An interesting book to dip into, accessible and user-friendly. However, it came across as a little superficial - i.e. if you have more than a passing interest in this subject I'm not sure it would have enough depth for you. A handy reference book and interesting to analyse the dream about going back to school (just before a school reunion) or being late for a train (after a day of dreadful travel!) |

Found this a very interesting read, I often have strange dreams and I thought this was a fascinating read. Thank you netgalley. |
I've always had rather strange dreams. In the past I've bought dream dictionaries, but they lack information that this wonderful version and out so simply. Most dream dictionaries only have the figures or items that appear and their possible interpretation. This book actually shows you how to interpret a dream and how to identify what is the symbolic items within it. It's brilliant, well written and explained. |
The Curious Dreamer's Dream Dictionary is a good starting point when you want to start interpreting what signs, symbols, and objects may mean in your dreams. This book serves more as a reference guide to look up different dream subjects than a simple book to read straight through. I've been working to interpret my own dreams for years, and so I used this book to see what it would say about one of the most common themes in my dreams--the bathroom. Sometimes the dream is having difficulty finding a bathroom, or finding it in shambles once I get in there, or the worst of all--having sinks and toilets so tall that they are beyond my reach. This guide did pretty well in seeing the same interpretations I see in these symbols. However, there are a lot more obscure symbols (thyroid and wombat, for example) explored in this book and some of the more common themes are lumped together in too-wide umbrella topics. It's a good start to get you thinking, but so vague as to fit everyone that you would be better served taking the time to analyze your dreams on you own. |
I knew I had to check this out the moment I read the title. I am an avid believer that our dreams mean something more than just a running mental show while we sleep! I also have quite interesting, imaginative dreams- and who knows where the inspiration behind them comes from. I read through the informational part of the dream dictionary, which holds a vast majority of information about why we dream, what we dream about, and how anything can be interpreted but the important thing to remember about interpretation is to focus on the overall theme or "big picture". It's very instructive and gives plenty of examples to practice on. Then I had fun with the dictionary. First I looked up words that were associated with the dream that I had the night before, and then I just swiped through the pages, reading words that caught me eye. Each description is a very thorough interpretation, and not just a flimsy "it could be this". Very impressed, overall, and excited to put the copy to use with future dreams! Great information in order to interpret your dreams as a means of resolving conflict between the conscious life and deep rooted subconscious thoughts. I have always felt that dreams were a way of resolving issues and inner conflict and the author explains how to use dream - objects, activities participants, to do so. I have other dream books but this one is written conversational and is easily understood. . Many thanks to the author, Books Go Social ,and NetGalley for the ARC for an honest review. The opinions expressed are my own. Hope you enjoy and find as interesting as I did. |
Ever since I can remember I have nightmares. Sometimes so many that I wake up exhausted. But what to do? I'm not a bad sleeper, on the contrary. Well, this book provided me with a better insight in myself. Why I have these 'toxic dreams' and what I could do about it. I will not say this book 'cured' me of my dreams, but having a better understanding already helps a lot. Plus, the book is very well written and interesting and a please to read even for people who do not have terrible dreams - there are lots of nice dreams that try to tell you something too. Thank you BooksGoSocial and Netgalley for this book. |
Informative book on how to interpret your dreams. The author tells you step by step on how to pick apart your dreams, then has a dictionary to decipher what each object or thing means. I've used a dream dictionary since I was 16. This one is more in depth then the one I had. Glad I got to update. Huge thanks to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to review the book! So far the book has predicted my dreams pretty accurately!!! |
Thank you BooksGoSocial and Netgalley for this ARC in return for my honest review. This book helps the reader learn how to use symbols in their dreams to put meaning into their life. The book had good information and was informative. I used this book this morning to interpret last nights dream meaning. Over the years I have used many dream dictionarys and while the information in this one was good I found it very clunky to use and ended up giving up finishing my dream interpretation. For example I searched for yellow but i could not get a link to take me to yellow directly, only to derivatives of yellow. eventually after a few unsuccessful searches I just scrolled to end of book and found it where it should be! Perhaps reading this as a hard copy book would be a more enjoyable option. Overall the content was good but this was let down by the ease to use. I rate this book 3.5 stars. Thank you for the opportunity to review this book. |
Am so glad I got this book, the author explained in detail how to use this book to help you understand how to interpret your dreams and your personal meaning of them. Because the meaning of our dreams is more than just the obvious, I can’t wait to use this to interpret all my dreams...... a great book to have in your collection |

