Honeymoon in Baghdad by Heidi Radkiewicz is a true story about a couple that in the armed services and were deployed to Baghdad. I learned quite a bit by reading this novel. It explained what it is like to be a soldier in an active conflict far from home. As the novel progresses the couple come closer and closer to the actual war zone. Their division is shot at on a regular basis. The behaviors that are exhibited during war time have made this couple nervous and always looking for problems just like the other soldiers with them. I could feel that tension experienced by this Heidi and Jake as they navigate their way through a war zone in Baghdad. Their stay is extended indefinitely and there appears to be no end in site. The author captures all of this in an easy to read and understand novel. The emotions are raw and honest. I enjoyed reading this novel but I felt at times that i would have liked more details about what was happening . I was also very interested in some of the other soldiers that were mentioned in this novel and would have liked to learn more about them. The title is explained in that the couple were both deployed soon after their marriage. A honeymoon in Baghdad is certainly not something that would be on the top of my list!
