We need a bit of mindfulness in our lives whether we realize it or not. And it doesn't have to be a bad or scary thing as some may think. It's important to be mindful in the things (and people) we let into our lives and in the things we do because we only have this one life. This helps us live mindfully and intentionally.

These little books are so easy to read and packed full of little tidbits of knowledge. While this book isn't 100% fully developed and doesn't give all the details that one would want, it does serve as a good starting point for the subject. It was nice to read this one and get a feel for mindfulness. Great for starters and it's cute!

It's a short book about several aspects of Mindfulness: the history, the science, the practice and being mindful in daily tasks.

In the first pages, mindfulness history is presented with details about older practices and religions. Some studies are shown supporting the principles of mindfulness.

A thing that I liked in this book was that we can learn how to practice mindfulness. This book is a nice reminder to be mindful:.

Gives a few meditations and does have three chapteres on more science focused information. You are getting a selection of infomation in the eight chapters. I am not a total fan of the author, I do like one or two of her books but this one did not do it for me.

This is not your typical mindfulness book. In the first part of the book, the author throws a lot of statistics at you all purporting to prove the health benefits of being mindful. She tells us when the study took place and its results. Interesting, but not helpful. Assuming the reader gets past the recitation of why she should practice mindfulness, the author finally get to the part the reader probably picked up the book in the first place, i.e., the how of mindfulness.

There are better books if you’re just interested in learning how to be mindful. But if you’d like to see what the researchers say about the benefits of being mindful and learn how to be mindful, then this is the book for you.

Thank you Sterling and Netgalley for an ARC of this fabulous book.

I have read many books on mindfulness and I wish this one came to me at the beginning of my reading journey.

This is a wonderful, non-biased, well researched introduction into the subject of mindfulness, perfect for those new to the subject and wanting some practical information as well and short, basic techniques to get started.

Amy Mercreee’s book gives short, informative chapters on almost everything you may wish to know initially before diving deeper into this subject. She includes the approaches of mindfulness through different religions, the scientific and medical approaches to mindfulness, how mindfulness is used in psychology right through to how to be mindful, either through breathing, mindfully eating, mindful excercise and more.

An easy to read introduction.
Thank you for this ARC which I highly recommend as a starting point to your mindfulness journey.

This small book goes through several aspects of Mindfulness: the history, the science, the practice and being mindful in daily tasks.

The history of mindfulness is told with details about older practices and religions; this is interesting since we can see how mindfulness has transformed.
The benefits are explored in several studies, and we can see some of them in this book.
One of the things the book touches on is listening to your mind, and letting the inner dialogue just pass, without engaging with it.
We can also learn how to practice mindfulness, with either the exercises in the book, or the guidelines for thoughts throughout our day.

This book is a nice reminder to be mindful: I particularly liked the exercise about watching people, and body scan.

Short and sweet you get a lot of mindfulness packed into this book. I liked the practices that it sets up for readers to try, great for anyone new to mindfulness (as I am) and trying to figure out how to implement this into your life and build up this skill.

This book is short.  I must say that for me, I find short books on these topics more appealing than heavy tomes.  I want to know more, but I really prefer reading fiction, so if I can learn about it quickly, I am in.  But if it's going to be a long time commitment, I will watch a TED Talk.

This book starts out with an explanation of mindfulness and an exercise to center and focus the reader.  But then there is a lot of information on the history of mindfulness, Hinduism, Buddhism, how yoga became a part of Western culture, oxytocin and nuerotransmitters.  Once you wade through all of that, there are more exercises.  I found the exercise parts useful.  I practiced the Loving Kindness Exercise and found it very empowering.  The last part of the book shows the reader ways to incorporate mindfulness into their everyday life, from eating and drinking to emotions and relationships.  There were different exercises for each section.  I found it helpful and interesting.  There was a lot of good information in this book.

Mindfulness is a skill. Learned and more difficult than one would think it should be.

I love that "A Little Bit of Mindfulness" looks at the science and positive effects of Mindfulness on our health.

My only criticism is that it would be easier to follow the exercises if they were set up in a table rather than a list.

This book is a great resource for those wanting to be more mindful in their day to day lives.

This was a super helpful guide to different types of meditation. Organized in tidy little sections, it will be easy to go back and find the technique that I want to revisit. Excellent book to pick up here and there in between other reading.

Mindfulness is a powerful and effective topic that all take for granted concerning their health. Mindfulness has become a very popular topic in our library and this book does a great job reflecting and explaining mindfulness in its concept and how it's effective. This book definitely lives up to turning a novice of mindfulness like myself into an expert of mindfulness. The exercises and concepts presented in this book are easily applicable to everyone's everyday life.

Thank you Netgalley and Sterling publishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. We will definitely consider adding this title for our self help collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

I am reading this great book and applying it as I read it so I am entering a review before completion.
I was taught a little about mindfulness 18 years ago. I am thrilled to read the background and trials that have gone on since I was introduced to it. It is a great tool. I am renewing my practice daily with this book.

A Little Bit of Mindfulness: an Introduction to Being Present, is part of a series written for the layperson about mindfulness.

Amy Leigh Mercree, the author, clearly knows what she is talking about and has a gift for simplifying what is really a complex way of living. Accessibility is the most important feature of this book. Enough guidance to ease one into living in the moment but not so much that people are overwhelmed.

I enjoy the topic and was happy to read this book. I learned some good pointers.

Amy Leigh Mercree has written a great book that everyone should read. It is easy to read and has practical guide for mindfulness. It this fast paced and overwhelming world, if we just practiced mindfulness everyday we could focus and be happier. I will buy this book when it comes out and give it to family and friends.
