Clanton succeeds again with another installment of Narwhal and Jelly. This time the best friends find new friends, but it doesn't feel so great for Jelly. Being friends with more than one person at as time can be really hard and not always easy to understand. The introduction of Otter and Rocky was an excellent way to showcase how to handle new friends challenges. The best part about being best friends is being together even when it's with other friends. I loved the introduction of Otter and his awesome otter facts.

My daughters, who are 9 years old, read this book with me. This is their review:
"I really liked the story. I liked how Narwhal met a new friend. I also liked that the author put some true facts in the story. Narwhal is a great character. Narwhal is very polite and has good manners. The pictures are awesome. I really like that it looks like a comic."

I thought this was a fun book for kids. Its easy to read which inspires kids to read. And i loved the message of friendship and dealing with jealousy.

Narwhal's Otter Friend is the 4th book featuring the charming and delightful Narwhal and Jelly. Written and illustrated by Ben Clanton, it has an estimated release date in early Feb 2019. It's fully illustrated in graphic novel style, 64 pages with easily read text, and available in hardcover format. The story is adorable and certainly familiar to almost every kid. What happens when your best friend makes another new friend? Of course Jelly's jealous when Narwhal meets Otter! That's huge stuff when you're 5 years old (or in some cases, considerably older)! I like that there's an intermission roughly in the middle of the book with a lot of cool factoids about real life otters and jellyfish. There's also a couple page long story toward the end of the book (as in the previous books) illustrated in a very different style to differentiate it which reminded me of a similar technique Dav Pilkey uses for cutaway stories inside of his books (as the main characters drawing or telling another story inside the main story).

It's just such an exuberant book. The illustrations are wonderful and the story itself is a lot deeper and more meaningful than the happy bouncy surface would imply. I think this book (and indeed the other books in this series) would make worthwhile reading group or classroom reads for younger readers. The characters are so relatable and real and the fact that they're anthropomorphic makes them more accessible. There is jealousy, conflict, and resolution and all are presented in a way that is understandable and non-threatening to a young reader.

This would be a superlative pick for a library read also.

I am a huge fan!

Five stars.

Narwhal and Jelly are one of my favourite Juvenile series to recommend to emerging readers and this book does not disappoint! Mr Clanton continues developing the characters and making them more relatable and realistic for younger readers to connect to. I eagerly anticipate the next book!

Another charming adventure with Narwhal! I am a big fan of each of these books and we have them in our library. The art is adorable, the story is simple and fun, and I love the addition of animal facts.

This was such a cute children's book and the artwork was so bright and colourful. I had not read any of the other books in this series and was surprised to read some cute facts about otters in this one. I liked how it added some educational information in a fun way.

I think this may be my new favorite Narwhal and Jelly book! A simple but common topic for the age range it caters to, Jelly becomes upset and feels left out when Narwhal becomes friends with Otter. I liked how the story continued throughout the whole book, instead of being two separate tales as it sometimes is. Narwhal and Jelly is a treat for all ages, and I look forward to even more of their adventures!

Narwhal and Jelly are always a hit! This latest book deals with the challenges of your best friend making another friend and all of the confusing feelings that stirs up. It's also full of some interesting facts about otters and the environments they live in. I'm always recommending this series because it manages to be silly but also deal with real life situations and educate all at the same time, a difficult task to succeed in.

The best part was the facts section! These books are guaranteed to make you smile. I would recommend to a child who was interested in starting to read graphic novels for the first time and wanted a laugh.

Thank you to Tundra Books (Penguin Random House Canada) and NetGalley for providing me with an e-ARC to read and review. Narwhal's Otter Friend by Ben Clanton is set to be published February 5, 2019.

I love this series so much. It continues to get better and funnier with each book published.

I was laughing from the very first line of text, "Hum dee-doo. Waffley-woo!" There are many adorable words that Ben Clanton makes up. And the puns! So many egg puns! They're cheesy in a good way - the kind of cheesy you can't help but giggle at.

I especially like that this story has a message for all ages. At some time or another you may have struggled to cope with good friends meeting new friends, feeling that you are losing a friend in the process. I think this teaches in a small way the importance of learning self-worth.

My favorite line has to be when Narwhal says, "I think 'Waffles! Waffles! Waffles!' would make a good motto!" I, of course, agree. The writing is just too too good and pairs well with the animated art.

