Traveler’s Zone is the kind of book a book should be. It’s relentlessly creative and brings to mind the work of William Gibson, Ernest Cline, and JG Ballard.

I can only hope the author had as much fun writing it as I did reading it.

I was excited to see this book in Netgalley because I loved the first book in the series, Starter Zone.

Traveler's Zone picks up a few months after the conclusion of the prior novel. Cami is ready to go on to the next level of the game while Alby and L.G. go to school. First, though, they have to travel to MidWorld and set up their Homestead. Then Cami is off to explore while the other two are studying and improving their minds (and crafting skills.) When she hits the Traveler's Zone, the action increases and the mysteries deepen.

Through it all, we see Cami growing up and contending with new problems. Now that her family is relatively safe in the Zones, she has to figure out how to support them. There are so many things she wants for her little sister, and L.G. (he's my favorite!), but she has to earn in-game gold for their education and comfort. She's willing to do the work, she just needs to find her way.

There is so much in here for anyone who enjoys MMORPGS. It's not a WoW clone, although there are nods to World of Warcraft, Black Desert, MineCraft, Terra, Final Fantasy, Guild Wars, and so many others. (You can really tell that Pavesic has played these games!) Instead, though, it is a unique world created with a tremendous amount of depth.

In fact, I want to play a game designed by this author someday. I really hope that happens!

There is mystery, intrigue, action, adventure, swords-and-sorcery, pirates, airships, battles with 3-armed monsters, and so much more. I highly recommend this book and I can't wait for the next one in the series!
