You just cannot go wrong with Lisa Gardner. A strong plot and twists and turns galore prevail in "Never Tell". D.D. Warren is back in action, this time investigating the murder of a seemingly upstanding citizen in his home office. Shot multiple times, his body is found by his pregnant wife, Evie. Even more strange.....the computer had intentionally been shot multiple times also, so from the very beginning, it is clear that the husband, Conrad, must have had something to hide. Evie herself is shrouded in secrets, as years ago, she discovered her father's body at home, also shot and killed. A mere coincidence, or is Evie not quite as innocent as she seems?

Recovered kidnap victim, Flora Dane, is watching TV one day when she sees Conrad's face on the screen. Flora knows this man.....she met him years ago, out one night with her kidnapper, Jacob Ness. Flora immediately worms her way into the investigation. What dark secrets could Conrad have been hiding on his computer that he did not want to the world to discover?

D.D. and Flora soon join forces with Evie to try and discover what may have happened to Conrad. Evie also continues to try to clear her name not only from her past, but from this latest murder. Are the shootings related? What role might Conrad have played with Jacob Ness? The clock is ticking to uncover Conrad's killer, and also to find out the truth about what may have happened with Evie's father years ago. The past and the present may be tied together more than one would believe.

Never Tell is the tenth book in the Sergeant D.D. Warren series. The story begins with Gardner’s signature, compelling characterization and a plot that is nothing short of dark and disturbing. Flora Dane is back to help solve the case, determined to decipher the truth. However, Flora and D.D. quickly realize that the truth isn’t always what it seems — and every family has its share of secrets. Readers, be warned...you’re in for a thrilling ride.

Another great suspense thriller by Lisa Gardner, who's become a master of suspense. Never Tell starts fast and doesn't let up as it keeps the reader engaged and turning pages in the 10th D.D. Warren novel. I was excited to see Flora Dane return in Never Tell.

A case that looks straightforward with the killer seemingly caught red-handed is anything but as we find out in one plot twist after another

Warren and Dane take different paths in the investigation, setting up a thrilling pay off that will keep you guessing and on the edge of your chair.

A man has been killed and his wife is the prime suspect. What should be an open and shut case becomes a complicated mystery for Boston detective D.D. Warren and her squad. The dead man also seems to have ties to a serial rapist who died six years previously, leaving behind a number of missing women. Obviously, this case is going to be a challenge.

Never Tell has an interesting cast of characters. The story is told from three different perspectives: D.D., the detective, her confidential informant and survivor of a brutal abduction, Flora, and the murder victim’s wife, Evie. In addition to these strong women, there are many supporting cast members who add interest to the story as well as layers to the mystery.

While I enjoyed the characters that have been created, I didn’t enjoy the story quite as much. The entire premise was somewhat unbelievable and unrealistic. There were too many convenient coincidences and, while it all made for an interesting story and even a good plot, they were just too unbelievable for me. With that said, Ms Gardner is a talented writer and I will undoubtedly read more of her books. Never Tell is 3.5 stars for me.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.

Evie comes home one night to find her husband, Conrad, shot three times dead in his study. It isn’t the first time Evie has found a man she loves in her life shot dead. Reacting she shoots 12 rounds into her dead husbands computer and surrenders herself to the police.

Never Tell is a whirlwind of twists and turns between detective D.D. Warren, Evie Carter and a kidnapped survivor turned CI, Flora. Full of thrill, action and mystery, Never Tell was enthralling to the very last sentence.

Great book, hard to put down. NeverTell is one of the best I have read in a long time. A book of secrets and lies between parents, and husband and wife. Another thriller with D.D. Warren and her C.I. Flora Dane.

4.5 stars.

I’ve never read a Lisa Gardner book before this one, so I went into the Detective D.D. Warren series blindly (which I’ve learned you can do, both from interviews with the author and other reviewers), reading this one as a stand-alone novel. And it did not disappoint!

This is a solid thriller that alternates between 3 different female protagonists - and they always keep you guessing. It’s a fast-paced read that will keep you invested through all the unexpected twists, right up until the end!

Can’t wait to read the next one in the series (#11), which I’ve heard is even better!

How does Lisa Gardner continue to grab readers with the emotional connection she does!? Not only are you riveted by the suspense but you WANT to care about how their lives turn out! I feel like I have a whole other family, we’ll just call them My Gardner Family (😜) for now.

I know it is cliché to say (but it’s still true) that I could not put this book down. Luckily, I started this one on a wellness-me-day!

This Woman power packed suspense is about Evie, a woman who looks to have killed her husband and in the process destroyed his computer. D.D. Warren soon realizes that something isn’t right with the obvious circumstances, too obvious, which launches us into the world full of secrets, interesting characters, and expert story development. This book fulfills even the pickiest readers list of must haves!

Best part is you can read this without having read the entire series and not feel like you are missing anything!

3.8/5.0

Even though this is the 10th book of the D.D. Warren series, I was totally able to understand the story without reading the previous books.
And I know there are other books after this one, keeping the story going. I enjoyed the book; the mystery is very good, but I don’t think it tempted me enough to keep reading the series.

