Crikey this was a book sensitively written about how to deal with your husband wanting to be with another man. It follows the repercussions, trying to still include them in the family but also finding yourself and who you want to be. You can only imagine how you would feel, but could it end up being the best thing?

Thank you for the advance copy.

The cover of this book makes it look like a somewhat typical romance novel; however, that is not exactly the case. Here is the story of Mary Black. She is a mother who has been married to Leo for twenty years. Her life changes drastically when she realizes that Leo (no big spoiler so I’ll stop even though there is a reveal in the book’s very first paragraph) wants something else. His choices will impact Mary, their children and their lives. What will Mary do? What would you do in her shoes? To what extent will she accept and compromise? Will their be something else for her? Read this one to find out. The pages turn pretty easily.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for this title. All opinions are my own.

A lovely romantic story showing how sometimes what you want is there for the taking you just have to be honest with yourself about what you really want.

I thought this would be a predictable rom-com-esque story and while I wasn’t wrong, it definitely held a lot of secrets and betrayals that threw me for a loop... in a good way! I was honestly so mad at Mary for the majority of the book- the way she let her ex-husband take credit for all of her work- and the fact that even 75% in she still hadn't learned- AARGGHH!! I felt no need for one of the male characters if only to serve as a point of contention between her and her "best friend," which also brought up the pint of why did this woman not have any real friendships except with her ex-mother-in-law? Also the entire plot point with her mom's "lover" was over the top ridiculous. There was just- a LOT going on. I found the most interesting people to be Mrs. Archer and Bridie, who were side characters at best, but had one of the more interest storylines. But our protagonist gets herself together, rebuts everyone else's opinions and learns that she can make it on her own eventually, and I do love a solid HEA.

A good read and interesting to see the family dynamics as the story progresses. You end up rooting for Ethan and hoping he gets his chance at love.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.

This is a story that has the ability to completely suck you in and take you on a bit of an emotional roller coaster. I really began to feel for Mary and how she was trying to deal with the new reality that she found herself in and really felt like I was with her as she tried to figure out the best way to handle it. It was a book that can easily be read within an afternoon and one that is great to take your mind of the real world for a little while.

It was however fairly predictable but after a while I did find myself getting just a little bit, I'm going to go with frustrated with Mary who in the nicest possible way is a bit of a doormat. While I could empathize and understand why she was doing what she was doing, she really needed to stand up and advocate for herself once in a while. I also wish that there had been more of a resolution and not one that was just suddenly done and dusted right at the end. It is a book I would still recommend with four out of five stars.

I loved this novel! It is an entertaining, easy & uplifting read about love and belonging, that I could not put down. It brought a smile to my face and tears to my eyes, this love story with a difference is sure to capture your heart!

Fabulous writing, the whole cast of characters are wonderful in their own ways & leave you feeling alll the feels. This was my first Kate Field but it will certainly not be my last.

It was definitely one of those books that you need to give some time to get it's groove on, because aside from the first few chapters, I quickly found myself engrossed in the story and Field's writing.

Different from what I usually read. I spend more time getting frustrated with the main character rather than having symphathy for her, which was a huge turn-off for me. Other than that, it was an okay-ish book.

Mary's life changes when she finds her husband holding hands with another man. She faces a life of always doing for others and being totally exhausted, which is so relatable. While things were predictable, they were indeed interesting.

I really enjoyed this book and found it difficult to put down. The characters were well written and I liked most but disliked some. I was rooting for Mary right from the start and had real sympathy for the situation she finds herself in. I was hoping throughout that she would get the happy ending she deserves.

I recommend this delightful contemporary novel - perfect as a holiday read or for a cold afternoon on the sofa.

This is an ok modern family saga. I found it very sugar coated and just a bit unrealistic so didn't really enjoy it.

This book is wonderfully uplifting and full fantastic characters that real get you invested in their lives. The pace is great and the writing flows so smoothly its a great story to fly through and what I would say is a brilliant holiday read. The way the complexities of the relationships and family dynamics is so interwoven adn acuurate draws you into the story even more. It's a good portrayal of how our earlier life experiences and childhood childhood relationships can shape us and out future.

Sometimes we do not really know the people who are closest to us. That's the case for Mary Black who after 20 years of marriage discovers her husband is having an affair...with a man.

Rather than wallow in self-pity, she decides to make the best of things including her ex and his new partner at meals, etc.

Then romance comes from an unlikely place.

This was an interesting book to read. Definitely light overall with a little exploration of love coming in many forms.

Mary has a pretty good life, a husband who she has led a good life with, two decent kids, a satisfactory job supporting her husbands' career as a literary expert. It all been....good. But one night she sees her husband holding hands with a man and everything falls apart. As he begins a new life with his new partner Mary has to face life suddenly single. She realises its time to move on but should it be dependable Owen or her ex-husbands' gorgeous brother Ethan? As she struggles with this new life she begins to realise that there's a lot she didn't know about her own past...

I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did! I like the occasional romance but this is a little bit more than that. It's funny and charming, sweet and touching. The characters are believable in their actions and their obliviousness to what is going on around them! It's a perfect summer read.

This was a good book and I enjoyed it. I felt both sorry for Mary, and got quite frustrated with her at times. I won't spoil the story as to whether it came good for her in the end, you will like me be hoping that it does. Interesting supporting characters who you get to know which I always find important in a story

Mary Black and her husband Leo have been living a quiet, happily married life for twenty years. They have two children, their mothers live right next to them and they work together on Leo's lifelong project: researching, publicizing and promoting the late Victorian author Alice Hornby. When Leo announces that he is gay and will be divorcing Mary and marrying his new love, she does her very best to keep everything going, including being Best Woman at the wedding! Mary begins to realize that her life has been rather dull and that she has always been the one to make the sacrifices when they are called for, particularly in her marriage. Once Leo is remarried and moved out, she begins to notice other men, especially Leo's brother Ethan. Ethan has also noticed Mary and the story takes some interesting turns.

This is a well written and very enjoyable book that I strongly recommend. Thank you to Netgalley, the author Kate Field and the publisher Avon Books UK for an ARC in return for my honest review.
