Between the Lies by Michelle Adams
Chlo was in a horrendous car crash that apparently killed her husband and son according to her family. Unfortunately for Cloe she had a head injury among others and does not remember anything, not the crash, not her life before the crash not her family...... nothing. Bits and pieces are starting to come back to her and her family are filling in some parts of it but are they being truthful with her? This was a slow building psychological thriller that may have been a bit predictable at times but still worth picking up and reading. Thank you Netgalley and St Martin's Press for this book and letting me leave my honest opinion. I would give this 3.5 stars out of 5.

When Chloe Daniels wakes up in the hospital, she has no memory. She doesn’t remember the car accident that put her there. She doesn’t remember what happened to her son or husband. And she doesn’t remember the individuals standing in front of her claiming to be her parents and younger sister. But then, a head injury like she had can do that to you.

As the weeks go by, and Chloe struggles to remember anything about herself, about her past life, about the night that changed everything, she has to use all her strength just to figure out the truth from lies. Little by little, she remembers moments. Some are in line with what her parents are telling her happened . . . and some aren’t. But her dreams are vivid, and she’s convinced that there is a part of her that knows the truth. She just has to find a way to connect all the dots and the truth can set her free.

Michelle Adams’ slow burn thriller Between the Lies is a complicated story. There are those who are lying to Chloe to try to protect her, and there are those who are lying to Chloe to try to influence her, and she is alone in her fight to get to the truth. There were times it was hard to read because of all the manipulation. The writing itself was beautiful, but the story was painful. It was enjoyable, but not the fantastic thriller I was hoping for.

Chloé is rescued from an accident but the trouble is, she now has amnesia and everyone is lying to her! The start of this book was gripping but that didn’t last and the pace slowed down and never really got going again. It was obvious who the villain of the piece was and it was just a case of reading on till the “lovely” Chloé remembered enough. What a family and as for the professionals, well they weren’t! I loved the description and cover but sadly the story sort of fizzled out after the great start.

What I liked: Chloe had no memory of the accident that put her into the hospital when the book opened, so getting to experience her quest to find out the truth was intriguing. The back-and-forth on whether or not she could trust her psychologist father was also an interesting part of the story.

What I didn’t like: The pace felt slow to me, and there were too many “gotcha!” moments. The author worked really hard at trying to throw in twists, but playing with Chloe’s memory became too much for me. I think this lessened the power of the climactic ending because I felt like I’d already experienced a ton of twists within the novel.

Overall, this book was good, not great. I liked it but don’t think I would be interested in reading it again.

What happens when you wake up one day in the hospital and do not know how you got there? Even worse, you do not even know who you are? Chloe woke up in a hospital surrounded by people and did not have a clue who they were, even though they claimed to be her family. She goes home with them and everything feels...off. In fact, she starts to believe they are lying to her and things are not as they should be. As she begins to recover from the tragic accident she was involved in, she begins to realize that her life was not what she would have thought--and neither is her family. Between the Lies took off fast and drew me down a crazy maze of "who dun it" mixed with "what the @#$% just happened??" I spent so much of the book getting more and more angry and Chloe's family--especially her father--because it was obvious they were lying from the get-go. I cannot wait to read more by Michelle Adams!

Not my favorite so I won’t be sharing a full review. I found it predictable and boring and I actually struggle to finish it.

I am sorry for not reviewing fully but I don’t have the time to read this at the moment. I believe that it wouldn't benefit you as a publisher or your book if I only skimmed it and wrote a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for not fully reviewing!

This book was interesting. Perfect read for the summer months. As an avid psychological thriller reader, I found the twists a bit obvious. It was still fun to read.

Brief Summary: Chloe regains consciousness from a coma in a hospital with no recollection of how she got there, who her family is, or her previous life. As her memory comes back in pieces, she begins to suspect that the people closest to her are keeping secrets and lying to her.

Highlights: this premise from me back to my days as a resident on a traumatic brain injury rehabilitation unit. With most patients having memory issues, we had to be very careful about what we divulged of their past and let them regain memories on their own, especially if there were legal issues involved. It was also very interesting to me as a clinical psychologist, that her father was a psychiatrist who tried to get her to do psychotherapy with him which is incredibly unusual not to mention brings up ethical conflicts. I had never heard of reconsolidation theory before. Despite my contrary experience, this made for quite an interesting read. I couldn’t stop turning the pages and easily finished it over a weekend. It’s pretty creative and kept me guessing until the very end.

