It's 1822, and Sir Robert has developed an abscess in an old war wound. After surgical intervention his old friend and physician insists that Sir Robert leave his home and take himself off with his wife, her sister, the family servants, the doctor and his rather pregnant wife off to Bath to heal in the waters. They meet up with an elderly friend and his family only to have the man expire under suspicious circumstances. That family is beyond awful and soon Sir Robert, Lucy, and the doctor are embroiled in a surreptitious murder investigation which also becomes a search for a contentious will!
I couldn't help but read on until the surprising conclusion!
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Kensington Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

This 6th outing is really the best so far and the ending lets me feels certain there will be a seventh! Woo Hoo! Thanks #NetGalley#CatherineLloy#KensingtonBooks for this ARC which I just devoured.

"On a visit to Bath, Major Sir Robert Kurland and Lady Lucy Kurland discover that the English spa town is not beneficial to everyone's health . . ."

Sir Robert and wife Lucy traveled to Bath to heal any aftereffects of his war wound, on their doctor's advice. Dr. Patrick Fletcher and his wife Penelope and Lucy's sister Anna, and their house staff, round out their entourage. Living right next door is Sir William Benson, his young 2nd wife and sons and stepsons. Sir William introduces himself and the two briefly become fast friends.

The relationship is brief because Sir William meets his death right in the warm water spa and Patrick, who is asked to view the body is sure it is murder. Who the murderer is seems to be the the question as a disappearing will and an odd relationship for the widow complicate the whole issue. Of course Lucy and Sir Robert are called upon to help solve the murder.

Pregnancies of various people also becomes an emerging issue and you will have to order your book now to read at Christmas and find out the whole exciting story!

I found that I needed more series background to enjoy this book.

There was too much backstory that I was missing.

I will try the first in the series and perhaps revisit this novel later.

This gem of a historical cozy mystery series shines in its sixth outing.

Amateur sleuths Sir Robert and wife Lucy have traveled to Bath on doctor's advice so that Sir Robert can regain his health after another bout with the lingering effects of his wounded leg. The couple is on better footing after the events of book five which revealed stressors in the marriage. Once in Bath, Sir Robert becomes acquainted with the blustery, wealthy Sir William who is soon murdered while visiting Bath's legendary hot springs.

Each of Sir William's family members has ample motive for doing away with the difficult patriarch, so Lucy and Sir Robert have their work cut out for them. Red herrings abound as do subplots involving the couple's friends and family members. Lucy is also keeping a secret of her own that will cause readers to anticipate the next book in the series.

The Kurland St. Mary Mysteries are well plotted and pleasurable reads with likable protagonists and supporting characters, a delightful treat for readers.

Full Disclosure--Net Gallery and the publisher provided me with a digital ARC of this book. This is my honest review.
