The Temp by Michelle Frances was a thriller with a nice, change of pace, plot twist. The book is told between alternating views of Carrie, a TV producer, who has decided it's now or never to have a child (even if her husband isn't totally for it), Emma, the temp who is attempting to make it in the world of TV, as well as to evade her ever pressuring parents who want her to settle down with a less glamorous job, and Adrian, the successful, BAFTA winning writer and also Carrie's husband.
While Carrie prepares for her maternity leave, she helps to pick out a temp to replace her for the time being. Along comes Emma, a script writer who is eager to make her mark and become self sufficient so her parents will get off her back. Emma is bright and has lots of good ideas, while this leaves Carrie feeling vulnerable, Adrian and their boss Liz are totally ready to bring Emma on board.
While you think you know where this story is headed, the author surprises the reader with a fresh plot twist.

I enjoyed this novel. It's definitely slower paced & I'm not quite sure I'd classify it as suspense/thriller - maybe domestic fiction? It was interesting and the ending definitely made the book for me - I was unsure at times where it was going. Overall, a decent story.

I enjoyed The Girlfriend, which was a fairly simple, pacy and easy to read thriller. But this unfortunately was not in the same league. I was waiting a long time for the story to pick up, but all the action was condensed into the very end of the book. I also didn't get much from the characterisation, characters were hard to care about and their actions difficult to understand.

Absolutely loved this book! Couldn't put it down until it was finished. Will definitely be recommending to customers at my work!

This book would get 3.5 stars if that were an option. This book has all of the components of a good thriller, and many people will love it. It is well-written and it sucks you right in in the first few pages. But...I predicted the major plot twist right away. And I hate when I’m right about that, because the best thrillers shock you. But overall I enjoyed reading this book.

I love the premise of The Temp by Michelle Frances. Very intriguing from the start!

Wanted: Assistant to provide maternity cover for high-powered TV producer. Must be bright, creative, with killer instincts.

Emma would do anything to work for the woman who has the job she wants. Carrie is at the top of her game, with a dream career, a baby on the way, and a handsome screenwriter husband. For Emma, with parents who don’t understand her ambition and a serious misstep behind her, this temp position might be her last chance.

Carrie has given up more than anyone knows to get to the top of a ruthless business. She won’t give up this baby too. But with Emma filling in for her at the office, her perfect life starts to unravel. Her bank account is inexplicably overdrawn, her husband seems strangely distant and colleagues are all too happy to take Emma’s creative direction. Carrie finds herself dying to get back to work . . . until a letter left at her door changes everything.

Trust and fear trade places in a love triangle that defies readers’ expectations at every turn.

As I mentioned a million times before, I love reading thrillers and suspense novels but many times the plots or ideas seem recycled. Its hard to come up with something fresh and new which captivates a readers attention.

There are numerous authors who have pulled off a plot that’s been done before, and these authors have done it well. I am always on the lookout for a storyline that I haven’t experienced and this is one of those books that brings something new to the table. This is a very entertaining read and I think many of you will stay up into the night to see how it ends!

I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.

Whil this book was very interesting exploration of a husband being an asshole, it was more woman’s fiction and not really much of a thriller. It’s obvious who the bad guy is who is causing all the trouble from jump and you really are just waiting for the wife to figure it out. No murders. No thrills. Just a shitty man who is shit from the beginning.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a digital arc in exchange for an honest Review!

I am not a big Mystery reader, I wanted to try diverse genres this year and fortunately, Netgalley accepted my request.

Carrie is a famous producer and Adrian is an award-winning writer, They are power couple of industry and planning on working together when Carrie got pregnant which wasn't in their life plan. Here comes Emma a young struggling writer who got fortunate enough to get a chance to temporary fill the Carrie job.

It is the story which left you wondering who is who and what is what, you maybe can guess who is bad or good but there are more layers than this.

I thoroughly enjoyed the writing, For me, all of these characters were equally a bit psycho. The ending was unexpected for me. The story could be a bit better still It was enjoyable.

It is filled with family, jealousy, conspiracy, misunderstanding, and drama.

Loved this one! Great writing and storyline about two producers of a show. I have read so many thrillers I thought when I started this one I would be able to figure out where it was going but I was surprised. Such a great story that I couldn't put down. I am defiantly going to recommend this one to everyone!

