I have really enjoyed this series’s. You are looking clean books that have adventure, love and a bit of mystery. You will love this series!! Happy Reading 🤩 |
Whew! Talk about some major romantic tension. Owen and Emaline have an immediate attraction to each other, but being on different sides of the war has serious implications and drives a wedge between what could be a rapid romance. Instead, we're able to see the characters grow in faith before anything more can be between them. The Liberty Bride is filled with drama, suspense, and my favorite type of sarcastic banter. Fun and sass you don't want to miss. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. |
Liberty. It is something, I believe, we all take for granted, yet it is something that was bought with a steep price. In The Liberty Bride, we get to witness a glimpse of how The War of 1812 was for some. Intrigue and suspense shroud this novel, as two American's end up becoming undercover agents of sorts, doing everything they can to survive, even if that means lying about where their loyalties lie. I was instantly charmed by Owen and couldn't help but love Emeline's sweet spirit, my heart going out to both, unable to comprehend what they endured. The action was perfect, not too gruesome, but still painted a vivid picture. Me being prone to horrible bouts of motion sickness, I cannot even begin to fathom being on a ship for that long, during a battle no less! Engaging, with intrigue, suspense, and wonderful writing, this was an enjoyable and wonderful escape! |
Sadly I'm DNF this series because I can't get into at all , ts why I haven't been posting reviews for it , |
Unfortunately, I was unable to read this book due to a formatting issue. My review is based on the blurb. |
I enjoyed this sweet tale of two people fighting for a better life...and discovering that perhaps there's more to living than either of them had thought. Between the interesting plot, the sweet romance, the adventure, and the engaging characters, there isn't much that this book doesn't have! The only thing that I didn't love was the fact that the time spent on the boat felt a little too long. It wasn't until the characters disembarked and began their journey over land that the story really seemed to start. that said, The second half really makes up for the slow start, and the ending was beautiful and satisfying. I'd recommend it to fans of Historical Fiction, Christian Fiction, and anyone interested in the American Revolution. (I received a complimentary copy of this book through Netgalley. I was asked to give an honest review. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.) |
I didn't really like the beginning as the writing was telly and very dramatic but by the end of the book I had fallen in love with the story. |
I have absolutely loved All of the Daughters of the Mayflower books, and this is no exception. The War of 1812 is a very underrepresented time in history as far as historical romance goes, and I’ve loved reading all about the family throughout all of the eras of America’s history. There were some parts that didn’t flow as naturally as I would have liked, but I very much enjoyed Emeline’s unconventional independence and Owen’s gallantry. Another excellent installation of this series! |
While I enjoyed the characters and the plot of this book, I found myself annoyed at how long the misunderstanding dragged on. I think I would have enjoyed the book a lot more if the main characters had found out the truth about each other much sooner in the story. I also wanted to be sure and mention that there is an attempted rape that I found quite disturbing so if that is a trigger for you, you may want to skip this one. Aside from those two things, I enjoyed this book. Please ignore other reviewers who complained about the timeline being wrong. This book is set during the War of 1812, NOT the American Revolution, and the author definitely did her research. I enjoyed learning more about this little-known period of history. My favorite part of this book was actually the two female characters who befriended the main character. I loved their boldness and how they showed her that following the Lord is the greatest adventure. |
The Liberty Bride had me hooked from page one! I am obsessed and have since become an avid Tyndall reader. Five stars! |
This book was probably written for the ladies to read, but I enjoyed it. It follows Emeline Baratt as she returns from Britain to her Baltimore home during the War of 1812. She ends up captured on a British warship where she comes into contact with Lieutenant Owen Masters. Life on the ship is hard, but not as hard for someone who claims to be a British sympathizer. Emeline takes that route to try to make it home. She uses her nursing skills to treat both crewmen and captive Americans. Double agents, romance, and some accurate history make this book a very good read. |
I really enjoy these Mayflower Bride books. The Liberty Bride definitely made me think about the roles females may have played in that era. A very well written book. Looking forward to the next in the series |

