Mean Girls is an absolute cult classic film and personally one of my all time favourites, and now Ian Doescher (author of the Shakespearean Star Wars books) has made it his own and Shakespearised it. If you haven't seen Mean Girls (I'm shocked that I'm still meeting people who haven't seen it) then here's the story...

Cady Heron, our heroine, moves from Africa where her parents were research zoologists to North Shore High where she has no understanding of life as an American teenager. After struggling to find her place in the school's hierarchy she's eventually befriended by outcasts Janis and Damien who warn her to fear The Plastics - three girls at the absolute top of the popularity food chain. When by chance Cady is invited to have lunch with The Plastics she's encouraged by Janis to infiltrate their elite group. What ensues is drama, political intrigue and a case of star-crossed lovers, absolutely everything William Shakespeare himself was a huge advocate for.

This book was hilarious, told in Elizabethan/Shakespearean English with a blend of Tudor culture with 2000's technology for here we have 16th/17th century Ladies and Sirs all using phones and going to the mall.Bar the language, there are very few differences between this Shakespearean tragedy and the original movie but it was great fun to see how the wealth of super quotable one-liners that Mean Girls boasts becomes Shakespearised - some are perhaps even more quotable than the their modern counterparts.

If you're looking for a quirky gift for a Mean Girls fan (or if you fancy putting on the play) then you must pick this book up. Super fun and easily readable in an hour or so.

What a fantastically funny read. I didn't really like the William Shakespeare Star Wars books, I couldn't get into them, but here the style seemed to fit perfectly. My only regret is that I couldn't source the movie itself to watch; I think a readalong would have been amazing. Ah well, next time it's on!

Much Ado about Mean Girls is just about what you'd expect it to be. It's a retelling of the movie Mean Girls written in a Shakespeare-like play format. I didn't study too much Shakespeare, so I can't really measure the writing to his typical writing style. This is a fun little script. I think it'd be great to see performed rather than just reading.

I've been a fan of both Shakespeare and mean girls so I assumed I would like this. It was slightly disappointing to be honest.
Many lines were ripped straight from other plays which jolted you out of the storytelling. It was cleverly written and did have the Shakespearean feel but it did feel a little flat.

This book is hysterically funny. If you love Mean Girls and Shakespeare, this is a perfect union of the two. I laughed until I cried. There were no parts of the original missing. While reading, I was able to visualize the story the way it would have been in the 16th century; on stage. Seeing it in your mind's eye makes the tale that much better. The way Doescher blends the world of The Plastics with Shakespearean flair is flawless.

This is not the kind of book I'd usually put on my list, but I'm (tentatively) adding it to the list the youth can choose from for two reason: humor & the reference to classics. A great way for my kids to get a little glimpse at Shakespeare (especially for those who would never touch it otherwise).

As a superfan of Shakespeare and Mean Girls, this book was very enjoyable! Ian Doescher writes the script of Mean Girls by Tina Fey as if the Bard himself may have written it. The language is very well done and fun to read, adding the Shakespearean style of sharp wit to the snarky vibes of the Plastics. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun read.

I knew what to expect, and got what I expected. It’s funny in parts, is a nice reimagining of Mean Girls as a Shakespeare play, and would make a great gift for a fan of the two. The ARC was unreadable in part due to the formatting, meaning the speech didn’t marry up with the speaker, but luckily I’ve watched Mean Girls enough to figure it out.

I loved this book! What a way to marry a familiar, modern day story and Shakespeare's knack for description. Students will love reading something familiar in a new way. And those students who are already familiar with Shakespeare will get a kick out of this retelling. I can't wait to purchase a copy to share with my classes.

Unfortunately my arc copy was unreadable as the different parts of the play were unattributed and all the attributions were above each act. If I were more familiar with Mean Girls, I might be able to make it work, but alas I have only a passing familiarity. I will try to read it when it's published. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S MUCH ADO ABOUT MEAN GIRLS is pretty much what is says on the tin. Don't expect anything new or revolutionary. If you've read WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S STAR WARS, you pretty much know what to expect: a remix of iambic pentameter and snippets of famous monologues. Don't get me wrong. The novelty of reading all of our favorite lines reimagined in Early Modern English is delightful. It could be a useful tool for engagement in a Shakespeare unit. But don't expect it to stand up to the beauty of the bard himself.

Mean Girls is a movie that is a classic among women my age that really impacted their adolescent lives. Reading the story in the times of William Shakespeare was very entertaining. There were alot of familiar scenes transformed into Shakespearian times and a lot of our readers will find this very amusing and interesting that they will not want to stop reading it. This is a wonderful adaptation of a classic Shakespeare tale and a modern movie celebrating their 15th anniversary of its release. An interesting and entertaining adaptation.

We will definitely consider this title for our YFiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

Amusing and witty but occasionally a little tedious. Not sure itXs the best in this series of Shakespeare/ modern story mash ups. There were several real pearler lines though that had me laughing out loud. Recommend for Shakespeare nerds and those who like their humour intelligent.
