This book is a gift so I'm glad I waited until I was in the right mood to receive it. I found a kindred spirit in the words and was left with a feeling of hope and validation. The title, Love Looks Pretty on You, captures the essence of the book. It was distinctly feminine without any of the negative connotations I associate with modern feminists. My two favorite quotes are "Don't stay where you are needed. Go where you are loved." and "The less you speak, the more weight your words will carry when you do." The one poem I related to most is titled "Something Else". In it, the poet talks about the impossibility of feeling only one emotion at a time. Anyone who knows me would agree that this applies to me as well. I simply loved it!

I was provided this ARC review copy by the wonderful website that is NetGalley. I recently found Lang Leav’s poetry at the recommendation of a friend and I’m so glad I did.
When I read poetry collections, I like to read a few poems each time I sit down with it. I can’t just read the whole thing in one sitting. I just feel like I don’t get the full effect of the words being shared.
With that being said, I read this in three sittings. I just enjoyed the poems so much that I had to force myself to put it down each time I was reading.
They were uniquely written, with ample use of prose. I just felt some of them right in my soul. Some were relatable while others spoke to me on a level I didn’t know I needed.
I definitely recommend this collection to anyone that is a lover of poetry. This collection is full of growth and love and just all of the emotions, done wonderfully.

The latest book of poetry by Lang Leav is every bit as wonderful as her previous books. I am a fan of Leav’s for her ability to make poetry accessible. She once again explores past love with this collection of poems, but she also delves into self-love through poems written to herself. I was able to relate to many of her passages. I have recommended her poetry books in the past, and I wholeheartedly recommend Love Looks Pretty on You.

I am ;providing an honest reviewing through Net gallery.

Unfortunately, i can only give a partial review because my computer un-downloaded it and now its "missing". I got more than half way through.

There were quite a few poems in there which resonated with me and the language was beautiful. however there were others i didn't feel so connected to. Maybe just due to the structure or something, or were just hard to read or distant.

3.5 stars

Full disclosure: "Love Looks Pretty On You" is actually my first read from poet Lang Leav. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was lured in by the beautiful cover and subject matter. And I enjoyed sitting down for a spell to digest these poems.

Some poems are simple thoughts, afterthoughts, and one-liners. Others are more complex musings and lessons learned in love, heartbreak, and womanhood. Most of my favorite poems center around these themes, so I will say quite a few poems evoked certain emotions within me. A few gave me things to ponder or made me reminisce on past loves.

Other poems, however, left me needing and expecting more. Though I found myself underwhelmed at times, I still found this book of poetry to be a treat.

I look forward to reading more from Lang Leav and will most likely read her other works to become more familiar with her writing style.

Thank you to Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

Love Looks Pretty on You by Lang Leav is an easy yet powerful read. The mix of poems made the time fly by while reading. For me, the poets writing style and her way she strings together ways produced so beautiful lines. The book is filled with the encouragement of moving on and being yourself, and with that, the right people will come to you. A few of my favorite poems from this book is Anxiety, Woman's Anthem, Saltwater and more but Write for Yourself is my favorite, I'm going to print that off and hang it up. It's a delight, with significant meanings!

"Be patient. Your voice will find its way into the world, not in one loud instance but a steady trickle that turns into a deluge."

This isn't my first book by Lang Leav. I usually enjoy her books quite a lot. This one was a new collection and there were some that really stood out for me. Always a pleasure reading her poetry!

My first Lang Leav, and I must say I'm disappointed. This reads more like diary entries or a collection of personal thoughts. The problem is, they don't evoke any feeling nor rich in imagery. They are not deep, nor they trigger me into some deep contemplation. Most of them are flat and forgettable.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for providing a review copy.

Lang Leav is not for me.

I read my first Lang Leav book, Love & Misadventure, when I was broken-hearted (ha ha) and I loved every bit of it. But looking back, I’m not even sure if I would still think the same way if I read it again. My standard for poetry has changed and Lang Leav is not enough for me anymore.

I tried to give this book a chance. I really did. I tried to feel the emotions that the poems were supposed to convey but I just couldn’t do it.

