This is an interesting evaluation of the current US economy from a European perspective. It highlights the current ills besetting the US including the dominance of corporate interests in the political and economic process.

According to the author, politicians are more interested in representing their corporate donors than constituents. He demonstrates that the so-called 'free market' advocated by the neo liberals (such as Alan Greenspan) is an illusion. He demonstrates how low minimum wages force workers to apply for welfare which is subsidized by tax payers, so in effect, tax payers are subsidizing large corporations. The corporations book their profits overseas to avoid paying US taxes to cover the infrastructure and local costs they should be paying, and instead use their wealth to influence politicians. The author cites staggering statistics to support his thesis, such as Walmart workers being subsidized by tax payers to the tune of 152 billion USD per year.

The book is worth reading as it has some very interesting and valid comparisons of the US and EU economic approach. However, it is a bit repetitive in places as of the some of the sections overlap.

I thought this rather laid it on the line of what the politicians are doing to the nited States. Talks about the social programs, poverty and a look at it all from the eyes of someone who has lived in and experienced another government. We need to make changes.
