Ever since Gone Girl, the book market has been flooded with suspense novels with damaged characters doing terrible things to one another. I'm a big fan of revenge stories, and I was attracted to the synopsis of the book. I enjoyed the story, but I was expecting it to be more of a thriller. The book jacket looks like an imitation of The Wife Between Us or the new bestseller, The Anonymous Girl, but the book is not as suspenseful as either of those novels. Instead, it's more of a story about retribution and misunderstandings. The two main characters are both deceptive and rather unpleasant--not the kind of people I want to be friends with--but I enjoyed the storyline and couldn't wait to see how it all played out. All in all, a pretty decent read.

I absolutely loved Pretty Revenge. This book was outside of Emily's usual work, but as with the rest of her novels, I was not able to put this down. The title explains it all.

Told in alternative perspectives Kerrie/Olivia spots Jordana on tv and decides to move to NYC to get revenge on what Jordana stole from her as a teen.

I adore when novels such as these are told with different POV's.

I don't want to give any spoilers, but this is one book you will want to buy come July 2nd.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Loved this book! If you are looking for a cross between Gone Girl and Big Little Lies this is it! Told from the perspective of dueling main characters, it has a little of everything! Drama, suspense, heartache, love story and ultimately revenge leads to redemption! This is the first time I have read this author but will be looking forward to future titles! Thanks again for granting me access to this early read!!!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this fabulous ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Kerrie/Olivia is a trouble soul that has her nana's death weighing on it. In order to get revenge for her trouble and unfortunate pass, she went to seek revenge on her nemesis, Jordan/Jordana. Olivia reinvented herself by moving from Connecticut to New York City in hoping to get a job as Jordana's assistant.

High and powerful Jordana is a successful wedding planner in a loveless marriage. She has already reinvented herself since the age of seventeen when she runaway from an abusive household. Lucky for her, she came across a couple that treated her like their own daughter. From there, she married well and built her career from scratch in hope that one day she would runaway again, but this time from her husband.

This was an easy read but definitely not Emily Liebert best work by any means. She is one of my favorite author. However, this story was shallow. The reason for revenge was very weak. The back story did not have much details of any of the main characters. The ending was weak and full of holes. There was no way Jordana could have kept any type of money after her husband was prosecuted. The FBI would have frozen every single dime of that family as she was still married to John. Olivia plan to destroyed Jordana was never truly thought out. She got lucky that John happened to work for Arthur and that Arthur was crooked. The file she found was pure dumb luck. So in all what was her exact plan for revenge again? I wanted to like this story but it was bad.

I actually liked this book a lot more than I thought I would. Beginning with allusions to a tragedy that must be avenged, we meet the 2 main characters. Related through their past, one feels a terrible sense of loss and betrayal and is determined to avenge a past horror that she believes her friend caused.

Then we hear a little about the other one, how amazing her life appears and how utterly not like that it is. The thoughtful plan to exact revenge is pretty clever, despite how soulless it seems. She carefully takes one step after another to set up her enemy.

Simultaneously, they find some mutual interest, maybe even like, that could complicate the plan for revenge for one and escape for the other.

As the different elements of the past are revealed, it turns out lots of things are not as they seem, and then again, some are. I did enjoy the ending, which was a nice surprise as well. It was a fun read.

Pretty Revenge is a suspenseful tale of revenge and retribution and will keep any reader up long into the night! I enjoyed the twists, turns, and the way in which the story was told. I very much recommend this novel to anyone who loves a psychological thriller.

Thank you to #NetGalley for this ARC of Pretty Revenge

Emily Liebert provides a narrative of revenge and retribution, told from the alternating vantage points of her two main characters, Kerrie and Jordana. Liebert knowingly clouds the reader’s opinion of which of the two woman holds merit for their deceiving actions by providing a look into their troubled, entangled pasts.

It is perhaps misleading and a stretch of genre to categorize this novel as a thriller. While the narrative does hold some aspects of mystery, the pace of the plot lacks that anticipatory feel one tends to seek from typical novels in this genre. Still a good read with an interesting story line. 4 stars.

