He Is Watching You is a must read for the year. I have found a new favorite author. I could not put down this book. Great writing and characters. |
"He Is Watching You" eBook was published in 2018 and was written by Charlie Gallagher (https://www.writercharliegallagher.com/). Mr. Gallagher has published ten novels. This is the first in his "Detective Maddie Ives" series. I categorize this novel as ‘R’ because it contains scenes of Violence. The story is set in contemporary England. The primary character is DS Maddie Ives. Ives has spent most of her police career as an undercover officer. Now that her identity has possibly been revealed, she has been posted to Canterbury to keep her safe from retribution. She is assigned to missing persons and reluctantly begins to dig into her new position. Her first case is for a missing woman who is known to disappear on drunken binges. DI Harry Blaker is working Major Crimes in Canterbury and is called in on a hit-and-run. He and Ives begin to collaborate believing that there may be a connection between missing persons and the hit-and-run. The murderer has planted cameras so that he can watch the bodies of his victims. He is surprised to discover that one isn't dead yet. He must finish her. He already has his next victim selected. Soon Blaker and Ives find themselves in a race to find the murderer before it is too late for his latest victim. I thoroughly enjoyed the 9.5 hours I spent reading this 380-page mystery. I like the characters and plot of this novel. I look forward to reading more in this series. The cover art is OK but could be tied more to the plot. I give this novel a 4.5 (rounded up to a 5) out of 5. Further book reviews I have written can be accessed at https://johnpurvis.wordpress.com/blog/. My book reviews are also published on Goodreads (https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/31181778-john-purvis). |
Thankyou to NetGalley, Joffe Books and the author, Charlie Gallagher, for the opportunity to read a digital copy of He Is Watching You in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion. I thought this book provided a good, quick, chilling read. I was hooked from the start and enjoyed the rollercoaster ride of a storyline. Would definitely be reading more from this author. Worth a read. |
Wow! An exciting new crime series featuring Detective Maddie Ives! I use the word exciting because I AM EXCITED to have discovered this author, Charlie Gallagher! Character developments- Mr. Gallagher introduces us to detectives Maddie and Harry, and he superbly develops their character. They are fully fleshed out, to be dynamic , well developed , round characters. I can see them in my mind’s eye;- so real they seem! Theiir dialogue and actions are true and authentic to their character. Both are likeable and play off one another with clever banter. I can’t wait to visit with them in future installments! Plot - Fast paced and intriguing! I was never bored because there was plenty of action and suspense as the mystery is unraveled. Climax- Riveting! Denouement- Satisfying....very much so! All threads tied together and explained! Summary - I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK! |
What a great book! I was very excited to get a chance to read this book. I was so impressed with this author and this book. I loved every minute of it! I will look for more books from this author! *This book was given to me for free at my request from Netgalley and I provided this voluntary review.* |
I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. OMG SO FREAKING GOOD! He Is Watching You was such a good thriller. It kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. This book has three point of views, no I wont tell you their names but it's the detective, killer, and victim. The flow from each pov just kept me engaged. I honestly couldn't put this book down and I kind of yelled at my phone sometimes. Like no, don't talk to strangers buddy. If he's acting strange just leave because you will probably end up dead. The detective was an okay kind of character in my opinion. I don't really understand how they go from learning the basics of a computer to getting on this case. Seemed a bit weird but eventually I got invested. The there's the killer, and boy did they deliver. This character is so smart, or maybe they are only trying to act like it.. but I had no idea they put a camera above the container. Maybe I scanned over it without paying attention.. but this character definitely kept me on my toes. It also probably doesn't hurt that my guessing game sucks ass. Overall, I loved this book so much that I already can't wait to dive back into. The creepiness of this whole thing took me to a new level. I will probably end up having nightmares about what this killer did but damn, did I enjoy it. |

I loved the storyline and I cared about the characters. I will be reading more by this author and highly recommend this book. |
"I was left gasping for breath more than once when the story was moving along at a breakneck speed...As always, there are Mr. Gallagher's trademark high-octane, adrenaline-fueled, loop-de-loop, in-your-face action sequences to keep the reader glued to the pages." A absolute home run thriller that will have You ravaged for more ! |
This book I found myself trying to compare to his other books I enjoyed instead of trying to let it in for it's own merits. I just couldn't get really into this book and I hate that as his writing style is good. |
He Is Watching You is my first book by the author. Detective Maddie is given a desk job for her safety after her cover is blown. She is soon involved in something more, of course, because she isn't happy with a desk job. Will she be safe? Maddie is likeable and strong. The plot is engaging and compulsively readable. Mystery thriller fans will love. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review. |

If you enjoy atmospheric police procedural novels that have great characters (both good and evil), virtually non-stop action, and a plot containing plenty of twists and turns, then I expect you will enjoy 'He Is Watching You'. This is one of the best crime thrillers I have read recently. I read it in just two sittings as I found myself glued to the story and needing to find out how it would end ... and the ending did not disappoint. The writing is crisp and taut and there are a number of aspects of the novel that struck me as being very authentic; the various locations featured in the story, the way the police investigation develops, how the police speak to each other, etc. In this respect, the glossary at the back of the book helps explain some of the abbreviations and slang that is used in the telling of this tale. There are some gruesome passages that had me wincing as I read them but they are not excessive and they certainly enhance what is already a very dramatic story. It takes a little while to warm to the character of D.S. Maddie Ives but I think this may well have been the intention of the author; certainly by the end of the novel I wanted to read more stories featuring D.S. Maddie Ives and D.I. Harry Blaker, as well as other books by Charlie Gallagher. So if you are looking for a gripping, action-oriented, crime story, featuring some great characters, then I recommend you take a look at 'He Is Watching You'. |
(Rounded up from 4.5) Maddie Ives is an undercover police officer in Manchester but after an operation goes bad and she is pulled out and shipped down south. Her new boss is less than impressed with her and assigns her to missing persons. The report of a young woman is brought to her attention, a case which other officers had dismissed but something about it makes Maddie uneasy. DI Henry Blaker is assigned hit and run case, was it an accident or murder? Soon Maddie and Blaker’s cases will collide with deadly consequences. So this a new series from Charlie Gallagher featuring new detectives Maddie Ives and Henry Blaker. What a fantastic, action packed police procedural this is! There are so many great twists and nail biting scenes. Do start this book before bed because I guarantee it will keep you awake! As with several books I’ve read lately, Charlie Gallagher is a serving police officer and it really shows with little details to add to the authenticity of the story. I absolutely loved the two new characters! Maddie is a strong willed, so used to doing as she pleases, it’s a bit of a culture shock for her having to fit into a team and to do the job she’s been assigned. Henry Blaker is a grumpy and experienced detective, with a bit of a temper but he is the only one who seems to see the potential in Maddie. The way they interact and their relationship really make this book. My only issue was the start of the book felt a little disorganised. There are several different viewpoints and new characters which, at first, I didn’t really understand how they related to each other but Charlie Gallagher cleverly intertwines the narrative to make a fantastic story. He is watching you a must for fans of police procedurals with strong female leads. |
Very good murder mystery that kept me gripped throughout the story. The girl in the container is what I would have called it ! Look forward to reading more from this author. |
