If you like quirky character driven stories, I was quite entertained by The Age of Misadventure. Sure, the premise was far fetched, but that's what I look for in pure escapist novels. Judy Leigh writes with humor. Her characters are rather strange but very well drawn. I appreciated the situations she dreamed up for them and their individual actions and reactions. I consider this a very light, entertaining, almost gentle read. It took no effort and afforded me a nice afternoon's read. I would read more from Judy Leigh.
I received my copy through NetGalley under no obligation.

I am undecided about this book.
It is very funny in parts, with Nan stealing the show. However, I found the plot a little far fetched and the characters selfish and irritating - it was not a book which gripped me from start to finish.
Having read and enjoyed Judy’s first book I look forward to reading her next. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.

I loved it your everyday business owner, her sister, her aunt and her daughter on the run from sister's husband and some baddies. You'll laugh, hold your breath and really emphasise with these characters. Not what I expected at all!

Based on the blurb I expected to enjoy this book a lot more than I did. The beginning was good and I originally liked the characters of Georgie and Jade. There were some really funny moments through out and it would be a good read for someone who was looking for some mindless escapism. However it drags towards the end and as it’s wrapping up there were some unbelievable plot points. Overall this wasn’t for me.

It was an okay book, but nothing about the characters made me warm to any of them and if anything they were quite irritating and the plot meant you needed to suspend reality for a little while. I know some have loved it and will love it but it really was not for me.

I tried and failed to get into the book. Others feel different. I suggest picking up the book and read a few chapters in the store.

3.5 Stars

Misadventure certainly sums up the zany story-line in this book.

Definitely a story where you need to suspend your belief in reality while reading as this was a completely unexpectedly wild ride.

Somehow multiple generations of one family end up on the run, after Bonnie's husband does one too many dodgy deals, and some really nasty bad guys want some revenge,

I didn't really take to most of the women in this book, but did enjoy Aunty Nanny, who has a habit of not quite using the right words, to some hilarious consequences. Plus she is easily the most fun of the characters and really came into her own.

The last third I was barely able to tear myself away from, as when everything started to heat up and come together, it did it in an addictive style.

Story wise it felt quite original, and the writing was certainly good, I just didn't really gel with most of the characters.

Thank you to Avon and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I really wanted to like this book and I did at first. I liked the characters and the setting. However, parts became tedious. I really didn't think that the mother/daughter relationship was true to life and I thought Adie was a waste of space; his wife was far too limp a character. I'm afraid that towards the end I lost interest and didn't really care what happened to the characters. Parts were quite funny though so at times I did enjoy the humour.

A dysfunctional Family of females having to run away together to get away from a criminal ex husband and the man he ripped off. The characters are mostly nice, except for the daughter who seems to be a spoiled rude brat, but the elderly Nan is a treat. The plot is faily obvious and you just want them to wake up and look at the bracelet, so we think that they are so busy squabbling with each other that they are not very bright. Of course there is some romance, and a conclusion with all the parties coming together to a satisfactory conclusion. A pleasant read.

Judy Leigh’s The Age of Misadventure should come with a warning: do not read this book in public because you will be laughing out loud so much, you could well be arrested for public disturbance. A riotous romp that is absolutely hilarious, The Age of a Misadventure is a delightful comic caper I simply couldn’t stop reading.

Everybody knows that families are complicated and that keeping them together requires military planning and scientific precision. Families are hard work at the best of times – a fact which Georgie Turner knows only too well. All Georgie wants is for her family to be connected and united, but that is becoming increasingly difficult and wearisome as the years go by. Her daughter is growing up fast and is keen on her independence and on doing her own thing as far from her mother’s apron-strings as it is possible to get. Her sister is married to a man whom Georgie simply cannot stand and whom she is determined to keep at a very significant distance from her and then there is her aged aunt who subscribes with alacrity to the adage of growing old disgracefully! Georgie is up against all manner of challenges in her quest to keep her family close, however, when her brother in law places the family in immediate danger, it looks like Georgie is about to get her wish!

Her brother in law is an idiot at the best of times, so when he commits a very serious mistake that places them in jeopardy, Georgie sees this as the perfect opportunity for three generations of Turner women to go on a very unusual road-trip. Sun, sea and industrial quantities of Prosecco are all they require for a good time to be had by all, however, fate seems to have other ideas in store for them…

Will this road trip bring the Turner women closer? Or is it only going to serve to drive them even further apart? And will they manage to stay out of trouble? Mischief does seem to have a habit of following them around…

Fun, feel-good and uplifting, The Age of Misadventure is an absolutely fabulous zesty-paced romp I adored. A madcap tale that will have you giggling from beginning to end, The Age of Misadventure is a hilarious and heartwarming tale about family ties, getting up to no good and living life to the full that I read with a great big smile on my face.

A fantastic novel readers of all ages are going to lap up, Judy Leigh’s The Age of Misadventure is a five star read that I highly recommend.

The Blurb :
55-year-old Georgie Turner doesn’t need a new man. Her daughter, aunt and sister are the most important people in her life (and the most infuriating). But it seems the older they get, the further apart they drift.
Georgie’s never been a fan of her sister Bonnie’s husband, so when she learns her brother-in-law has been up to no good, Georgie sees an opportunity to bring the women of her family back together. Along with her 21-year-old daughter and 80-year-old aunt, she packs Bonnie into the back of her car and they leave Liverpool to hide out on the coast of Sussex. With the help of some sun, sea and bottle or two of prosecco, this will be an adventure they’ll never forget.
But could the right man find Georgie while she’s stopping the wrong man finding her sister?