What makes this book unique? While characters with memory loss has become quite a popular premise, this has been my first read on the topic, so it’s hard to say what sets it apart.

Explanation of Rating: 4/5 some of the unrealistic aspects of the novel docked this rating for me.

This is a quick and easy and enjoyable read. Perfect for fans of psychological thrillers.

I enjoyed this read (after being in a "psychological thriller" rut for awhile). It covered every base and more.
Well-constructed plot, well paced and with a more than a few twists to keep you drawn into the book.

What a deliciously creepy premise! Chloe is in a car accident, the after effect of which is amnesia. She has no memory of her prior life. Her parents take her back to their home, but don’t tell her much at all about her life and refuse to let her visit her own home or even leave their grounds. What are they trying to hide from her?

The book definitely grabbed me. My mind was coming up with all different reasons Chloe’s family seems determined to keep her from the truth. Which one, if any, was the correct one? Are they protecting her from herself or someone else?

There’s something terrifying about the prospect of waking up and not remembering anything your life, which is why so many mystery/thrillers start with this premise. Between the Lies is an example of when this set-up works well, complete with some shocking twists that unfold slowly and deliberately.

The basic premise is that Chloe Daniels wakes up after a terrible car accident with no memory of anything - her family, her life, etc. She goes to her parents’ house to recover, but has a feeling that something is not right. Her family acts strangely around her, and she can’t understand why they demand she stay in the house all the time. Soon, shocking secrets begin to surface and Chloe has no idea who she can trust - including her own mind.

This book really has a great atmosphere and an amazing pace which adds to the suspense. As each new revelation comes out, it fills in a new piece to the puzzle and a new layer to the story. And there are some doozies - some things I definitely never saw coming. However, I will say that I guessed the “bad guy” before it was officially revealed, but I don’t feel like that detracted from the story because there were a lot of questions that needed to be resolved to get the full picture.

I can’t say that I loved the decision that Chloe made at the end, but it seemed realistic. Like your friend that makes bad decisions, so you just shake your head and move on. Plus, Chloe cant even trust herself - her memories come back slowly and she only gets flashes of things, which means she can’t even trust herself. That’s a tough situation to be in.

Overall, this book was an amazing suspense-filled journey through the mind. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves suspense-thrillers and mind-trips.

As she recovers, her family begins to share details of her life but she feels they are holding something back. Are they who they say they are? Is she who they say she is? Chloe's determination to uncover the truth will have devastating consequences. Adams manages to keep the reader as much in the dark as Chloe is and slowly reveals to both the real nature of Chloe's life. An excellent psychological thriller.

Very interesting psychological thriller. The story was unique and it kept my interest throughout even though I had some of the major players figured out halfway through. I was a bit shocked by some of the family dynamics and I really hated Chloe’s father more than any other character.

It was a good mystery/ thriller and I’d check out this author again.

Creepy and delicious! I loved the premise and the story didn't let me down. I found myself trying to follow the twists and turns. Tried to guess why Chloe's family was hiding the truth.

I liked that it was from Chloe's view, plus the unknown character.

However, even though I found it enjoyable, the beginning was far stronger than the ending. The ending was almost over the top and detracted from the overall enjoyment.

Chloe wakes up in the hospital not remembering anything about herself , her life or even the accident that caused her to be in the hospital. As she starts to remember things everything is not as it seems. This book will keep you interest in Chloe's story and the mystery of what happened to her. A decent read definitely kept me up all night!

I enjoyed this book. A very twisty story with an unreliable narrator, this novel is a roller coaster of a journey.

Is it a blessing or a curse to loose ypur memory? You trust your family to do whats best for you and to tell you the truth?. This book kept me thinking and I was wrong with all my guesses! Great read!!

While I really enjoyed the premise behind <I>Between the Lies</I>, the actual execution fell short of my expectations.

When Chloe woke up from a horrific car accident with no memory, the opportunities were endless for this book. As I read along in the beginning, I felt her anxiety and mistrust for everyone around her. Once she started having dreams and what she though was memories coming back, I thought I was in for a really thriller treat. But then things got choppy. And not just the kind of choppy that you could attribute to a character with amnesia. I got bored and annoyed. I still even feel like I'm left with some unanswered questions which leaves me unsatisfied.
