Daisy Jones & the Six was one of my favorite books I read in 2019. I fell in love with the oral history-style formatting, and I kept having to remind myself that Daisy Jones & the Six were not, in fact, a real band. Daisy Jones in particular felt like a real woman that I would love to meet. Bonus: The full cast audiobook is also phenomenal.

1970s L.A.- sex, drugs, rock-n-roll. 7 band members look back at their rise to fame and how it all went wrong. You will fall in love with these characters and wish they were a real band. Unanimous staff favorite and my top pick of 2019!

Another book I couldn’t put down. I loved the set up as an interview. I found all the characters really interesting. I liked how stories were told from different band members points of views and memories. Anyone who is a fan of the 70’s music will feel like they are living vicariously through this band.

First and foremost, I can’t believe that I haven’t read a book by Taylor Jenkins Reid until now. I own “Maybe in Another Life,” “ The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” and was approved by Netgalley for an arc of “Daisy Jones & The Six.” I have no excuse.

After hearing all of my favorite Book-tubers rave about her stories over and over, I decided that now is the time. I have only ever heard amazing reviews for all of her books, that is...except for one that people had mixed emotions about. Rumor has it that I’d either love it or hate it, there was no in-between. “Daisy Jones & The Six” simply wasn’t like Reid’s other books. I figured, why not start there? It can only go up.

Daisy Jones-

“Her voice was raspy and cool.”

—Started out as a groupie “I wanted to be around these men, these stars, because I didn’t know how else to be important.”

—Branched out and made her own record. “That’s how it was back then, I was just supposed to be the inspiration for some man’s great idea. Well, fuck that. That’s why I started writing my own stuff.”

—Joined the group. Became the “It girl.” “I do what I want.” “ All of Rock & Roll wanted to BE her.”

The Six-

“What’s your name? I don’t know, but I’ll get the six of us there.” - Karen

- Started out as a Blues Rock Band in the mid-‘60s from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania called The Dunne Brothers.

1- Billy Dunne- Lead Singer- “The Sex Symbol” the one all of the girls came to see.

2. Graham Dunne-Lead Guitar-“Handsome, but rough around the edges.” The sweetheart of the men; had a crush on Karen.

3. Karen Karen- Keyboardist-voiced by Judy Greer on the audio book. I recently read her biography “ I don’t know where you know me from: Confessions of a Co-Star” and LOVED it. Her narrator voice is perfection.

4. Eddie Loving- (replaced Chuck) He often refused to work with Billy, thought he was pompous and over-stepping.

5. Warren-“ The only one who didn’t have his panties in a twist about something.” Signs tits.

6. Pete-Bassist-“ The crier”, in love with Jenny from Boston.

WARNING: This book contains multiple love stories, some may break your heart.

Camila Dunne- “Aurora” Aka The Wife and who Billy put before anything and everything in the world.

I cannot believe that these people don’t really exist. I love them; I want to listen to everything that they’ve written. Can you imagine the passion that would be behind these songs? I am ecstatic that Daisy’s face was on the cover because I found myself picturing her often. Also, I know I can’t be the only one imagining what Billy Dunne looks like, right? He’s gotta be dreamy.

It was the 70’s and Daisy was only concerned about two things, and well, one person.

BEAUTY: “ If you were a cat, your screech would bring every cat running to you.”

DRUGS: “ The only thing that was going to come before her music was her dope.”

BILLY: “ It was never going to be easy with him, was it?”

This tale is one that I will never be able to forget. I absolutely loved it. The twist in the end made it even better. I’ve never used this word to describe a book before, but it was very CHILL. Daisy gave me major Courtney Love or Stevie Nicks vibes. I’ve become a total fan-girl of a fake band!!

This novel is a knock out ride, with a unique format that none the less sucks you into this ride through a behind the music style tale of a band and a singer who come together to make fantastic music before imploding.

I am truly struggling with how to review this book. There was tremendous hype about it. Sadly, (for me), it failed to deliver on that hype.
Written as interviews with various characters; the premise got old fast. Daisy is a pretty girl who has loads of talent; becomes part of a band and the band breaks up. Why?
If you're a fan of rock documentaries, this may be the book for you. I love them, however, this one just didn't work for me.

Best audiobook of 2019! If ever a book was meant to be made into audio this is the book! I just cannot emphasize how much I love this! This is my first book from TJR and I need to read everything from her backlog and I need to read it now!

On the surface, Daisy Jones and the Six is about as far from being a "Kim book" as you can possibly get. I mostly read romance and this book isn't that. I'm not really all that interested in documentaries or rock bands. I've never been one to sit around watching VH1 Behind the Music. (Is that still a thing? I honestly wouldn't know.) I'd seen all the glowing reviews for it, but I set it aside when I tried to read it before release. It wasn't a DNF, but I just wasn't into it at that moment. It honestly wasn't until a friend recommended it for the 12 reads, 12 friends challenge that I decided to finally pick it up. But this time I went with the audio since I'd heard so much praise for it. I was hooked within the first few minutes and I never did look back.

This is one of those instances where even weeks after reading I'm not really sure how to put my thoughts into coherent sentences. Let alone sentences that will do this incredible story any justice whatsoever. But it also doesn't feel right to NOT review the book, so here we are. I'm going to keep my review as spoiler-free as possible because I really feel you're best going into this book totally blind. It's best to ride the wave and just experience it, preferably on audio. I'm sure it's a great book no matter how you read it, but now that I've listened to the audio, I can't imagine it any other way. 

