I haven’t read the first two books in the series, though they’ve been on my To Read List for years now, when the opportunity to read this came up, I had to jump at it. There are a variety of points of view we follow; Safi the Truthwitch, Vivia the Queen-in-Waiting of the Nubrevan throne, Merik a Windwitch, Iseult a Threadwitch and Aeduan the Bloodwitch. Each character is in dire situations that captivate the reader from the first page.

The magic system of these books was intriguing, from witches that can use magic to control the elements to people that wield unique magic like sensing the truth, controlling blood or feeling the Threads of people. The Threadwitch’s powers were slightly confusing since I hadn’t read the previous books, but I was still intrigued to figure out how it all worked. Some of these witches are incredibly rare like the Truthwitch and Bloodwitch, each the only person of their magic.

To save her people, Safi agreed to serve the Empress of Marstok, and now she must test each of the Empress’ people to find the rebels who plot to assassinate the Empress. Safi misses her Threadsister Iseult and is horrified by the punishments the Empress doles out on the liars of her court. Determined to be free, Safi puts her mind to buy her freedom without endangering her people. Safi was an interesting character, with her determined and strong personality and unique magic. Though a glorified slave, she passes witty quips with the Empress, making me chuckle at her bold humour.

Vivia has clearly gone through her own struggles as she attempts to provide and protect her people. If she wasn’t already stressed enough, she must deal with her father takes credit for her deeds and the awkwardness between her and her best friend, Stix. Moving her people into the underground bunker below the city, Vivia explores the expanses of the ancient hidden city while still trying to make diplomatic deals to provide resources for her people.

After the terrible events of the past instalments, where Merik’s best friend Kullen was Cleaved, becoming destroyed by his own magic and transformed into The Fury, a ferocious monster. The Fury pursues Merik and the rest of his crew across the land, determined to capture him, though he longs to kill Merik, killing him would mean The Fury would kill himself. Stuck in a stalemate, Merik can only run while the Fury snaps at his heels. As Merik’s situation becomes hopeless, he is drawn into a position he never expected. I enjoyed learning about the Cleaved and was desperate to see Merik escape his deadly situation, it was one of the most enthralling and exciting points of view in the book.

After chasing Iseult across the entire Witchlands, sworn enemies, Iseult and Aeduan, are forced to work together after the climactic battle of the previous book. Now charged with caring for a young Earthwitch girl called Owl, they travel in hopes of finding the girl’s parents all the while avoiding those who would gladly capture the Threadwitch. Despite the tenuous situation, Iseult and Aeduan are both developing feelings for one another while they struggle not to let their emotions complicate things. Their story and budding relationship were intriguing, from enemies turned allies to perhaps something more. Each was raised within strict organisations, and the reinforced behaviours make it hard for them to connect with each other, for example, Iseult’s tendency to control her emotions and school her features into a blank mask. Even with everything against them, I still hoped Iseult and Aeduan can be together, and I hope to see this in future books.

I loved this world and magic system paired with the diverse and exciting cast of characters. I’d heard this was a good series, but this book went beyond my expectations. The writing was enjoyable while the characters, though numerous and drastically different, were each developed and shown in-depth throughout the novel. I am excited to read the first two books, and I give this third instalment 5/5.

It was very cool to have a chance to see some of this title early. This story follows favorite characters from previous books with some additional perspectives as well. I enjoy this series and will certainly be picking up the rest of the book.

This was a great sneak peak into the newest book in The Witchlands series. It felt like coming home returning to these characters and this world. Now I am really eager to get my hands on a copy of the full book so I can finish what I started. These characters are all so perfect and it felt like this book might be one of my favorites in the series so far! I always loved the story of Aeduan and to get a book that is based around him and his story is perfect. I really like that each book has focused on a different character, hopefully the next book will be Iseult's story !!!

Can't wait to read the rest of the story but as far as I'm concerned this is the perfect beginning, and I'm already hooked!!!

Thanks to NetGalley for providing a preview ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This series has just gotten better and better. I'm honestly really looking forward to finding out more of what happens in the full edition of the third installment of this series. It was a short excerpt but for the fans, it would definitely made them super excited.