Evie is married and she goes home one day to find her husband dead with the gun in front of him. Her husband, Conrad, was at his home office facing his desk when he got killed. Or killed himself? His computer was on the desk and Evie shot it twelve times. From this moment, I was really intrigued to figure out why she did that. What was in his computer that made Evie so desperate to eliminate?

D.D. Warren knows Evie from years ago when Evie’s dad allegedly killed himself with a gun. And guess what? Evie was at the crime scene as well. Back then, D.D. Warren accepted that Evie was a teenager and was not to blame. But now, the story is repeating itself and D.D. Warren isn’t sure about Evie’s innocence.

Flora was held in captivity for over a year, six years ago, until her kidnaper Jacob died. She sees Conrad’s face on the news and immediately recognizes him. She had met him years ago when Jacob introduced Flora to Conrad in a bar. Apparently, Jacob and Conrad were “doing business” and Conrad knew for sure what Jacob was into.
That brings the memories of her horrible past back, but she thinks she can be helpful in Conrad’s case.

Things get even more complicated when Evie’s house is set on fire, destroying the crime scene. D.D. Warren knows there’s way more to this case than she thinks. They must collect all the information they have about Conrad and Evie will find out her husband is not the man the thought he was.

I really liked the mystery and it never got dull. I would read the previous two books to know more about Flora’s story.

So this book is #10 of a series. Going into it I was a little apprehensive being so many books previously that I may have missed information. However that was not the case at all.

The book follows D.D a Detective and Flora her CI. You find out quickly that Flora was abducted at age 20 and spends her time helping others. She is the perfect CI for D.D..

Now you have Evie who seems to have bad things happen around her. And she just seems to be the first the cops look at. She walks into her home and her husband has been shot. But it’s what she’s done after that, that makes the cops suspicious of her.

This book is a well written murder mystery with some not to realistic helpers. However that does not diminish how great this book is.

Thank you NetGalley and Dutton Books for my review copy.

I didn't realize that this book, Never Tell by Lisa Gardner was the tenth book in the series. If I would have known that I wouldn't have requested it. I got confused because there was 9 other books with different plot points that I didn't know about.

My first Gardner. What I liked is that the story, even though not the first in the series was easily read as a stand-alone. Most characters had backgrounds that were easily explained and I loved that it wasn't complicated.

The story was a fun twisty ride. It had had lot of interesting characters - the run of the mill detective and a CI that is definitely broken in their own way. The evil doers, and a twisty mystery that seems to be overlapping everything. Maybe Flora as a CI had too much freedom for me (especially when the detective seemed to trust her judgement more, and gave her more responsibility than necessary) but it kept her involved in the story more.

It was an easy mystery read for me, and I still would love to keep following Flora on her journey. 3.5 rounded up overall.

When it is snowy and cold outside, superspeed readers like me can read 150 - 200+ pages/hour, so yes, I have read the book … and many more today. LOL

I requested and received a temporary digital Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley, the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review.

From the publisher, as I do not repeat the contents or story of books in reviews, I let them do it as they do it better than I do 😸.

#1 New York Times bestseller Lisa Gardner returns with an unpredictable thriller that puts fan favourites D. D. Warren and Flora Dane on a shocking new case that begins with a vicious murder and gets darker from there.

A man is dead, shot three times in his home office. But his computer has been shot twelve times, and when the cops arrive, his pregnant wife is holding the gun.

D. D. Warren arrives on the scene and recognizes the woman—Evie Carter—from a case many years back. Evie's father was killed in a shooting that was ruled an accident. But for D.D., two coincidental murders is too many.

Flora Dane sees the murder of Conrad Carter on the TV news and immediately knows his face. She remembers a night when she was still a victim—a hostage—and her captor knew this man. Overcome with guilt that she never tracked him down, Flora is now determined to learn the truth of Conrad's murder.

But D.D. and Flora are about to discover that in this case, the truth is a devilishly elusive thing. As layer by layer they peel away the half-truths and outright lies, they wonder: How many secrets can one family have?

I freaking love the dynamic duo of D.D. Warren and Flora Dane and all of Lisa Gardner's books - Miss Gardner is a master (mistress?) of thrilling murder mysteries! The story is masterfully crafted and more than once I found myself holding my breath in anticipation of what was coming on the next page. t is a roller coaster ride of crime fiction that needs to be devoured by mystery lovers everywhere.

When it is snowy and cold outside, superspeed readers like me can read 150 - 200+ pages/hour, so yes, I have read the book … and many more today. LOL

As always, I try to find a reason to not rate with stars as I love emojis (outside of their incessant use by "🙏-ed Social Influencer Millennials/#BachelorNation survivors/etc. " on Instagram and Twitter... Get a real job, people!) so let's give it 🎢🎢🎢🎢🎢

Another hit by Lisa Gardner. I love her characters and the plot. This series has kept me reading book after book. It is full of mystery and leaves you wanting to finish the book as soon as you can. It is a hard book to put down. You get hooked right from the beginning and feel like you are on the journey with the main characters.
