It's just an ordinary day at Peabody St Nursery. Nine children ages between three & five are playing happily together or on their own. One of the staff begins to gather them together for a story when three armed men appear. They lock the staff in a cupboard, seriously injuring one of them and whisk the children off in a minibus.

The injured member of staff had her phone in her pocket & the staff called for help. By the time DCI Anna Tate arrives the minibus is gone. As a mother who lost her child when her ex-husband abducted her daughter, this is a case that fills Anna with an even great desire to reunite these children with their parents.

Understandably the parents are distraught. The Brady's have an additional worry as their son Liam has cystic fibrosis & needs medication to keep him alive. The parents blame the staff, especially as the owner has had previous problems with another nursery she runs. When a ransom note arrives Anna worries that time may run out before they find the kidnappers.

This was a fast paced well written story. I liked the characters & I'm delighted to hear that there are more stories featuring Anna Tate- especially after that ending!

I was very excited about this book from the blurb and couldn't wait to get started. In Safe Hands is a heart in your mouth crime where you cannot help but read on to find out whats next.
Nine children are kidnapped from their nursery with the teacher attacked and DCI Anna has to find them. However, her back story is told alongside this crime which makes it even more exciting as her daughter has been missing for some time. Will she be able to handle this case and keep a level head.
In Safe Hands is the first of a new series which I cannot wait to read. This is a trilling crime that had my heart in my mouth till the end. Loved it.

Anna is a very likeable character. Her personal story runs alongside the main story.

This is a well written story with a good pace. Be warned if your a parent with little kids this story may give you the heebie-jeebies. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.

A gripping full of suspense fast-paced novel. Not everyone's cup of tea. Personally, I found it a little over-written and the ending spoiled it for me. Four stars.

This is the first book in a series featuring DCI Anna Tate. The book opens with every mum’s nightmare, when armed men enter a children’s nursery, fatally attacking a member of staff and kidnapping nine young children, DCI Tate is then racing against time to find the men responsible. For Anna this case is very difficult for her, as ten years previous, her own daughter was kidnapped by her estranged husband and Anna has never been able to track her down. Anna is racing against the clock as Liam, one of the kidnapped children, suffers from cystic fibrosis and he needs his medication to survive. The story is told from the point of view of Anna and Ruth, Liam’s mum. Out of the blue, as Anna is investigating this case she is contacted by a man who has information on her missing daughter. This is a really gripping thriller, fast paced and with plenty of twists. I can’t wait for the second book in this series as Anna continues the search for her daughter.

I thought the story sounded exciting but skipped a few pages occasionally to move it on as it was slow and I didn’t feel a connection with the characters. I should have been able to empathise with the parents but the ones I met weren’t a pleasant bunch. It was strange that the novel started with Tasha a character with very little part in it. This was a set up that didn’t give the reader any pay off as she wasn’t involved in anything thereafter. My major niggle was the events that we saw unfold and then had to hear about again, in Anna’s conversations or police incident meetings as if we might have missed the way the plot was unfolding. It was this repetition that gave me the urge to skip pages. I expected part of Anna’s story to be left hanging because it’s a series but the ending was rushed and unsatisfying to me as a reader. The urge to buy the next book was too blatant and I imagine the missing daughter will hang around for another half dozen books.

I really wanted to like this book. I am a sucker for a detective story and was excited to get to read this.

Unfortunately, the story was completely predictable, the writing was clunky and awkward, the main character (Anna) wasn’t likeable at all, her partner was barely mentioned.

Sorry, but I don’t think I will be reading the second one...

Absolutely gripping book, devoured it in one sitting, a great read full of suspense, what a cliffhanger ending, I can't wait for the next in the series.

Wow! What a totally brilliant book. I think it is well written, full of edge of the seat excitement and I really did not want to go to work this morning as I was so close to finishing it.

I really can't wait for the follow up.

The cover of this book grabbed my attention immediately. That and the fact that it was the first in the DCI Anna Tate series.
I do love a good crime thriller series and this one is going to be a cracker.
Anna Tate we find out early on in the book has her own issues in life which are at the forefront when she gets a call to say that nine children have been kidnapped from a nursery school in broad daylight.
Every parents absolute nightmare you can imagine..
The plot is brilliant, it keeps you hooked completely throughout the book.
It's fast-paced, Anna is up against time to find the children and find them alive.
I loved the character Anna, she's very likeable and can relate to all of the parents and what they are going through.
The author has created such an amazing character in Anna that I'm really excited to see what's coming next from her.
Highly recommend this book, you won't be disappointed I promise you....

In Safe Hands is the first book in a new series by an J P Carter and it is a promising start.

The 2 main strands to the book work well and the main characters are engaging.

My only reservation is that the ending felt a little rushed however overall it was an enjoyable book which us recommended

I would probably give 3.5 stars if I could as it was a good read - there were some parts that were a bit slow, and I felt myself losing interest a bit, but I would definitely read others by J P Carter.
I really liked Anna, and enjoyed the back story surrounding her own abducted daughter.
As a mum who’s child goes to nursery, I felt a range of emotions for the poor parents, and felt the author really did a good job of setting the scene for and after the abduction.
Enjoyable - but not as edge of my seat as I had hoped.