My Rating: 5 Stars

Guys. GUYS! Why the hell did it take me so long to read this series? Seriously, why didn’t anyone shove it into my face sooner? I read Truthwitch five days ago, and finished Bloodwitch last night. I seriously couldn’t put this series down. I took the books with me to work (drove my coworkers nuts – no shame), I slept with it on my bedside table, and I took Friday off so that I can meet Susan Dennard in person!

Okay, enough fangirling – lets talk about Bloodwitch. I enjoyed the first 3 books in the series (Truthwitch, Windwitch, and Sightwitch), but Bloodwitch really blew me away. Susan pulled out all the stops with this one, even including a very slow burn romance that had me swooning.

This installment of the Witchlands series focuses more on Aeduan and his backstory than any of the other novels. His story is tragic and explained so much about why his character does the things he does. This novel also followed some pretty serious character development for our favorite Bloodwitch, development that Dennard managed to write in a very organic way.

A lot of the time with multiple POV novels, I find myself wanting to skip ahead to read only certain POVs. In Bloodwitch, however, I enjoyed every character’s story and how they all joined together.

My Takeaway: Its hard to say more about the novel without revealing spoilers, but I honestly can’t say it enough – every book in this series just gets better and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

The excerpt was not long enough. This series is so richly imagined and I am very excited to read the full version of this book today!

It was a short excerpt but it got me sooooo excited for Bloodwitch, which drops at midnight tonight!

I do consider myself to be a Witchlands fan and I do like the books. BUT THIS DRAGGED. All the POV switching is something I have become accustomed to during the first three books, and, yes, it is a bit excessive, but that's not where the problem lays. It takes a toil on the momentum. You become excited about one story line, your heart is beating because it's EXCITING, and out of sudden, boom, you are back to the point of view you don't give a witch's tit about. Am I going to buy the book? Is that even a question? The beginning could have been stronger. BUT it's still Witchlands.

This excerpt definitely whet my appetite for the full volume! Like Truthwitch and Windwitch, Susan Dennard focuses a little more heavily on the character for whom the book is named. We finally learn more about some of the more elusive characters, especially Aeduan. However, she continues to follow almost all the characters from the previous two books, so this anywhere from six to a dozen characters in any chapter. (Because of this I would suggest that readers read the first two books in the series before jumping in to Bloodwitch. You could follow the basic premise but there are so many characters, feuds, and problems that there is no time to linger on introductions). The world Dennard has constructed is large and the magic systems and world building does not disappoint! I was also thrilled to see the continued budding of an LGBTQ+ relationship (side note: why is that so rare in fantasy novels? You are literally creating a new universe from the ground up!) and well as the deepening of unlikely friendships. I love how many strong women there are in this series; they are in every social strata of life! I would recommend this book for any fantasy lovers. I was reminded of some of Terry’s Brooks early work and the Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Burdugo. In the preview I was given, there was no gratuitous violence (such as detailed torture, etc.), sex, or language. I have no trigger warning warnings to attach to the preview. I would recommend it to teens and up.

It has been awhile since I last posted a book reaction to a series favorite.
If you have not yet read the first two books in The Witchlands series, I highly suggest that you do read them first (Truthwitch and Windwitch).
**I received an electronic copy of an except from TorTeen (via NetGalley) in exchange for my honest opinion. Please note that all thoughts and opinions about this book are solely mine. Thank you NetGalley and TorTeen!
BEFORE READING:
My first impression with The Witchland series by Susan Dennard is a mixture of Assassin's Creed and A Court of Thorns and Roses series (by Sarah J. Maas). It is full of magic and action that I cannot put the book down.

Bloodwitch - the third novel in series, is one of my highly anticipated release for this year. After reading the first two books in the series, Truthwitch and Windwitch, I was very excited to learn that the third book will be release this February. I have grown to fall in love with characters of Aeduan and Iseult. So, when I received a notification from NetGalley that my request is granted, I immediately dived in.
WHILE READING:
OH MY GOODNESS!!!
From the moment I start reading the first page of the first chapter, I was HOOKED!!!
I was definitely at the edge of my seat (rather, my bed) as I read through their adventures, mostly Aeduan since this is his story. I practically flew through the pages as every questions are being answered, page by page. So much action! I love how Ms. Dennard's style of writing threw me off into a fantasy land. Imagine you are playing Assassin's Creed but with different characters.
I know I am being biased as I am very vocal about my love for Aeduan-Iseult ship. I was so happy with their character development. So much more is happening in this story.
AFTER READING:
Well, since I received an excerpt... I was devestated and it is driving me crazy!!!
I wanted to know what will happen next. Will the four of them cross paths again? Will Safi learn that Merik survived? Will Iseult and Aeduan fall of each other???