My Thoughts :
I was huge fan of Judy Leigh’s first book A Grand Old Time, so I was excited to see she had a new release. I just adore this cover on the book not only does it scream summer but its bright, colourful and a book you can read at any time of the year.
We meet Georgie Turner who is a 55 year old divorcee and happily single. Georgie has a daughter named Jade, a sister called Bonnie and their aunt who they call nan. Georgie feels they are all slipping away and getting on with their own lives, When Georgie’s brother in law Adie gets caught up in some nasty business his actions threaten the safety Bonnie when she has to deal with gangsters. Georgie takes it upon herself to take them all away to Brighton to get away from the troubles Adie has left behind. What follows is an adventure of many twists and turns.
Although Judy Leigh’s last book A Grand Old Time is still my favourite this was an enjoyable read. I love reading about older charactors in these books, its a change from the usual run of the mill stories and cast that are below 30 years old, most in this story were over and in their 50s which was very refreshing to read.
I cant wait for the next book released.

The Age of Misadventure by Judy Leigh is a highly entertaining book, that is much different than I expected. I expected a fluffy beach vacation, but this book was so much more. Georgie Turner is 55 years old, who put her family first, as she drives them all to the seaside. Bonnie, Georgie's sister who is married to a cheating jerk, Georgie's twenty-one year old daughter, and her 80 year old aunt. I almost stopped reading this book, because Georgie's daughter was so awful to her, but I am so glad I keep reading. This book has a little bit of everything, romance, humor, and suspense. I recommend this book as a great escape. I look forward to reading more books by this author

I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and the publisher Avon Books UK. Thank you.

The Age of Misadventure by Judy Leigh is a book that made me happy, laugh and also drew me in to the story. Four strong female characters, a dodgy ex-husband, a road trip and a lot of fun along the way and maybe a few surprises. Georgie Turner’s life revolves round her home where she lives with her daughter, runs her beauty business and is near her Aunt Nan. Georgie’s sister, Bonnie is married to Adrian, a philanderer and dodgy business man. After an illegal deal, Georgie convinces Bonnie to leave him, and then her daughter tells her she is moving to Brighton to live with her new boyfriend, Georgie decides a road trip is just what they all need, and it will give her a chance to meet her daughters boyfriend. So to Brighton Georgie, Bonnie, Nan and Jade go, via Edinburgh and Cumbria; hiding from Adrian and his dangerous business associate. Fun, laughter, tears and new beginnings wait for all four ladies.

Georgie may be the main character of this book but for me it was Nan who stole the show. Nan is widowed and until the road trip is confined to her flat with Georgie looking after her and going around several times a week. Once out of the flat she flourishes, starts going out, dressing up more and flourishes as a person. What I really loved was her mispronunciations of words and phrases, frequently inappropriate but hilarious. Georgie, Bonnie and Jade also thrive when away from their lives in Liverpool; Bonnie realises what her husband is really like, Jade gains are independence when she moves in with her professional footballer boyfriend, and Georgie finally starts to open her heart to the possibility of love after her divorce. All four ladies made their way into my heart by the end of the book.

The Age Of Misadventure is a warm, witty and uplifting novel of four women discovering life and how to live it to the full. There is a crime, thrills, love and laughter to keep your attention and make this a compelling read. Well written, with plenty of action, laughs and mishaps that make this such an enjoyable and fabulous read. A brilliant and effervescent read.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the book. This was the author’s second book and it was quite readable. It is about two sisters and their aunt, who are really the main characters and what happens to them. It was an ideal piece of escapism on a wet March weekend.
I adored Nan, who was the older member of the trio and found it quite an entertaining story.

I picked this out for review because it sounded a laugh - it certainly was that, and so much more. There's thrills, laughs, tears (yes from me in the odd place), fear, tension, and loads of other emotions that I fear will be a repeat of the ones I've already mentioned. I felt sorry for Bonnie because she didn't know what her husband was really like, although she was under his spell quite a bit which caused Georgie no end of frustration. I'd hoped that side of the story would provide me with tense moments, what I got was absolutely wonderful!

I loved that even during the most fearful of moments, humour was never far away, especially where it concerned Georgie's aunt who is in a league of her own. Georgie is a bit on the live dangerously/disobey orders that could save her life kind of girl, not that I could blame her because the situation was insane, but I did want to hit her over the head a few times because of her stupidity. If you are told to stay hidden you stay hidden! Initially I thought the road trip was for fun rather than the dangerous turn that it took, but there was plenty of laughs to be had in all the danger that rained down on Georgie and her family.

Her daughter helped Georgie a lot, although in places I thought could be a bit more thankful for what Georgie did, and that Georgie was only trying to keep her safe, but equally I thought Georgie needed to let her daughter do her own thing, even if she thought it wasn't a good idea for her. I lo

I wish so much there will be another book about this family, because their dynamic is pure joy to read, and I didn't want the book to end. Highly recommend it, but make sure you have a few hours free to read it in one sitting so you can find out what happens at the end!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a delight to read. This is the kind of book that makes you smile and laugh until your face aches. It would make an amazing movie. I can picture some well-known elderly actresses in starring roles. This book is fun, feisty and just sheer fun to read. The cover would imply this is a light-hearted romp and it is at times but it is also quite dark at times which I really didn’t expect. The characters are a mixed bunch, some I loved and others I wanted to strangle. They were flawed, dysfunctional at times and totally real, even Nanny, who was the perfect characterisation of the moaning old witch you secretly adore. I really didn’t expect to enjoy this book so much.

This was a great summer light read. Read it one day and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Bit far fetched in places but still so very amusing.
I loved Nan who came across as such a funny lady, old, crotchety yet always speaking as she saw no flies on her. Georgie was great and made the adventure seem so much fun, she loved her daughter Jade and was afraid of letting her start her life without her - the nest was being broken! Bonnie came across as a woolly headed dreamer but gradually over the one became more down to earth.
I loved the book and can’t wait for the next book by Judy.