In Safe Hands had me gripped from the start. DCI Anna Tate is in charge of rescuing 9 children kidnapped from their nursery. As the book takes place in real time over 4 days ,you are living and breathing the case as it unfolds and this only serves to enhance the read. As time is running out and the ransom deadline is approaching so the tension ramps up. Alongisde the case Anna has to deal with her own trauma, 10 years ago her ex-husband abducted her daughter and disappeared abroad. Every day, no matter how late, before going to bed Anna checks her social media sites to see if there’s any new tips on Chloe. Suddenly , out of the blue, a dying man gets in touch with information as he’s seen Anna’s face on a tv appeal. Could this be the one piece of information that solves the 10 year hunt?

J.P.Carter has written an incredible novel and its left me wanting more, can’t wait for the next instalment.

Wow! This certainly promises to be a great new series featuring DCI Anna Tate. I need book 2.
Fast paced read, 9 children have been snatched from a nursery school, 3 men posing as police officers have made off with the 9 young children. The 9 sets of parents are obviously distraught, one of the little boys has a chronic medical condition and will need his medication.
This is a gripping read, DCI Ana Tate leads her team as they search for the kidnappers and the children in a race against time, every lead is investigating thoroughly, and the parents have quite a few hidden secrets. The case is also personal to Anna as her own daughter has been missing for some years and she has never given up the search for her.
A super read with a twist right at the end - will be looking forward to reading more in this series.

In Safe Hands by J. P. Cater tells the story of nine children kidnapped from Peabody nursery in South London. Their parents are understandably distressed and furious with the owner of the nursery for letting the kidnappers in.

D.C.I Anna Tate knows that this will be a tough case for her. Her own daughter was kidnapped by her ex husband and they both disappeared without a trace.

Then a ransom comes in and the kidnappers are threatening to harm the children if it isn’t paid but how can they agree to pay when it opens up every child in the country to being kidnapped. Who would they even be paying anyway?

In Safe Hands was a fast-paced book and it had me gripped until the end. Like many others I did guess the identity of one of the kidnappers, but I don’t think this distracted from my enjoyment of the book. This may have been because I found Anna’s story was the one, I was interested in the most. The kidnapping of the children was a good story but for me it didn’t feel like the main one.

Anna was the best character in the book and a major part of why I enjoyed reading In Safe Hands. She was warm, compassionate but also absolutely focused on the case she was working on despite her personal history.

In Safe Hands ended on a cliffhanger and although I can’t say the book will stay with me, I will be reading the next in the series.

This is everyone's nightmare. When 9 children are kidnapped from a day nursery DCI Anna Tate and her team have to job of tracking the kids and her kidnappers down. They have a 6 million ransom demand before they start killing the children. DCI knows what it's like to never see a child again after her ex husband ran off with their young girl so she is determined to do everything in her power to bring those kids back. It is not made any easier when one of the kid Liam has cystic fibrosis so they need to be found quick. The story unfolds on the kidnappers and the parents of the children. I certainly didn't guess it would end as it did and was a nice suprise. I was given this book to read by Netgalley in excahnge for my honest reveiw.

Enjoyable thriller. 3.5 stars.

Promising start to a new detective series that has a likeable lead character and an interesting, yet tragic story.

Story felt slightly clunky to me at times and I would’ve liked to have known a bit more about Anna Tates background. Maybe this is something that can be explored in future books, as well as developing her personality a bit more.

I really liked this first book in the DCI Anna Tate series - it kept my attention throughout and the suspense kept me turning the pages rapidly! As a parent to a child in a daycare, the scenario presented to us of 9 children between the ages of 3 and 5 being kidnapped from daycare for unknown reasons was terrifying. All the feelings being felt by those in the book felt genuine.

While I had guessed the perpetrator before it was revealed, it didn’t ruin the story at all. I’m really looking forward to the second book in this series and to learn more about DCI Anna Tate! Great read for those who are looking for a can’t-put-down thriller.

An amazing book that is so fast paced, full of twists potential suspects. With the first few pages the kidnapping of 9 children from the nursery has happened - no long lead in! I did decide fairly early on who was involved but no way did I manage to get my way through the fantastic story that evolved. A superb realistic story that has added another great author to my list to watch. The last bit at the end giving the details of the author adds the other names that this wonderful author has written under. .Highly recommend this book and author to anyone who loves a gripping story. Already I have had two friends purchased this on its debut day following my constant discussions as I was reading.

I did enjoy reading In Safe Hands, I’m going to say that first, that and, it felt like quite a huge step for ALL of the children to go missing so I was intrigued to find out how it was going to be resolved.
But.

I know this is a daft thing to get worked up about, but if I read the words “the Shrek Adventure” once I read them what felt like 20 times. I realise rationally that it shouldn’t bother me, but it really did.

Right, that is out there, I’ll get on with the rest of it now! As I say I did enjoy reading it, I worked out fairly early on who was behind the abduction, but that’s my experience and of course might not be the same for everyone else, I enjoyed reading from Ruth’s perspective, that of the anguished parent of missing child Liam. The situation made only worse by the fact that Liam suffers from cystic fibrosis and needs regular treatment. I thought this was written well, and Ruth was a likeable and relatable character which meant I was invested in her throughout.

The plot was quite a brave one I thought, with not one but nine children being abducted; it felt like a huge case to be solved. But it was, unfortunately, believable; I could see how such a thing could happen, and that of course must be the stuff of nightmares.

But the best thing about In Safe Hands are the words “stunning new crime series featuring DCI Anna Tate”. A new series, ooh how much I like these, and Anna was a great character to boot. The fact the this case reflected her own experience of her daughter being abducted by her father worked really well, with developments in her search echoing what was happening on the ground. I look forward to seeing how her own mystery is solved in future books.

In Safe Hands is a good read and a great introduction to a series.
