This was an absolutely perfect suspense book. There is so many different stories going on that interconnect at the end to a great conclusion. Did Eryn really kill her mother or was there something else sinister going on? I didn't figure out the end which gives kiddos to the author because usually in mystery books you can kinda figure out midway thru what is going on and why. Loved this book lots of mystery and suspense! This book just flowed and was a very easy fast paced book! Definitely recommend to anyone who likes a good mystery! .

This one grabs you by your insides and never lets go! Whooooooo, what a book.

Cady Maddix, a survivor in every way possible, is now a gritty, steely US Marshall. She is assigned to find an escapee from a hospital for the criminally insane named Samuel Aldeen. Aldeen is the stuff of nightmares, having a proclivity for both young children and cannibalism.

The outlier is Eryn Pullman, a young woman released from a psychiatric hospital, 12 years after the murder of her mother. Aldeen has his sights set on Eryn for reasons unclear and as this suspenseful, twisty story unfolds, Brant's talent for story telling is a thing to behold.

I loved this book and know it's one I'll be thinking about for some time. Brant is a wordsmith and a wonder.

Thank you to Netgalley, Thomas and Mercer, and Kylie Brant for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I really enjoyed this book. I’m not usually a fan of books that change between characters and time periods with each chapter however I thought the way they all interlocked made it work well with this book. I would recommend reading it and look forward to more of the same lead characters in future books.

This is the first book I've read by this author and it's clear from the get-go she's far from a new author.

Cold dark places is told from a number of point-of-views which allows readers to really go to know three central characters.

If you enjoy suspenseful stories, that touch on some tough topics, mental illness for one, cannibalism for another, you'll find yourself enthralled by the tale.

The beginning is really choppy, and it was hard to follow the storyline/how everyone and everything was connected. Therefore, it was hard to get invested in the story. I managed to make it to the end, but I was underwhelmed. I love Kylie Brant’s other books, but this one missed its mark for me.

Cady Maddix made something of herself, leaving her ugly upbringing behind to pursue a career in criminal justice. Now, she’s returned home to care for her dying mother, but she’s immediately caught up in the manhunt for escaped child killer Samuel Aideen, who has broken out of a maximum security mental institution. Cady believes Aideen’s next victim is Eryn Pullman, herself recently released from a psychiatric hospital. The U.S. Marshal will need to use all the skills she learned and most importantly, to draw from her own troubled background to stop a killer

Eryn has been living in a mental health facility for 11 years. She was accused of murdering her Mother when she was 9 years old. She has now been released into the care of her family. Not everyone is happy that Eryn has been released.

Samuel Alden was found guilty but insane for kidnap, rape and the canibalization of 6 children. He manages to escape a nearby mental health facility for the criminally insane. Multiple law enforcement agencies are searching for him but he seems to always be 1 step ahead.

This book is the first in a new series featuring Deputy U. S. Marshall Cady Maddix. Cadys past has an eerie parallel to Eryns.

This book is filled with suspense and lots of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The ending has a surprise. The book has alternating chapters from different characters viewpoints, some that go into the past. I look forward to future books in this series. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Cold Dark Places is the first book in Kylie Brant's new series. This book is full of twists and turns and surprises and a shocking ending. I could not put it down. I finished this book yesterday and today I am still thinking about this book and what the characters have been though in their life. I highly recommend this book to all mystery readers

I love when authors give us sick and twisted killers but mixing mental illness with a side of sexual deviancies has to top the list..

Mental illness is shown in all forms through out this book. From schizophrenia to Alzheimer's. This truly made for some fascinating reading.

Cold Dark Places is the first book in a new series featuring US Deputy Marshall Cady Maddix. She didn't have a pleasant childhood which has left emotional scars and the current case she is working on not only has her relating one of the potential victims but its also stirring up unwanted memories.

This was an edge of your seat suspense full of twists and turns, many of which you don't see coming.