To me, it felt like Lang Leav wrote these poems for the sake of writing a book. It tries to be deep and poetic but often comes off as pretentious.

I have nothing against using rhyme in poetry but the ones in this book were kinda bad. There is even a poem that is literally just one sentence separated into lines (which I also complained about in Memories). There were also entries that I think shouldn’t have made it into the book.

I‘m not even kidding when I say that I fell asleep while reading this. I just wanted to be done with it and I can barely remember anything. Out of all of Lang Leav’s poetry books that I read, this was the most disappointing.

To be fair, I actually liked a few of the entries. The entry about slut-shaming stood out to me. If only the book was full of prose like that, I would have loved it.

I don’t think Lang Leav is a bad writer. I just wish that the bar for what makes it into the book and what doesn’t was a bit higher.

I received this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I have followed Lang on Instagram for awhile now, but never read any of her books. I’m so glad I finally did. She has a beautiful way with words and I loved the themes throughout this book. I highly recommend for anyone who has been wanting to read poetry, but doesn’t know where to start.

My first Lang Leav book. I had been wanting to read this author for quite a long time, and I am sad to say that I did expect more from her. It simply wasn't my cup of tea, although I enjoyed the book and I deeply loved certain poems in the book. However, her style and mine don't fit, and that's okay. I still learnt from her writings, and I got inspired to try new things in the way I write poetry, particularly regarding form.

All in all, it is a good read about love and relationships. All types of relationships. Read it and find for yourself if her style or writing is your cup of tea.

There is no denying that Lang Leav can write a beautiful sentence. In fact, almost all of these are. This new collection is technically and emotionally very striking, but I must admit I find myself questioning if it has anything new to say. This cannot be entirely attributed to Leav, admittedly, but this particular brand of female empowerment poetry has become very popular of late, and this therefore feels derivative in parts, which may be an unfair judgement as she still does it far better than most.

For fans of her earlier works, this is in the same vein and will definitely be enjoyable, but for people unfamiliar with her work, I would suggest beginning with the superior Lullabies, or Love and Misadventure. I would recommend this title, definitely, but can't help having expected slightly more.

"Love Looks Pretty On You" is her sixth poetry installment and it's clear that her poetry speaks to people. I'm very happy for those people. I just think I have to come to the conclusion that Lang Leav just isn't for me.

I tried giving her work a chance in the past and it just didn't connect with me and I thought that this would be different. It was her sixth collection, she's grown as a writer, maybe this would be the work that I could connect to. To be honest, the first several poems in this collection had me thinking that this was it- it was the book that would finally get me on the Lang Leav train.

There are several untitled one to two line poems that cut like knives. Brutal and beautiful. "Endless Cycle", while I can't identify with, stings with an aching truth. "This Year" was by far the stand out poem. It's a vindictive, bloody poem and despite my feelings about the poet on the whole, I'd print it and wallpaper my bedroom with it. After reading that poem, I would have absolutely rated this collection a 5 star read.

Unfortunately, it goes down hill from there. The rest of the poems are heavy-handed and dull (abuse is bad! If you speak less, people will pay more attention to your words!) to straight up infuriating (you'll only know love if you've suffered! Stop looking for love and you'll find it!). The middle to the end were so uninspired that I've already forgotten most of them and I just finished the book yesterday. I think I was even more disappointed that I expected because the beginning was so strong.

I found myself skimming towards the end because I was so bored.

If you're already a fan of Lang Leav, you'll probably enjoy it. If you're not, it won't change your mind.

This is the first work of Lang Leav I've read, and I'm 100% certain that I'll be reading more of her poetry books in the future.

I feel like Love Looks Pretty on You discusses topics which would probably interest a wide variety of people, and I think that everyone should at least give it a chance. Relationships, family bonds, mental health and inner peace are a big part of this book, and it's very interesting experiencing someone else's life through the lens of poetry.

One thing I realized that I really enjoy reading about other girls' relationships with their mothers, which is weird because I don't typically enjoy family based books. But there's just something about this topic that just hits the spot. Like, looking back on all the things your mother did for you, and the sacrifices she had to make in order for you to live the way you do, and how the whole situation affects future generations of women is truly fascinating.