I received a preview of this book from NetGalley and it has me so excited for this book! While I did not get to read the entire book ahead of time, the parts that I did read got me excited and anxious for what is to come. Picking up where the story left off in Windwitch, Bloodwitch starts the action immediately and gets you ready for what I can only assume is something really big. This book already has me excited for what is going to happen and the next book in the series! If you've already read Truthwitch or Windwitch, pick up Bloodwitch on Tuesday and enjoy the ride!

I am a huge fan of the Witchlands and couldn't be more happy about the addition of this book. The sneak peek was a perfect mash up of bringing me back into the world as well as starting off on a new adventure.

I love the format of following all these different characters with interlocked stories that are still seperate as each of them have their own agendas, feelings, and complications arise.

Though the story has a very vast world the driving force to this action packed series is of course the characters that each book is named after. Coming into a book called Bloodwitch you would almost expect the story to center around just Aeduan, but truly its the crew as a whole that it surrounds but the biggest character arc lies with its naming character. Already I can tell that Aeduan must face the idea of himself being labeled a monster. You can see this being a big driving factor as it was never really quite brought up in previous books and he has quickly become many peoples favorite characters. Where as we have characters who were the golden boy in the first book, Merik we find enduring suffering and torture, we still adore poor little Aeduan.

I loves this excerpt! I had a bit if a difficult start with it, after a year away from the series I had to recall a lot to find seemlessly back into it. But then it took off and one thing after the next happened and I could not put it down.

I got the impression that the chapters where a bit shorter than before, but it was perfectly fine and since we now have a lot of characters to cover it made sense to shorten the chapters.

The writing stile was as beautiful and insistent as ever and I loved to see my favourite characters again.

We got to see a bit more of the strong women in this series, learned a lot about Marstok and I loved the chapter from Stix's view. It is just exciting to see the hints from Sightwitch come into play and get an almost clear picture of what is to come.

Basically I loved everything about this excerpt and can't wait to dive into the book when it comes out in a few days.

I highly recommend this series it gets better with every book and contains all of my favourite fantastic elements.

I have loved this series since the begining and i still love it. I just can´t get enough of Aeduan, Iseult and Owl. I feel like we are seeing more about who Aeduan is and what he feels for Iseult. I also really enjoyed Vivian's arc and all her striggles in becoming who she is and being empowred.

Dennard continues to gve strong and complex female characters that fight for frindships and for being them selves, no matter the consequences.

Thank you for allowing me to get a preview of on of my favorite series! Susan's storytelling improves with each book. She adds so much emotion and excitment to her stories making it that much better. I cant wait to read the rest of the book soon!

I apologize. I did not realize this was the third book in a trilogy. Being so, I should not review it without having read the first two books. Based on the success of the first two books. I did rate the excerpt highly (plus again, taking responsibility for my error).

I received a copy of this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was by no means long enough, in my excitement in being approved to review this I didn't realize it was a PREVIEW so imagine my surprise to turn to the next page ... that wasn't there. I'm so excited to review this in full once I have the complete novel in my hands.

I loved that the opening scene is from Aeduan's childhood, I honestly teared up and thought it explained so much of his character development and personality. I also love having chapters from his pov ... basically the more Aeduan I can get the happier I am.

I loved seeing Iseult and Safi again though I really just want them reunited because I adore their friendship.

Full review to come though I can already tell this book is going to be absolutely amazing and a great addition to the Witchlands series

Something was wrong with the formatting for this one. Most of the other books I've had sent directly to my kindle worked fine, but this was so messed up it was actually unreadable. Anyway, I loved the first books in this series, so I'm sure I'll love this one too, but I am disappointed I couldn't read this excerpt.

This is the book I have been waiting for from this series. The pairings were better than in previous books, but this could be because the stakes were raised a lot more. I'm just truly satisfied compared to how I felt when finishing Windwitch. Susan Dennard gets better every time.

Thank you, Net Galley, for an advanced copy of this book.