Another great addition in the Daughters of the Mayflower series. I think my favorite thing about this series (ok one of my favorites, aside from finding new authors to follow, great characters, sweet love stories and more) is the historical aspects of this series. I've really enjoyed learning more about the wars, the historical settings and significant moments of history. This book focuses on the War of 1812 and follows two characters, Owen Masters and Emeline Baratt. I don't want to give anything away. To be honest, I had several books that I'm trying to catch up on because summer has been busy and I'm behind, and I thought I could just quickly skim through this one so I could read it to know what was happening, the struggles and the resolution. I was wrong! So wrong! I couldn't set it down and I just really enjoyed it. So if you are thinking like me that you're just going to grab it, skim it and that's that...you're wrong, so wrong. You'll be finding yourself reading it all and enjoying Owen and Emeline's story just like I did. This book is full of patriotism for country, sacrifice, love, friendship, betrayal, heartache, pain, deception, false identities, trust in God, ships, battles, spies, war, love, and much, much more! If you've been following along with this series, you'll enjoy another great read. If you haven't, no worries, these can all be read as stand alone novels. Yay! That makes it easier if you just want to pick and choose and not have to read 8+ books that you may not want to read. Although, I've enjoyed them all and will encourage you to pick up more than one or two of them if that's possible. This author was a new to me author when I started this series and I've come to appreciate her writing style and her characters and their development. I'll keep watching for more of her books in the future. Content: Clean. This is a Christian fiction novel and as such has moments throughout where the characters talk of God. They turn to Him in their need, offer some prayers to Him, talk with other characters about Him. There is a scene with an attempted rape but nothing happens. Of course since this is about the War of 1812 there are battles and some moments of suspense. I received a copy from the publisher, Barbour Publishing, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own. Happy Reading!!! |

I had a hard time getting through this book. There was so much whining and complaining and the chemistry felt forced to me on this one. I have enjoyed other books in the Mayflower series but this one isn't one of them, unfortunately. |
The Liberty Bride is a fascinating book about the War of 1812, and a heroine who saved the nation by pretending to be someone she wasn’t. I couldn’t help but love Emeline, who was courageous, and slightly stubborn, and always managing to get herself into improper situations. |
Emaline Baratt is a character who shows great courage in a very difficult situation. She also struggles with the right and wrong of it. Owen Masters just wants information and to go home. It’s a great tale and reminder of what our ancestors endured. I enjoyed this adventure. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. All views stated here are my own. |
I have not read this yet, as I am reading them in order. I have no fear that this will be an excellent book because she is a wonderful author. |
This is an incredible historical romance! I love both Owen and Emeline. They are very well developed. They both have very painful memories of their fathers. These have formed their view of God. Throughout this book they each have strong believers that are doing all they can to help them learn to trust God and rely on Him. I loved their separate journeys and how they intersect at various times. This author has a marvelous talent for writing pirate and privateer stories. This book doesn’t disappoint in this aspect. She has included plenty of action to keep the excitement level up. Her description of sailing vessels and all things involved in sailing in the early 1800s is fantastic. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher, through NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review. All of the opinions expressed are my own. |
It is quite lovely addition to "Daughters of the Mayflower", Christian historical fiction series. The main character of "The Liberty Bride" is Emeline Baratt, an artist at heart, who loves painting and secretly longs for adventure (don't we all?). The novel takes place in August 1814 when England and America are at war. During voyage by a privateer's ship from England to Boston, Emeline is captured by English warship. She is considered a prisoner of the Crown, so to help other prisoners and facilitate her own escape, she decides to pretend that she is loyal to England and become a spy. She has no idea there is another American spy very close to her, that watches her every move and despises her for betraying her country... First Lieutenant Owen Masters just waits for an opportunity to steal valuable information from the British and escape from hated service. He wants to fight for the American cause, but for the moment he has to pretend and lie. He is fascinated by Emeline, her courage and beauty, but of course he is determined to stay away from her. Not such luck, they are both send on a dangerous mission, that could mean the destruction of American resistance. What makes everything even more dangerous is that they are still not sure about each other's loyalties. Emeline and Owen need to learn the importance of trust and that sometimes an enemy can be an ally in disguise. Overall, it was an enjoyable read. I received "The Liberty Bride" from the publisher via NetGalley. I would like to thank the author and the publisher for providing me with the advance reader copy of the book. |
Taking readers to the seas, ships, and shores of the War of 1812, Tyndall weaves a romantic tale of espionage and intrigue that will keep readers guessing. Emeline and Owen are both layered characters with backstories to unpack, faith to wrestle with, and secrets to maintain, though Owen may take longer to warm up to for some readers. Emeline’s kind heart and inner strength in the midst of the horrors of war are a highlight of the story, as is the nearly-tangible romantic chemistry between hero and heroine. Divided loyalties - at least outwardly - complicate their growing feelings for each other and add further dimension to their relationship. Tyndall doesn’t shy away from the harsh reality of the war or the truth of history, yet she also makes sure to wrap it all in hope, love, grace, and an incredibly touching example of deeply personal faith. |
