This book started a bit slow for me but that soon changed! Wow! What a fast paced story! It kept me guessing to the end and was hard to put down! Loved it!!

This story was utterly gripping and fascinating from the very beginning. I found the writing very easy to read with two alternate points of view and additional, unique journal entries from a third perspective. The plot was also very compelling, in fact, I had a really hard time putting it down. I was completely invested in the characters, the friendships, and the intrigue. Although the climatic last third was rather far-fetched and implausible, in my opinion, that only served to make it all the more entertaining. Until the Day I die was a mystery and an adventure, as well as a tale of friendship. It was original and creative, and great fun to read.

This was a DNF for me. I gave this book 30% and found the story to be so implausible and the characters unappealing and unbelievable.

The fact that one of the heads of a successful company could be forced to take a month at a rehab center after one questionable act at her daughter's college is just flimsy writing. There is no way a strong woman as this character is portrayed would accept that, nor her daughter.

Since I did not finish this I will not post on public websites.

Thank you for the opportunity

This was a rollercoaster for me. The first third of the book just didn't have enough speed for me and I wanted it to get into the action and, more generally, the point. When it picked up speed, I really enjoyed the ride and the twists along the way. The very last bit, the epilogue, just crashed hard for me. I felt like it was a twist that was not needed on top of everything that had gone on. Throughout the story, I noticed there was just a large excess of characters and the epilogue confirmed that there were just too many as it contained a twist with a character I couldn't have cared less about. I think this was overall a good book with a very unique and original plot but could've been better by cutting out some excess fat in the shape of characters who do very little other than to add yet another name to remember and in the shape of excess plot turns that are just not needed overall.

4- exhilarated stars!

This book had everything you want/need in a mystery thriller. And a little modern technology lingo and a bit of an eww gross factor added in to the mix.

It’s impossible for me to go into any more detail as each part of this story is so intricately woven together. But I will say that it was compelling and surprising. There were some great strong characters partially the mother-daughter duo of Erin (I love books with characters that have the same name as me!) and Shorie.

The only negative is that some parts moved a little slowly and I found myself resorting to skimming through these to get back to the suspense.

Thank you Emily Carpenter, Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

When her computer engineer husband dies in a car crash, 48-year-old Erin Gaines finds herself completely unmoored. She's not sure how to proceed with day-to-day living, let alone how to manage her role as CEO of Jax, the lucrative startup tech company the Gaines' own with several of their friends. Erin knows that, after five months, her paralyzing, zombie-like grief is wearing thin. Everyone—her friends, family, and co-workers—have expressed grave concern about her ability to function at all, especially as the head of a powerful company at the peak of its performance. After a particularly telling incident, Erin's loved ones stage an intervention, gently forcing her to enroll in a program at a luxurious "restoration" facility on a remote Caribbean island. Reluctant though she is to admit it, Erin knows a few weeks at Hidden Sands might be exactly what she needs to come back to herself.

Shorie Gaines, Erin's 18-year-old daughter, is thrilled her mother's finally getting some help. She's worried about Erin's emotional state, but she's also concerned over some weird error messages on Jax's operating system. Something isn't quite right and with the company's CEO conveniently out of the way, it's up to Shorie to figure out what. The more she digs, however, the more distressed she becomes. When she receives a cryptic S.O.S. from her mother, Shorie realizes what Erin's already discovered—Erin has been sent to Hidden Sands not to heal, but to disappear ...

I discovered Emily Carpenter's mesmerizing thrillers last year and was absolutely thrilled to discover she'd be releasing a new one in 2019. The premise and setting of her newest, Until the Day I Die (available March 12), is a bit different from her others. It's got a less Gothic, more modern spin, which I ended up liking even though I wasn't sure I would. Like Carpenter's previous novels, this one features a sympathetic heroine who becomes entangled in a unique, intriguing situation. As the story stakes rise, the action ramps up until the reader is frantically whipping through pages to find out what will happen next. Although the climax does come to a confusingly abrupt end (at least in the ARC), Until the Day I Die remains a propulsive, engrossing thriller from which you will not be able to look away. It's far-fetched, sure, but who cares? This is the kind of tense, nail-biting suspense that will leave fans thirsty for more. I thoroughly enjoyed Until the Day I Die and can't wait to see what the incomparable Emily Carpenter will do next.

I enjoyed reading this book. I liked having the 2 different POV's of Erin and her daughter Shorie, it was like having two different stories going on that meet up at the end. Although it did take me till about 25% before I really got into the book. Once I got into it I didn't want to put it down. I thought that this was pretty fast paced with mystery, action, coming of age, with a little bit of romance mixed in.

I have heard amazing things about Emily Carpenter and was super excited to get my hands on her newest book!

This was my first read by Emily Carpenter and I can see why she has so many fans!!

The beginning of this one started off very very slow... I was worried to be honest that this was going to be a DNF for me! But, it slowly started to creep up like a boogie man with twists and turns that you don't see coming!

I really loved Emily Carpenter's writing! It's superb and utterly addicting to the max. She weaves her readers into the Carpenter web and won't let you go ;). The way that she describes the island... boy can you feel that tropical breeze, see the beautiful ocean, and smell that sweet scent of ocean.

I really liked the dual characters of going back and forth between mother and daughter. It was addicting and very enertaining.

The only issues that had with this one was the ending. It was a tad unbelievable in my opinion and was a bit disappointed.

Overall, definitely enjoyed this one and will be looking out for more by Emily Carpenter!

This is a suspenseful psychological thriller with real characters and some interesting food for thought including issues of the sense of loss grieving and the psychological impact of lies and manipulation.

The pace is swift with lots of twists and a surprise ending that I didn't figure out which is usual for me and a positive sign for the author. I enjoyed this book very much and would difinetely recommend.