Pretty Revenge
by Emily Liebert
Description
The name of the game is revenge—no matter the cost—in this emotionally charged thriller reminiscent of The Wife Between Us and The Perfect Nanny.

Kerrie O’Malley, jobless and in an unfulfilling relationship, can isolate the singular moment in her life when things veered off course—the night she was irrevocably wronged by someone she looked up to. Eighteen years later, when Kerrie sees the very woman who destroyed her life on television, a fire ignites inside her. The stakes are high. The risks are perilous. But she’ll stop at nothing to achieve the retribution she deserves.

Jordana Pierson is a gilded New Yorker who appears to have it all: wealth, glamour, a successful and handsome husband, and a thriving wedding concierge business. Her record is spotless. Her business is flourishing. No one knows the truth about her and the dark shadows of her past.

No one, that is, except Kerrie.

Exploring just how far someone will go for vengeance, Pretty Revenge is a riveting, compulsively readable novel bursting with twists and turns and plenty of suspense.
The book was not a big thriller or such. It has the two Kerrie and Jordana. I felt for both of them. There was plenty of suspense and with no spoilers, you will enjoy the read.
Thank you, NetGalley and the Publisher for an advance copy for my honest review.

I knew from page one that I would enjoy Pretty Revenge by Emily Liebert. Her writing is funny and descriptive, the story moves quickly and there is never a dull moment. I stayed up late last night to finish this because I had to know how the author was going to sew it all up.

Kerrie was wronged by a girl in her neighborhood when she was a little girl and she never forgot what Jordan did. So when she gets the opportunity to work for Jordan’s super successful wedding concierge business, she takes it. She can plot her revenge on Jordan, who now goes by Jordana, and set everything straight. She will ruin Jordana’s life just how her life was ruined. Only she didn’t expect to love the work and like Jordan. Still, after the horrible thing Jordan did, Kerrie knows she must seek revenge.

The chapters alternate between Kerrie, now Olivia, and Jordana who is not as completely evil as Kerrie thinks. The author did a great job of writing two sympathetic characters, you want them both to succeed in their goals.

Here are the official details:

I highly recommend this novel, it was fun and entertaining. While it wasn’t a thriller with dead bodies piling up and weird events unfolding, it was definitely a book that captured my interest and I think its the perfect book to read over the course of an afternoon.

I thought this book was going to provide a suspenseful thrill ride. Where the writing was just fine, the plot fell flat and the characters really didn’t evolve or entertain me. The characters weren’t the only thing that bothered me, but the cattiness (although there was still nothing stand out even in the revenge), was stereotypical and disappointing. No one was a stand out character that will stay with me now that the book is over. It was like a reality show binge—someway entertaining, but in no way enlightening or original. I was let down more than anything by this book that I had heard so much about and had anticipated it being so much more than it ended up being.

Excellent book! One of those that you can’t help buy root for everyone, even the bad ones! Like an episode of one of the many reality shows, of tons of wealth, and a good amount of what lengths people go to get there, without even thinking of whom they may hurt! Loved the way the revenge unfolded and the glimpses of the reality that so many as perfection, when it’s anything close! Excellent book!
Will be highly recommending, using in a challenge, and buzzing it up in Chapter Chatter Pub!

There isn't any real"mystery" in this novel. The story is told by alternating narrators- Kerrie, or "Olivia", and Jordan, aka "Jordana". You are aware from the first chapter that Kerrie is out for revenge, although you don't know EXACTLY why until about half way through the book. I had a hard time rooting for Kerrie, even knowing she felt so supremely wronged. I felt, by the tree me she was able to exact her revenge, that she could have taken the moral high road, but no such luck. I enjoyed reading this, however, even though I felt at times the author tried a little too hard. I finished it I'm a day, so no matter what I complained about, I clearly liked it on some level. Very easy read, and will appeal to a wide variety of people. I'll definitely seek put more from this author.

This is the first book I have read from this author. I really enjoyed it! I loved the whole mystery of not knowing what happened when the girls were young until later in the book. I can't wait to read her other published books! #netgally #prettyrevenge
