You will suffer is the third volume in The Agency series by Alexandra Ivy. You can find the reviews for the first volumes here: Pretend You’re Safe and What Are You Afraid Of?
Problem is I can’t find the link between this volume and the previous ones, in part because we don’t see any previous characters and in part because the hero doesn’t talk about them either. But that’s not really important after all and it allows not to be forced to read the other two of we don’t know them.

You Will Suffer features Nate Marcel and Ellie Guthrie. Nate if a former FBI agent who definitively landed in Curry, a little American town in Oklahoma, because he needed tranquility and rest. Ellie is a lawyer who wished to settle in her birth town to open her office, to her parents’ great displeasure as they wanted her to have a big career in a big city.
Very quickly, Ellie feels watched, bodies pile up and she receives strange “gifts”. She confides in the sheriff who doesn’t want to intervene, which brings the hero to take charge to discover what’s happening.

As usual, the romantic suspense side is so well done we want to turn the pages quicker to know all the ins and outs of this story. We have big twists until the end especially with the exhumation of secrets well buried. No doubt about it Alexandra Ivy is really excellent in this field.
The romance side is also well done. Ellie and Nate have been attracted to each other from the start but as much as the hero goes on flirting with her, Ellie preferred to avoid him when she realized Nate wanted a long-term relationship instead of a little affair. Yes, you’ve read that right, here it’s the hero who wants more. LOL. At the beginning of the story, we have a heroine quite cold who turns down the hero, which may not really appeal. I have to say, it wasn’t my favorite part but fortunately it doesn’t last too long. The heroine has a big trust issue and trouble with relation with others because of her family and that’s what the hero fights against till the end. In any case we believe in the evolution of the feelings and in the HEA.

I really liked the heroes even if I wanted to shake Nate when he crosses swords with the sheriff against Ellie’s advices. And Ellie, once she shows herself to be more likeable, is an excellent character too.

Normally there won’t be any other book in this series but I said that after the second, so perhaps we’ll have a surprise? LOL. You Will Suffer is an excellent romantic suspense I recommend.

This is my first mystery by Alexandra Ivy, I have read and loved her paranormal romances, and now can add her mysteries (which she has several!!). Read the book in two days, could not put it down. A great read that kept me guessing. I will be reading all her mysteries.

Totally unexpected ending.

Good story. Lots of suspense. The love story made a nice background. I need to find the other books in this series.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of You Will Suffer by Alexandra Ivy that I read and reviewed.
I did not get into this book like I would have liked. For me it started off a bit slow and it was a bit jumpy and just did not get into the characters either. I figured out who one of the bad people where from the start and for me that takes all the fun out of the book.
I can only give this book a three out of five rating

Alexandra Ivy has the ability to pull readers into a mystery that will keep readers on their toes wondering what will happen next and who is the villain. The author writes though different points of view. The story takes off from the beginning and the characters are looking for redemption and a normal life when things turn crazy with dead bodies.

The story flows from beginning to end with endless questions that Ellie can't seem to find an answer for. The twist that start the mystery that has more questions than answers.

The story can be read as a stand a lone novel or part of a series but it is a can't be missed Mystery.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Headline Eternal for the advance copy of Alexandra Ivy You Will Suffer

Ellie Guthrie is attracted to former FBI agent Nate Marcel, too attracted. Believing she has no time for a relationship because she is too busy with her private law practice in Curry, Oklahoma Ellie avoids Nate as best she can. This doesn't stop Nate from trying though. Good thing because strange things are happening to Ellie and Nate is determined to protect her. Too many suspicious deaths are occurring in their quiet hometown and Nate fears they are somehow related to Ellie.

You Will Suffer by Alexandra is the third book in her Agency series. This story has many twists and turns, chock full of suspense and a surprise ending. The plot is well-thought-out and runs smoothly. I liked the two main characters, Ellie and Nate. Their chemistry is off the charts and how they develop trust in each other is admirable. I highly recommend this book.

Small towns and their secrets. This one is deadly enough that someone is willing to kill for it. First it's the drug addict son of the previous sheriff of the town, posed in a field of flowers with a syringe full of drugs plunged into his arm. The sheriff is willing to rule it a drug overdose but Nate Marcel has been an FBI agent too long and something about the scene suggests that its been staged.

Then it's the turn of the baker with a young son to protect who grew up in the town. Same field, same flowers and same injection but this one doesn't smell right to more people because she had a son she loved and lived a clean sober life. What is going on and what did the alcoholic former secretary to her father attempt to tell Ellie before she died. Oh and lets not forget the series of random accidents that are being strewn in Ellie's way.

