I really enjoyed this book, it was short like a novella and a lot lighter than the usual D.D. Warren stories. It's still a murder mystery but some parts are almost comical.

I am a huge fan of Lisa Gardner and especially, the DD Warren series. I was pleased to see a new book, although being a novella or short story, it did not have the twisting, detailed storyline that I have come to expect. Saying that, this was a quick, fun story. The story is written in two timelines, albeit, twenty-four hours of each other. The actual crime and investigation and DD sharing the story with her husband and having him guess what happened.

A rich man walks into the police station claiming that he is dead. He is adamant, even though the police insist he is very much alive. His wife is called and sends the chauffeur to pick him up. He is returned home, only to end up dead, with a knife in his back a few hours later. This is a locked room mystery, as the only people in the house were his wife, doctor and staff. Can DD and her team determine who the murderer is?

This is a very short story, but Lisa Gardner was able to pen an interesting mystery, introduce some new characters and keep the interest in the DD Warren stories piqued while waiting for the next novel in the series. If you are a Lisa Gardner fan, especially a DD Warren fan, you will want to read this quick story.

I was fortunate to receive this book as an Advance Reader Copy from Netgalley, in exchange for an objective review.

I have long been a fan of Lisa Gardner and the DD Warren series, so I was ecstatic to see this new book – I was quite surprised to see it was a novella – I had been hoping for a full length DD Warren special, but this who-dun-it, was still a lot of fun to read!

It starts off when a man stops by the police station to report his own murder, because he was convinced he was dead. Despite DD and the other Detectives explaining to him that he was very much alive, he remained insistent that this was not the case. After a bit of research, he was released into the care of his family. Then a couple of hours later, they receive a call from the patient’s wife, as her husband has been found dead in bed – with a knife in his back.

A man of family wealth, the victim had been ensconsed in a large home with several caretakers also on the premises, including the chef, the manservant, the gardener, the maid, the driver, and the doctor, along with the victim’s wife. As DD interviews each individual, each story is the same, the victim was generous, respected and loved by his staff. But some inconsistencies come to light…and DD must use her wits to determine who the killer really is…

A quick read from a fabulous author!! Highly recommend!! Can’t wait for more short stories (and long) in the DD Warren series!!

I enjoyed this fast-paced novella about a man with the rare Cotard Syndrome. I love books that involve some sort of medical or psychological disorder, so I was interested. The story-telling here is unique in that the main detective, DD is retelling the case to her husband after a long day, while doing the usual evening household chores and then settling onto the sofa. This is so perfect. Her husband is a crime-scene analyst so who better to go over a case with than him? I loved this. My husband and I are in similar fields and do the same thing and it makes the work fun and there is no one I trust more to give an opinion. This just felt natural to me.
The case itself and the way it works out is in line with a Christie-esque or Clue type of genre. Both are pluses in my book.
Definitely recommend as a quick read and as always I look forward to other books by Lisa Gardner.

As always DD finds her criminal. I look forward to reading Never Tell.

The Guy Who Died Twice is a fast-paced and entertaining short story filled with well-developed and interesting characters and a murder to boot! It is the first work of Lisa Gardner which I have read and will likely not be the last. A good accompaniment for your travels as it was an easy read, it taught me something (seriously, who else has ever heard of Cotard Syndrome?) and was still light-hearted at times. It kept me guessing right to the end and that in itself made it a book I would recommend to my friends. I appreciate the opportunity to be introduced to this writer and will certainly add her to my list to watch for.

This novella was a nice venture into the world of D.D. Warren while waiting for the next full length book. In this one, D.D. tells her husband, Alex, about a strange case. A man comes to them, honestly believing he is dead, and then does actually wind up dead later that day. It was interesting to have D.D. take us through the case and her thought process as she figures out what happened. I always enjoy D.D. and this was an enjoyable story to read!