What makes this audiobook so special? It's full-cast. And even better? It's full-cast with actors you've probably heard of before. I listen to a lot of audiobooks. I have loved a lot of audiobooks, but I've never listened to one that's as much of an experience as Daisy Jones and the Six is. The only books to come close are the Harry Potter audiobooks and, as much as I love them, they're still not like this. I was entirely immersed in the story. It was like I was listening to a documentary. I was obsessed. 

Don't go looking for a bunch of relatable and likable characters in Daisy Jones and the Six. You really won't find them. Or at least I didn't. But that said, the characters were rich and multi-dimensional. They had good qualities. They also had not-so-good qualities. But man, do they find a way under your skin. This is a gritty book. I mean, it's sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll in the 1970s. I wouldn't expect anything less. It was fascinating. Not my usual jam, but fascinating none the less. It's full of twists and turns. I didn't see a lot of it coming. And I certainly didn't realize how invested I was in this story and these characters until I was full-on sobbing in the last 30 or so minutes.

If you've been on the fence about whether you want to read Daisy Jones and the Six, give it a try. Even if you're a mostly romance reader like myself. You're not going to get that with this book, but you will get a gripping and unforgettable story. It's easily one of my favorite books of the year and I suspect I'll listen to it several more times.

I really enjoyed Daisy Jones & The Six. However, I do not agree with what seems to be the rest of the book community that this is Taylor Jenkins Reid's best book. Although it has her characteristic great writing and characters so well fleshed-out that they seem like real people, the storyline wasn't as compelling to me as her other books have been. I would still recommend Daisy Jones & The Six to book lovers, but it would not be my first Taylor Jenkins Reid recommendation, even though I did enjoy reading it.

I know I'm in the minority with this book. It seems that people love Taylor Jenkins Reid, I'm always seeing people praise her highly. I just don't see it myself. She's not a bad writer but I guess I'm not seeing where/how/why she's always getting 5 star ratings. ( I'm sure someone will be bad mouthing me but this is just MY OPINION!) This was ok and only just. Nothing more, nothing less. It reminded me a lot of the movie Almost Famous, only the movie was better. I didn't think this was outstanding in any way. It was an ok story about a 70's rock band. It was a decent book to pass the time with. I'm glad I read it but not something I fell in love with.

This book was amazing. I really enjoyed going back to the 70's and I was a teenager then, so I really understood this book and loved it. I have read a few books about rock stars, but this is my favorite of all.
This book tells of the life Daisy Jones lives before growing up, and then once she starts getting involved as a teenager in the Hollywood scene. She is a wild child, and into this life of hers walks the Six, in particular Billy Dunne. Billy is the leader of the group.
This book has all the angst, love, hate, loneliness, and every other kind of emotion, and was so well written I didn't want it to end. It was a magical story!

This book makes so much more sense if to you know that it's very loosely based on the history of Fleetwood Mac, if Stevie Nicks were a redhead. "Behind the Music"-style chronicle of a 1970s band's rise and implosion.

Did I enjoy this book? Wow! This book was on all the book club lists and was recommended to me by a friend, so I had high hopes for this one. I opened the book and thought there is no way I’m going to like this format! This book is written as the transcript of an interview with different members of the band The Six as well as Daisy Jones. I was positive that there was no way I could enjoy a book that reads like a movie script. How do you understand the setting? How does the plot advance? As all of this skepticism is running through my mind, I realized I was halfway through the book! Somehow the author has artfully woven the narrative so that you feel like you are a member of the band, like you are an audience member at a concert. I’ve never read a book like this before, and I’m not sure I ever will again. This book was delightful!!



Would I recommend it? Absolutely! I have been singing the praises of this book (pun intended) to everyone I meet. This was such a great book! I’ve heard that it will become an Amazon limited series and even have the actual music written as well. I can’t wait!!!

Daisy Jones and the Six follows a musical group of the same name through their biggest years, as told by the characters themselves. I loved how the author played with memory and the stories we tell ourselves and others. Definitely inspired by the behind the scenes of Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors, it almost feels like the transcript of a talking head documentary on vh1 or mtv. If you’re at all interested in the 70s rock scene and all that comes with it, you’ll enjoy this book. It’s my favorite of the year!

So so great! I read this book in a day. I loved the backstory and ins and outs of how The Six formed and how Daisy joined them. And I loved the ending and seeing how all the band members turned out. Definitely highly recommend this book and TJR is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

Read this this past summer but I'm still thinking about it and recommending it to everyone! Love the way the book was set up with each character having their own opinion of how things went down (think Jersey Boys with each major character shining light on the same history but different view point). Excellent read!

Another great novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Told in the format of interviews with the members of a rock band, this story is such an engaging fast read. I don't think I've ever read a novel about a rock band, so I appreciate the unique story line.

The writing is so good in this book, I don't even remember turning pages or progressing through chapters. It feels like I saw a movie, or binge watched a cable show -- this story is so immersive and rings so true, it absolutely absorbs the reader and doesn't let go. So enjoyable!

Daisy Jones & The Six is an incredible book! This novel was so incredibly original, it felt like nothing else that had ever been done before. Taylor Jenkins Reid blew me away with the incredible interview format, the rich characters, and the powerful storyline that sucked me in from page one!

I am so late reviewing this book, but thank goodness nobody was waiting around for my review to convince them to read it. As so many have figured out by now, this is a terrific book. Written in the style of the best Rolling Stone interviews, back when we clamored to read each new issue, this book just rolled along, surprising and delighting with sly plot twists and a beguiling cast of characters. Reid captures all of the behind-the-scenes drama, and relates it in a style that is compelling and completely believable. I was thinking so much about Fleetwood Mac while reading this that at some points I needed to remind myself that it wasn’t their story—not because it was so similar, but because the characters were so real. Definitely a must for old school rock fans.