This book you won’t need to read from the first till last page. You wake up and you find the key dream words in the dictionary (if you remember the dream, of course.). I don’t think it’s exactly easy to find the meanings behind the dreams, there many of them for each symbol, but I just can’t wait to analyze more of my next dreams. |
The Curious Dreamer 's Dream Dictionary Pretty much has all in one and how to really interpret dreams. Very informative. Thanks to NetGalley for an advance read for opinion. |
I have needed a dream dictionary, for my writing and also for the occasional dream that I want to analyze. The guide is meant to accompany and enhance "The Curious Dreamer's Practical Guide to Dream Interpretation" but it also works well as a standalone.
When the author mentioned that the book's style is intended to make it easy to read and understand, I was extremely happy to see how right she was. The guide is organized into 3 sections followed by an index of symbols:
Part 1: How to Find Dream Symbol Meaning
~Tips and into to help start the process and also make the most out of this book~
Part 2: Symbol Categories
~Similar symbols are grouped together such as~
Emotions, colors, people, activities, animals, objects
Part 3: Symbols
~Over 1500 descriptions and possible meanings~,
Part 4: Symbol Index
~Comprehensive list (including additional names)~
In addition, a later chapter provides links to useful sites. I would recommend this to writers (this guide makes injecting your writing with symbolism a breeze) and anyone interested in dream interpretation.

Wow, this book is really detailed with a lot of information of what your dream's might mean. I will use it for now on when I want to know what my dream meant. Check it out! |
For quite some time my partner and I have shared our dreams and made some half-hearted attempts to understand what they mean. Honestly, it has been more of a humorous endeavor than one designed to provide any useful insights. Without any kind of guide, we've just made up some pretty funny interpretations(that no one else would probably think were even mildly amusing). Last year I started to casually look in bookstores for some type of dream interpretation guide to see if maybe we could actually learn something( and not just crack up after sharing our wacky dreams). This book was a very informative read and quite easy to follow. There is an alphabetical symbols section that lets you look up things that happened in your dream. Whether your dream included a cake, a crow, or a dog, there is a paragraph describing the meaning as well as a “See also” suggestion(an example for Dog would be Animal, Pet, Wolf, Coyote, and Fox). Once I identified the major symbols in my dream, it was interesting to look up the various symbols, almost like putting together puzzle pieces. I am looking forward to referring to this guide in the future to see what I can learn about myself. A good reference guide( there are over 1000 symbols) if you have any interest in dream interpretation. I received a DRC from Books Go Social through NetGalley. |
A little confusing to understand wish it was more direct. Found better information elsewhere and easier to read |
The author managed to fit a lot of information in an easy to navigate book. I have read a lot of books on dreams, but found that this one included information I had not heard before. |
To be able to consult a well established source to unlock the hidden meanings of the musings in our heads as we slumber is something we all seek. The author has encapsulated a wide range of meanings and circumstances to uncover the answers to our dreams whether they be recurrent, sudden or of the nightmare variety. Alphabetically ordered there are fifteen hundred symbols to choose from to recognise the dreams meaning. For example if you continuously had a dream about water then you would look up the water symbol and how that correlates to your life. Just like piecing a puzzle together each relevant to your dream can be unravelled with meanings as you put your puzzle together. The solid examples of how to interpret your dreams & the symbols is easily followed and simply formatted for ease. Dream interpretation is subjective however I found this to be one well rounded & stocked resource for my dream interpretation. 4 stars Many thanks to BooksGoSocial and Netgalley for an arc copy in exchange for an honest review. The author's stated purpose of this valuable book is for the reader to be able to unlock the hidden meaning of dreams. They're just sitting there waiting. The answers derived from that can be a life-changing experience. This well-written prose offers many explanations and answers to the messages contained within our dreams. Confusion cast aside, the information was presented in an easy-to-read order. I recommend that consulting this book would be well worth anyone's time. It will serve as my bedside resource for dream interpretation. Many a time I've awoken from a seemingly psychedelic dream. Taken as they are, they make little sense. The main storyline, if there is one typically seems to run amok. Usually what's remembered are the bits and pieces of it - the fragments that stand out - the clues. These are the symbols that lead to the true meaning. Interpreting symbolism within a dream is the first step to recognition of what it is trying to tell you. It's like putting a puzzle together. With the right tools, it can be done. In friendly alphabetical order, there are over fifteen hundred symbols to choose from. For example, if you remember a dog being in your dream, then simply look up 'dog'. From there you will find examples of how it may interrelate within your life. That's a starting point. It could also be a trigger point. It might lead you to remember running. Go to 'running'. Now it's beginning to come together. It's that simple. You'd be surprised the information you could glean from this tutorial. I offer my thanks to NetGalley and BookGoSocial for this ARC in exchange for an unbiased review. |