Warren series and most recently The Next Accident from the Quincy & Rainie series. Lisa Gardner like another one of my favorite authors, Laura Griffin, is expert at blending the action and mystery of crime solving detective work and romance. The female protagonists are often as smart and game as the men and not the shrinking violets who need to be saved as are often an element of romantic fiction. So of course I jumped at the chance to read Lisa's newest effort. So excited I was about this Ebook that I dived right in and didn't know it was a short story. You can imagine my surprise when things started to wrap up fairly quickly :)

The Guy Who Died Twice is told like a classic murder mystery. A strange case, the events take place in a house where all of the suspects are gathered: the deceased man's wife, Doctor and servants. The story is told through Detective D.D. Warren's view as she recounts the case to her husband, Alex (a crime scene analyst) as they are relaxing at home after a hard day's work.

Entertaining and intriguing, Lisa Gardner once again provides a great cast of characters and a mystery that will keep you guessing throughout. Even though it's a short story the characters are well developed and the story moves along at a comfortable pace. The Guy Who Died Twice is a nice layover until Lisa Gardner's next novel.

I am a fan of Lisa Gardner's D.D. Warren series so I was extra to get a quick read. The Guy Who Died Twice was a perfect short story! Lisa always writes amazing books but I will say I was a little nervous because it was a short story but MAN was it AWESOME! It was like a quick little gem that was filled with action, adventure and twists!

Short stories aren't really my thing. Novellas? Same. Or, at least, that has been historically accurate. Lately, either because I'm changing as a reader or have simply been finding the right material, I find myself more and more drawn to short stories. The Guy Who Died Twice had the advantage of being part of the Detective D.D. Warren series by Lisa Gardner, a series and author that I've only recently discovered, but immediately fell heavily in like with.

Whether or not you are familiar with this series or author, if you like a craftily written mystery, this short story is for you. No background info is needed, and the story is really fun and creative. It astounds me how much quality storytelling can be accomplished in a short story. I walked away from this one fully satisfied, quite impressed, and hungry to jump into the next full-length novel in this series.

Started this first thing this morning and wrapped it up quickly. This is a short story involving one of my favorite detectives...D D Warren. In the story, she is telling her husband the events surrounding a very odd case she has been working on....a true "locked room" type of mystery. It is a very clever little story that is classic Lisa Gardner. If you are not familiar with this character or this writer, this short story is a great place to begin. You will really enjoy it! A short story similar to "closed door" type mysteries. D.D. is relaying to her husband the strange case she was presented with at work earlier that day, when her homicide victim first appeared at the station very much alive but insisting he was dead, only to be actually murdered a few hours later. I did receive an advance free copy in exchange for my honest review, and although the premise kept me interested, I did not enjoy it as much as I usually do when reading Ms. Gardner's novels.

This was my first Lisa Gardner story, but it won't be my last. I've been curious about her books for a long time, so I thought I'd start with this short story to give me an idea of whether I would enjoy her writing. I'm not always a big fan of short stories, (I prefer long, complex plots), so I went into this one with an open mind--and consequently, I enjoyed it more than I expected to.

The story takes place in between novels in the D.D. Warren universe. A man arrives at the police station and announces that he's been murdered. The police don't take him too seriously, seeing as how he's clearly still alive. But a few hours later, the man ends up murdered. Soon we learn that the man suffered from Cotards,, a very strange psychological disorder in which the sufferer believes s/he is dead. The list of suspects includes a long list of his acquaintances, including his wife and household staff. When the killer is revealed, we learn a fairly sad and tragic reason behind the victim's death.

This makes for a fun read if you're short on time.

The Guy Who Died Twice by Lisa Gardner is a cleverly told short story featuring Detective D.D. Warren. Although I have read several of Lisa Gardner's novels, and liked them very much, this is the first short story of hers I have read. It has a very "Clue" who-done-it feel. Considering the length of the short story, I think the author did a good job developing the characters. I was able to follow along easily and even up until the end had no clue who did it. It was an entertaining and suspenseful read. Thank you NetGalley, Lisa Gardner, and Penguin Group Dutton Publishing for my free e-copy of this book.

Wow this book was awesome! A real page turner. This book is what you call a edge of your seat Thriller!

I am not usually a fan of short stories because I feel like I didn’t get the whole story. The Guy Who Died Twice was actually the perfect length. I was so excited to know I wouldn’t have to wait days to figure out the mystery. And all loose ends were tied up by the end. Great way to spend an afternoon!