As Nate and Ellie fall in love they are one step ahead of a killer who's got them in his gunsights. What is the secret that has brought Ellie's father back to the town of Curry that he couldn't wait to leave behind. The truth is so unbelievable and the murderer so unexpected that despite the darkness this is an excellent suspense that will keep the hair on your arms stand up.

3.5⭐

This is the first book I've read by this author and whilst I did enjoy it. I must admit to finding it quite slow paced. However, the story itself was good and the killer certainly caught my attention. Although I wouldn't say I was completely gripped or really felt like I had to keep reading because I was desperate to find out what was going to happen next.
But saying that there was a nice mix of mystery, suspense and romance, and the characters were likable too.
And I'm sure fans of the series and the author will enjoy this latest addition.

I will start by saying that this book is a stand-alone novel that is primarily a suspense driven story. There is a romance taking place between Ellie who has returned to her home town and Nate who is a retired FBI agent but if I’m honest it doesn’t seem to be what’s driving the book. I do realise that many of this authors fans expect hot romance from her stories but for me it was all about the mystery and just why everything was happening.
This was unusual in that I couldn’t really detect any red herrings and in fact was kept guessing as to just why so much was going on almost until the very end. I did suspect someone quite early on and my suspicions were correct but honestly the big reveal at the end was a huge and particularly shocking surprise.
So my final thought is the central couple were ok but all the crazy happenings totally dominated the story so if it’s a strong believable romance you crave then please be advised that you might feel let down but the horrific action definitely makes up for it.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Ellie Guthrie was a defense attorney who opened her own law firm in Curry. In this small town she was an intimidating force of nature to those people who enjoyed a slower pace of life. Ellie was a single female focused on her career leaving no room for a long term relationship, yet that doesn’t stop Nate from pursuing her. Ellie was a by the book type of character who was careful and cautious.

Nate Marcel was a former FBI agent, yet he still reacted with the skills of a FBI agent. He just couldn’t resist investigating the crimes in this small town. As an agent his life was in constant danger. He thrived on the thrill. He lived alone on his ranch in Curry immediately setting his sights on Ellie. When a persistent retired FBI agent pushes his way into Ellie’s life she’s thankful for his need to protect and serve. Standing on her porch begging to be noticed he demanded attention.

Overall: It’s not grabbing my attention like I had hoped. The premise led me to believe this was going to be a dangerous and thrilling book. There was some criminal activity, yet certain characters downplayed the murders creating a less than thrilling feeling.

Story: Ellie’s life was in danger, yet the threats were anything but life threatening. Someone was sending her a message. Nate a former FBI agent worked with Ellie to find the person threatening her life. This was a character driven story with many minor character introductions. It was easy to follow along. This had an excellent concept and premise. However, the execution wasn’t what I envisioned. There were Clever plot twists. Unfortunately, the killer was quite easy to figure out using Process of elimination. Having Nate an FBI agent was too convenient in my opinion. His love interest in Ellie was also convenient considering he was at the right place at the right time to offer his protection.

This was the third book in this series, so I’m not sure there is a backstory that I’m missing. The story mixes a little business with pleasure, however I prefer a story to focus more on the business. I found this book to be a bit wordy in areas that didn’t warrant the extra details.

This is the third book in the series. Each book is stand alone. This was probably my least favorite so far but still a good romantic suspense read.

Ellie and Nate are both new to town. Ellie much more guarded than Nate. But Nate is persistent and when odd circumstances through them together, Nate decides to go for it and let Ellie know what he wants. Their romance takes back seat to the murders that are happening in and around their small town. Together, they are trying to sort out what is going on. It means digging up a past that neither of them is going to be happy about.

Good writing and plot development. I had my guesses about what was going on but was totally wrong in the end. I like that kind of surprise! Nate and Ellie were ok together. I didn't get a ton of chemistry between the two other than a physical attraction. But folded into the suspense of the story, it worked.

I always look forward to more from this author.

I didn't know that this was the third in the series but I wasn't lost so I do not think you need to read the other books first but since I did enjoy this book I will go back and read them. We meet strong female in Ellie and some weird things start happening and she is just going to ignore them no big deal until her neighbor Nate who was an FBI agent thinks she should worry more and take them seriously and she should considering someone is killing people and no one knows who.. So she and Nate get together to find out who is doing it and why? While spending time together they realize they like each other more than they thought..Grab a copy my friends and enjoy!