Love Looks Pretty on You came to me as a surprise, this is better than her earlier works. I tried her poetry books it’s a tricky relationship but with her novel, phew, that blew my socks off.

What I notice on as a whole is that it felt a bit detached, it lacks the emotion mostly present in her poetry books. Some love pieces that felt monotonous in voice.

However, it brought me to a strong impression of the uplifting and eye-opening encouragement I got from Love Looks Pretty on You. The author shone a light on views as a partner, friend, daughter, and generally as a woman.

Another is the side of taking care of one’s self. It brings awareness to one. I liked pieces particularly: Anxiety, More Than You, Youth, These Years.

This is cute!

"Why do you take it so personally when she contradicts the version of herself that exists only in your head?"

Things I like:
Leav doesn't stick to one style of poetry. Some feel so modern and some rhyme and feel more antiquated and some are more like prose and so on and so on.
I am a big complainer about modern poetry having a lot of "filler", one or two line poems that are essentially just platitudes, and this is almost entirely lacking that.
There are poems about love (both current and former), about her mother, abusive relationships, places, feelings. There are so many different thoughts, many of which are very uplifting and hopeful. A lot of positivity for women.

"You turn him into poetry because you can't have him any other way."

The thing I didn't love is that while some poems made me aww and some made me oOoOoh, I felt nothing. None of these actually made me feeeeel anything and that's what I need from poetry tbh.

You come home to yourself when you have a thing or two to tell your past, when you see with crystal clarity the parts of yourself you need to keep or discard."

Thank you Natgalley for sending to me an Arc of this beautifull book

"You turn him into poetry because you can’t have hime any other way."

The book was so emotional and touchable in some poems but there are some other poems that I didn’t feel them at all. Frankly, this was my first poetry read ever so the genre is still peculiar to me but I think this book was a great start for me as it was so easy to fly through .

"The most beautiful thing is not when you learn to live without soemthing; it's the moment you realize you never needed it in the first place." - Lang Leav

Lang Leav has once again written a compelling collection of poetry. I adored the poems and illustrations in Love & Misadventures and Lullabies. This new collection is just as bold and beautiful. With the main theme of love, it’s the perfect start to the year and just in time for Valentine’s day.

Love Looks Pretty on You is like a box of cookies. Once you’ve had one it’s hard to stop. Each poem has its own unique element and message. They all come together and complement each other in an exquisite way. Leav has a way of making the reader feel in love – whether they are or not. She uses a few words to craft meaningful and relatable poems.

This poetry collection is perfect for:
- people in love
- people who love the idea of love
- people who want to start reading poetry
- people who want to start reading modern poetry
- people with old souls
- people who like cookies and other sweet treats
- people who see the truth in the lies
- people with broken hearts
- people who likes tiny marsmellows in their coffee
- people who love poetry

I think someone who is currently in love will definitely appreciate this book the most. It has that soft fluffy loveliness that one feels when in love. Ahough I did adore this collection, I didn't love it as much as Love & Misadventures and Lullabies. But I still recommend it to everyone!

I was so excited to read this book because Lang leav is one of my favourite poets . And I really loved it ! Most of the poems spoke to me in a very weird way ; I will be very be able to forget them ! The thing is , this book didn't contain only poetry but mostly proses which really bothered me .... I don't say it's bad or something just ... It was different from her other works so I think that's why . I will probably reread it in the future so I could have a more strong opinions .... But I will recommend to everyone because it's Lang leav and because of her peculiar writing style !

I had never read Lang Leav's work before but I had surely heard of her. I got this book from NetGallery, excited to read it and get a feel for her words and emotions. It's interesting and while there are sparks of brilliance in the work, I found it underwhelming, to say the least.
Anticipation is such a thing. I know some people who would love how straightforward the work is, yet for me, it's too straightforward and a lot of the emotional expressions shared in this books have already been shared in a similar format and explored similarly by other poets, so much so, that I found myself hearing Rupi Kaur's voice and Nayyirah Waheed's voice coming through some of the work.