It's really an age old story idea, and it doesn't matter how many times I read it, I never tire of it because 1) It's a bloody good story line, and 2) An author always makes it there own. And the other did make it there own, which I applaud because I can imagine that would be a tad tricky! In saying that, I did find this read on the slower side throughout much of the read, and I can't say that I found any major surprising plot twists but there was few smaller ones, which did make you want to keep reading (thumbs up). The writing was lovely to read in that although i was slowish, it flowed and was quite effortless. I can definitely see this author being moreish!

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Pan MacMillian for allowing me an ebook copy of this story, I definitely look forward to reading more from this fabulous new author.

What a thrilling read! From the description alone I knew I had to read this book and I am so happy I did! This is going to be an outstanding book in 2019. Michelle Frances is an amazing author and I hope to read more from her soon! A must read.

Thanks to #netgalley for an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. This was my first Michelle Frances book, I do have her other book The Girlfriend in my TBR list so she has been on my radar to read for a while. This book centres around Carrie and Adrian and the waves that are created in their marriage/working relationship once Carrie becomes pregnant and Emma fills in for her in the office as her temporary replacement. Emma seems determined to get revenge for something but her vendetta is on Adrian not Carrie. What is she up to? She seems to have built her world on lies. This was a suspenseful read with a plot twist that I did not even anticipate to the point of it had me putting my Kindle down and saying what did I miss?! 😂 a thriller that won't disappoint. #netgalley #michellefrances #kensingtonbooks #goodreads #tea_sipping_bookworm #litsy #amazon #kindle #bookstagram #instabooks #thriller #plottwist

Carrie a successful T.V. producer with an award winning screenwriter husband Adrian finds herself pregnant and is looking for a temporary replacement while she goes on maternity leave.

Emma , a 24 year old script editor feels like a perfect fit and everyone seems to love her but Carrie soon starts to suspect  that there might be an ulterior motive to Emma's intentions.

The Temp is my second book by Michelle Frances after loving her first book The Girlfriend. It is a fast, entertaining read with some expected and some unexpected twists. Looking forward to reading the next one by Michelle Frances.

I would like to thank Kensington Books & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

***4-4.5 Stars***
Publication date: January 29th 2019

I absolutely devoured this book and could not put it down.
Carrie is a successful TV producer and married to Adrian when Emma is hired as a temp and everything goes from there. Is Emma interested in Carrie's husband and why?
Is Carrie just paranoid because she's pregnant and feeling distance with her husband?
With my favorite category of reads being thrillers, I totally thought I knew how this would end but surprisingly it was different and wayyy better than I imagined.
The bombshell twist at the end totally caught me off guard as well. I don't imagine anyone will predict it.
I love Michelle Frances' writing style, short chapters that make it impossible to put down. I also encourage others to read her previous book " The Girlfriend" as well.

Special thanks to NetGalley and by Kensington Publishing Corporation for allowing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love trying to find new thrillers that keep me interested guessing. This one did it. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as The Girl Friend, but definitely worth the read!

Thank you so much for this ARC!

This book was an enjoyable read but quite slow moving. I think the description of the book led me to believe it was going to be a completely different story line. Not a bad read but certainly not a domestic thriller. Also, the "surprise ending" added no value and honestly did not fit.

The Temp by Michelle Frances. A well written and enjoyable read. Though slow moving during the first part, the action picks up during the last quarter of the book.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

I feel like this is a story that's been told before. Carrie and Adrian agreed they didn't want kids, but when Carrie tells Adrian she's pregnant and is keeping the baby, it throws a wrench in to their the plans they had. You can immediately tell that Adrian really wants nothing to do with the baby as he takes very little interest. Carrie throws herself into the pregnancy and planning for the baby to come. Thus, in walks Emma, a temp that their company hires to help out with Carrie's duties while she is on maternity leave. Emma is a star employee, although it appears she is a little obsessed with Adrian.

There are definitely some twists thrown in that I didn't expect, but I found all the characters a little ho-hum. Several things that happened in this book, left me feeling a bit confused at how stupid these people could be. They were all so superficial and in to themselves that certain things just never occurred to them? I'm really in a book rut right now, so I feel like I'm being picky and skeptical about the books/stories/plots I read right now

Thanks to author/publisher/netgalley for an ARC of the book for an honest review.

The story revolves around three main characters carried, Adrian and Emma. Carrie and Adrain a couple married for a long time, a baby in the way which Adrian is not fully on board with. Emma is the temp hired to fill in for carrie while she takes some time off to care for the baby and carrie is rightly worried about it considering the cut throat industry she is in and how easily people get forgotten.

With that being said, the story is really slow moving and nothing thriller about it. The surprise ending adds no value and did not make any difference to the overall story line.

Definitely skip if your genre is mystery.