I voluntarily reviewed this novel via Netgalley.

This was a fast paced thriller. I found myself trying to figure out who did what and to be surprised at the end is a testament to the author's skill. I enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it.

If there’s a healthy way to grieve, Erin Gaines hasn’t found it. After her husband’s sudden death, the runaway success of the tech company they built with their best friends has become overwhelming. Her nerves are frayed, she’s disengaged, and her frustrated daughter, Shorie, is pulling away from her. Maybe Erin’s friends and family are right. Maybe a few weeks at a spa resort in the Caribbean islands is just what she needs to hit the reset button…

Now, thousands of miles away in a remote, and oftentimes menacing, tropical jungle, things at the resort aren’t exactly how the brochure described, and unless she’s losing her mind, Erin’s pretty sure she wasn’t sent there to recover—she was sent to disappear.

I've read all of Emily Carpenter's books and have loved them all, I'm happy to say this one didn't let me down either! Such a fast paced, sinister rollercoaster ride.

Until the Day Die by Karen Carpenter was excellent read that I thoroughly enjoyed. It was refreshing read and nothing like I have recently read! The book was not what I expected and different from the thrillers that I have read in the past. It was a pleasant mixture of literary fiction combined with the page turning aspects of a thriller. In most reads, I can usually use my immense reading skills to figure out the whodunit! However, this book had many unexpected twists and turns.
The book explores the perceived intentions of one person over another and how easily situations between close friends can be manipulated to fit the context of the story to create an "edited" picture of what is really happening. If you are a fan of being a "fly on the wall" into other people's relationships to see their interactions along with the heart pounding nature of a thriller and needing to find out where the next turn will take you, you WILL LOVE "Until the Day I Die".

This was an interesting mystery. Lots of "how is this going to turn out" and "who's involved". It wasn't a crazy thriller or the most suspenseful plot but it was an easy but enjoyable read that had me turning the pages until the very end!

I am a big fan of Emily Carpenter. This is such a good story of a smart and shrewd mother and daughter who are recovering from the death of their husband/father. A story of deception and conspiracy. Told from the points of view of both the mother and the daughter. Definitely a page turner that keeps your attention until the very last word. Plot twists galore.
Thanks to the author, publisher and Net Galley for the opportunity to read this advance copy I highly recommend..

I have never read anything by Emily Carpenter and didn't have any expectations going into this book. I was surprised at what a great thriller this was - it was fast paced and exciting with lots of good little twists and red herrings thrown in. It was very well written and the characters were strong and likable. I definitely will be reading her other books.

My very first Emily Carpenter book! And after that story, it won't be my last.

Erin is the CEO of a successful mobile wallet app called Jax that she and her husband started up with their best friends from high school. Now, Erin has lost her husband to a car crash and has also lost her way. She works long hours and neglects her relationship with her daughter, Shorie.

Shorie is heading off to Auburn University. She doesn't want to, she wants to stay and work for the family company. She resents her mother for making her go. She's good at the job. She can code, she's good with computers, and she's smart enough to hack her way into things. But her mother insists she go off to her alma mater and get an education. After Shorie and the other company heads send Erin off to heal from the loss of her husband at Hidden Sands, a resort where they don't use the word "rehabilitation" but instead use the word "restoration", Shorie soon finds that there is a small problem within Jax and it could be connected to her mother. And Erin finds that this resort she's been sent to for healing is not at all what she thought it would be.

The beginning of this book, for me, was slow going. In the first few chapters we meet our main characters, Shorie and Erin. The story is told entirely through them. Though, I did find those slow burning chapters to be necessary to build the characters and their situations for what was to come.

I will admit, at times I lost who I was reading about. There are quite a few characters in the book that either have their own dialect or are mentioned multiple times. Every once in a while I had to stop and remember who this person was and how they tied into everything.

But, GUYS, once Erin got to Hidden Sands... just... just wow. From the minute she got there both the reader and the character can tell something is off. At Hidden Sands, people are not allowed to have their own clothes, they're not allowed to tie their hair back in a ponytail, and they're not allowed to talk during meal times. The picture the author paints of this place is enough to set you on edge before anything has even happened!
In the beginning, I enjoyed Shorie's chapters a little more so than Erin's. But by the time Erin got to Hidden Sands, I was invested in both narratives. I've read many books where more than one character is telling the story and I always have one narrative that I don't care to read as I'm more interested in the others. But this book had me hooked on both. I was anxious. I needed the next chapters of Shorie's narrative to finally align with Erin's and I was on the edge of my seat! And then the stories DID align and I realized I had completely fallen out of my chair.
Is this book not a movie yet? Because it really should be.

All in all, this was a wonderful read. This was my second arc and so far, the ARCs I've gotten have NOT disappointed.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE
Just remember to hold on to your pantaloons because this one is NOT going to be what you think.

4.5 out of 5!

I didn't think that Emily Carpenter would ever ben able to outdo herself after Weight of Lies. I was wrong.

Told in alternating viewpoints of mother and daughter, the story follows that of Erin (mom) and Shorie (daughter) as they navigate life after the death of Perry (husband/dad respectively). Finding that she isn't handling the grief very well, Erin "agrees" when he family decides to ship her off to a remote island to rest while Shorie starts college. However, none of what either of them thinks is going on plays out as they expected.

I will admit, the first couple chapters had me a little lost, especially the Erin chapters. However, it quickly became clear that I was only as confused as the character, and that it was deliberate. However, once Erin made it to the island, I was 100% sucked into the world Carpenter created and figuring out exactly why Erin has been shipped off. The action and suspense picks up quickly, leaving you wondering just who you can trust. I found myself questioning pretty much everything, and trying to figure out how all the pieces came together.

The biggest shocker for me came at the very end...like last two sentences end. There better be a sequel after that ending...
