I’d like to thank Avon Books UK and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘In Safe Hands’ by J P Carter in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Three armed men disguised as police officers walk into the Peabody Nursery where they lock three members of staff in a room, severely injuring one, and abduct nine children aged between three and five years. One of the children, Liam, suffers from cystic fibrosis and if he doesn’t get his medication he’ll become ill very quickly.
DCI Anna Tate is the senior investigating officer in charge of searching for the children and she soon realises this case is likely to become tough, unpredictable and dangerous as the men have demanded a ransom of £6 million whic, if not received by the given deadline, will result in a child dying. She can sympathise with the parents of the children as her own daughter was abducted by her ex-husband ten years ago and Anna’s still looking for her.
‘In Safe Hands’ is a gripping and well-written thriller that’s had me hooked from the beginning. There are twists and turns, convincing suspects and a fast-paced plot with lots of action. This novel is the first in a new crime series featuring DCI Anna Tate and if the cliff-hanger on the last page is anything to go by we can look forward to more nail-biting excitement with Anna and the search for her missing daughter.

With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the book in exchange for an honest review.
D C I Anna Tate is an interesting policewoman, her ex husband abducted their daughter after their divorce and she hasn’t see her for 10 years.
The case she is involved in is when nursery children are taken from their nursery and kept as hostages for ransom. Will Anna Tate be able to find and return them safe and well before the deadline for the ransom to be paid.
It was a thoroughly engrossing and gripping psychological thriller. I would read more books by J P Carter in the future.
Highly recommended.

Where to even begin with this review, I’m still in shock, in a good way though because it’s a plot that could actually happen and for parents reading it, it will really hit home.

Nine children are abducted from Peabody Nursery by three men. DCI Anna Tate has been appointed the SIO on the case, will she be able to handle it as her daughter was abducted when she was two years old by her dad, 10 years later and Anna has still not managed to track them down. Can she put her personal feelings aside and focus on those 9 missing children ranging in age from 3-5 with one of them suffering from Cystic Fibrosis.

With no leads and nothing much to go on, then receive a ransom demand, £6 million in bitcoins which are non traceable once they have been transferred and then the children will be released. The 9 sets of parents don’t have that kind of money and so it turns into a political debate, do the tax payers pay the ransom leaving it open for every Tom, Dick and Harry to abduct children nationwide as an easy money maker?

With a deadline of 11 a.m. Thursday morning, Anna is against the clock, can she figure it out on time?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, so much so, I read it within the day, I couldn’t put it down, I was completely drawn into the story, with emotions running high and parents starting the blame game, what will the outcome be?

Highly recommended, many thanks to Netgalley and Avon Books UK for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

I didn't expect to get sucked into this book just as much as I did. When a nursery is held up at gunpoint, 9 children go missing and no-one can find them. As DCI Anna Tate rushes against the clock to find the children before harm is brought to them, she is also battling her own personal turmoil of losing a child.
I was gripped and the book took some great twists and turns. I loved the twist and the reasons behind the kidnapping that we learned at the end but would loved the answer to one final question.

5 plus stars- I absolutely loved this book. Each character was so well written and so important to the storyline. Anna is such a strong fierce detective and I cannot wait to read the continuation of her story. What will happen between her and Tom and what happens when the mystery of her ex becomes even deeper and darker? Thank you for allowing me to read this book.

This was a five star read, a fascinating and gripping mystery filled with suspense. The reason I notched the rating down to three stars was the absolutelyl unsatisfying ending. I can't believe the publishers and editors approved that ending or thought it would be a good way to complete the story. As far as I'm concerned, They ruined the entire experience. One star to whomever decided that ending was a good way to go!

I would like to thank Netgalley and Avon Books UK for an advance copy of In Safe Hands, the first novel in a projected series to feature DCI Anna Tate of The Met.

Anna’s usual day of overwork and under resource is interrupted by a kidnap. Three masked men have kidnapped nine children from a South London nursery but with no idea of motive Anna, as SIO, cannot afford to dismiss any possibility.

I thoroughly enjoyed In Safe Hands which is a fast paced thriller with several unexpected twists and turns. The novel is told from two main points of view, Anna and Ruth, one of the parents. This not my favourite approach but in this case it works extremely well, giving the reader a good insight into the impact of the kidnap on both the investigation and the parents who are left worrying and not knowing. The reader gets a real sense of the urgency of the investigation and the terror and helplessness of the parents. I like the way Anna and her team start with no idea and through dedication, hard work and technology begin to build up a picture of the perpetrators.

I was less convinced by Anna’s history which looks to become a running theme throughout the series. 10 years ago Anna’s ex husband kidnapped their two year old daughter, Chloe, never to be seen again and Anna is still searching for her. The developments that occur in the novel are bombshells but seem rather unlikely. Otherwise she is a smart, effective detective with a likeable personality.

In Safe Hands is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.

I received an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a okay read. It translate as a police procedural that can easily be on screen.

DCI Anna Tate is task to find nine missing children. I like her character she was flawed and exciting to see where her character goes next.

As I was reading you can kinda figure out who the kidnapper is pretty early on to me anyway but it shouldn't keep you from reading the book it has it's moments.

Even though this crime is wrapped up it does leaves it open ended for a next book.

I am thrilled to have found a new author.....I love that this is book 1 in a series! I found the main character Anna to be flawed and likeable. I am excited to see where this journey takes her....the ending left it open for a great sequel.
J.P. Carter did a great job...I found the book to be very well written. Some people mentioned they found the book to be “predictable “ but I don’t agree. I wasn’t sure exactly where the book was heading and I was surprised with the ending!
I cannot wait for the next book!

Not sure what to make of this book, definitely not an edge of seat thriller and it left me a bit flat but it was a chore to wade through it.

I don't think I will read more from this author.

DCI Anna Tate works within the Met’s MIT section when she is called to an armed kidnapping at a nursery. 9 children have been kidnapped and their lives are at risk can she solve the case when there are so many obstructions?

I bloody loved this book! I like police procedure and there was something different about this which would translate to the tv screen perfectly. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

This is an enjoyable book. It’s a good mix of procedural and thriller that definitely kept my attention!

Now, you will know who is responsible for all this pretty early on – it’s very well telegraphed – but that shouldn’t hamper your enjoyment of the book.

I found myself worrying about our little victims and very anxious for our main character with her personal tragedy.

This seems to be one in a series. While our main crime is neatly tied up with a bow, there’s definitely an open ending that had me wishing for the next book.

I’m definitely on board for this series!

How far would you go to save the ones you love? The first book in a gripping new crime series featuring DCI Anna Tate.

When nine children are snatched from a nursery school in South London, their distressed parents have no idea if they will ever see them again. The community in the surrounding area in shock. How could this happen right under their noses? No one in the quiet suburban street saw anything – or at least that's what they're saying.

I can't wait for the next book!! The writing style was excellent and although I had a hunch of who the suspect was, it was still a great read.

Well this was a really good thriller and although I had a few suspicions about what was going it didn't in any way spoil my total enjoyment of the book as not all of them were right and as the story progressed it really racked up a notch leading to a really good ending. This is the first instalment featuring DCI Anna Tate and I hope it won't be too long before we get the next in this series as I for one will look forward to it very much. The writing was excellent and the characters believable making it a well recommended thriller from me,
My thanks to NetGalley and Avon publishers for allowing me to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