I hope this series continues for a long time. The Narwhal and Jelly books have definitively been one of my favorite series of 2018. I highly recommend reading these delightful and "funtastic" novels.

This review is in 2 parts. The first part is my 8 year old daughter's opinions on the book BUT for total transparency I thought you should know that she's already a big fan of the series. Finally, the 2nd part will be where I throw in my own two cents.

Part 1- Miss A's favorite part was the section with facts regarding the animals found in the book. She wished that there were facts about her favorite character, Narwhal. She really liked the message that even though Narwhal found an exciting new friend, Jelly was still the best part of their upcoming big adventure. She wished that it included the three going on the adventures they dreamed of in more detail. She appreciated how the story added elements of the facts previously given and thought that Rocky should have gone with Otty like in the facts. The superhero fantasy was a huge hit and she wanted me to add that she would definitely like to read a whole book about that on its own. Her least favorite part was when Jelly got jellie (har har har) and stormed off looking for a new friend. Her least favorite character was the evil egg and she cheered when he met his watery end. Overall: she rated it a 4.5 out of 5 Stars. She said that it was lacking the pizazz of the first book and that even though her favorite books are chapter books like the Harry Potter series, she still loves graphic novels like this!

Part 2- Okay, I know that I'm not the target demographic here so I rely a good deal on my Little for a more accurate gauge on how the book is fairing BUT on the whole I thought it was very cute. I was a little disappointed with Crab. He appeared to be clinically depressed and it seemed like a friendship with him would be completely unattainable. Depressed and/or cantankerous people need friendships and loving too! Even more so when they are young and malleable. Anyway, diatribe aside, I was pleasantly impressed by the book and enjoyed watching my daughter's delight even more. I especially relished the smatterings of giggles the book coaxed from her which is pure music to any parent's ears. Also, it was longer than what I was expecting which turned out to be a very welcomed surprise. Nothing ruins enjoyment of a book quite like an abrupt ending, it's jarring and frustrating especially for young readers. Would I have bought this in a store? Definitely! My avid reader adored it and I approve of anything that increases her enjoyment of the written word. Overall: I give it 4.5 Stars for its ability to not only elicit giggles while engaging a wide range of readers but feed their brains with wonder and knowledge too.

This is my first Narwhal and Jelly Book and I am not sure how that’s happened! This story has some of my favorite sea animals; otters, turtles, jelly fish and of course, a waffle-loving narwhal! It includes a super cute lesson on friendship in the story too, that it’s ok to have more than one friend!
One of the interesting facts I learned from this graphic novel is that a group of otters is called a raft! How cool is that?! We have a family of otters not far from where we camp and had so much fun photographing them this last summer.
Thank you to Penguin Random House and NetGalley for this advanced copy! I will be looking for this series the next time I visit a bookstore! My opinions are my own.
This will be featured on my campfire blog Friday December 14, 2018.

Another edition to Clanton's charming Narwal and Jelly series! These characters are too cute for their own good. In this story, Narwhal makes a new friend and Jelly feels a bit left out. Reminiscent of Mo Willems, "My New Friend Is So Fun." This is a great book to teach young kids that you can have more than one great friend in your world.

My children and I have loved reading the other Narwhal books, and book #4 in this series certainly did not disappoint! The Narwhal books really stand above other children's graphic novels in that they are educational, entertaining, and have humor that is appropriate for all ages. Both my 4 year old son and 8 year old daughter love these books, and they are both able to take away something from reading them (which is rare). Highly recommend!

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

The fourth book in the Narwhal series is just as good as the previous volumes; this is recommended for younger kids and could be used an an introduction to graphic novels. It has some cute facts about otters, and like the others has a message about friendship.

I read this, sharing parts, with my kindergartener and she loved it :) We both think the art was so cute, and we’re excited to see an otter join in. I liked seeing Jelly try to deal with his jealousy over Narwhal’s new friend. Perfect for early readers.

Thank you Net Galley and publishers for an advanced reader copy.

Narwhal is such a cheerful character and like all the other installments, this one is a winner!
Otter is such a sweet character and readers will love the sea otter facts shared kn the book. I like the concept and believe Clanton does a great job highlighting the struggles when our friends make new friends.

Sure to be a hit with young and old readers!!