I give this book 3 stars as although I enjoyed the mystery side of the crime, I really did t like Ellie, the main character who came of as selfish, stuck up and snooty, and it was hard to see what the hero saw in her, apart from maybe her good looks. The romance ruined this story as it felt very rushed and as I said before I just did t like the female lead, it’s a shame as the murders and history of an event that led to them was really good

I would rate this 3.5 stars. I like the small town setting, and it being in Oklahoma. I was born there and have family there, so that was the first thing that made me interested in this book. I really didn't like Ellie much to begin with. As much as she didn't like her snobby upbringing, she was somewhat of a snob herself, but started to become more real toward the end of the story. I haven't read the other books, so that makes me curious for more information about Nate and his time in the FBI, and why he is staying out on the prairie now. The mystery was solid, and I liked the other characters in the storyline.

Small town killings...family mysteries...lots of secrets :)

First, I have to admit, Nate is a little creepy on his own. LOL He had me worried for a bit. Overall the characters are good, believable, and the story line has a few twists you won't see coming...

3.5* An unlikable, up-herself heroine detracted from this tale. I couldn't see what the hero saw in her, tbh.

This seems to be a standalone tale, and it's one of those that would've worked best as a thriller/suspense novel, bypassing the feels-faux romance element, because it ended up being a 'romance' where I didn't care about the leads and whether or not they got a HEA:

Him, because he seemed to be obsessed with the idea of getting married, and wanted a woman who pretty much wanted nothing to do with him. Despite her put downs and protests and coldness, he seemed to railroad her into some kind of relationship with him, and at the end, he was rushing her down the path to a life together, when she was clearly digging her heels in. She wasn't interested in moving in together or meeting his family, but he still took her to a family do. At that point, there hadn't even been any words of liking or love on her part, just a bit of a softening of her attitude and manner. And, tbh, he was a bit 'me man, you woman, me know best' attitude, so he didn't win points.

Her, because she seemed to be digging in her heels about her independence and not wanting anything other than sex (is this a new theme in so-called romance novels these days? Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I still like the idea of wanting love, a shared future, a connection, warmth and companionship, but she was stone cold), and because she was plain and simple a miserable woman with a chip on her shoulder that felt fabricated for the tale, not something real. 'Poor little rich girl' has been done to death, and there was no example given at all of what she'd found so hard and what had affected her - she sounded as cold as her parents supposedly were. There was nothing warm or redeeming about her and I really, really didn't see what the lead saw in her. The only thing I did admire her for, is when she turned on lawyer mode, as her traits that I didn't like made her good at her job.

Still, though, the tale was well done. It had secrets that the leads and the synopsis don't prepare you for. It had bad guys who at the end you can believe are bad guys, but who the author has disguised well enough that they're completely hidden. But, at the same time, can you hide such a degree of effectively what is mental illness? I just find it a little hard to believe that no signs were seen and that those nearest and dearest were clueless. One of the baddies I sort of believed in, but the other came across as a little too crazed and bloodthirsty to be believable, especially given their young age. I'm sure school/friends/family would've noticed that level of something-not-quite-right.

There are a couple of bits that felt formulaic and planted - the deaths of the 'posse', and the arrival of one prominent character who you just knew was the lynch pin of the matter at the crux of the tale, but still the tale worked overall. It'd have worked even better if the author had couched it as a suspense novel, without the faux-feeling romance that spoilt it for me.

Absolutely loved "You Will Suffer" by Ms. Ivy. Storytelling at it's best. I was hooked and couldn't put the book down. Great spine-tingling excitement

Ellie Guthrie has moved to her hometown of Curry, Oklahoma, to set up her law practice. The daughter of an esteemed and high powered judge, she is still considered an outsider, even though she was born in the small town.
Nate Marcel is a newly retired FBI agent who has moved to Curry to take up ranching. He has had Ellie in his sights since she has arrived--only Ellie has been pushing Nate away, afraid of the feeling he invokes in her perfectly ordered life.
Then people start dying, and while they seem to be unrelated and unfortunate deaths, the agent in Nate sees a pattern. He doesn't think they're unrelated or accidental--and he fears Ellie may be next.
This book is the third in the Agency series, although they really aren't connected at all except that Nate was in the FBI. I had trouble getting into this book. There was nothing wrong with it--the characters were likable and the story had a good premise--it just didn't grab me. It was well written, and I was a bit surprised at the ending--the book definitely picked up steam at the last few chapters. An entertaining way to spend the afternoon, but not quite as good as the previous books in the series. I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5
