certainly more of a reference guide for myself than a book I would provide students. |

I like this book for the encouragement of bringing Jesus into our Holy Days and even to my own birthday!! Being part book and helpful ideas, it is also part journal for notes for future years. Cooking is the hardest part for me for big holidays as it all is on me to do. I'm making sure to keep notes of meals I've done. |
If you struggle with Christmas becoming about THINGS, instead of a meaningful connection to Jesus, this might be the book to help you balance the holidays a bit more thoughtful. It's an inspiring read, but not always something that is easy to implement. Read for the ideas, incorporate what works for you and your family. |
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I have to say this book was not what I thought it was. I guess I should have looked closer at it before requesting. I am not an overly religious person. I would say I am more spiritual. But this did teach me a little about the holidays and enlightened me a little. That is a good thing. |
