Probably still one of the most powerful books I have ever read. The emotional attachment to the two main characters contributes to this in no small way. _Every_ student who has read this book has loved it without fail. And these are students with a wide range of reading tastes, so it is interesting to see an historical novel set in World War 2 have such wide appeal. Again, I think it has much to do with how well the author writes the story of friendship between two young women.
