This was my first time reading a Disney Manga and I quite enjoyed it! This manga adaptation of the movie Monsters, Inc. brought back a lot of childhood memories. As a kid, I remembered thinking that Mike looked way scarier than Sully and I'm glad to see that the manga version of Mike is actually really cute.

Overall, I thought the graphics were cute and well done. The storyline was good (exactly the same as the movie as far as I can remember) but somehow felt really short... although with that being said, I haven't watched the movie in years so it's hard for me to say if any scenes were cut out.

I also liked that the end of this manga included a bunch of "sneak peaks" for other Disney Mangas such as Wall-E, Stitch, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Would recommend this manga to those who like reading graphic novels and love Monsters, Inc. as well as anyone who hasn't watched the movie and want a quick read to find out what it's all about.

Manga texts are not for me. I struggle to follow along, which made reading this difficult. I think fans of Monsters Inc will enjoy this, as well as students and fans of manga texts. Otherwise, I would say this is going to be a challenge for the general population to enjoy.
Almost half of the book is previews for other manga books. I am not sure if this will be changed for the final copy of the book. I am also hoping they have it in color, as I think color truly adds to the story.

This manga is fantastic for reaching and motivating students in a time where graphic novels are exceedingly popular. It takes a unique approach to sharing a Disney movie that is loved by many. Students who love graphic novels and chapter books with pictures and graphics. This type of book is not for everyone but there is definitely an audience within upper elementary and middle grade students.

I love monsters inc. I just wasnt a fan in this type of style. I don't think this style is my sort of thing. But over all for others who enjoy this I think it was good.

I loved the movie and the book was a great way to go back memory lane. It made me want to watch the movie once more. I did expect it to be coloured but nevertheless it was still a fun read.

*thank you to Netgalley and Diamond Book Distributors for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

3 stars.

I think this is really only going to appeal to manga fans or serious Monsters Inc fans. Those in the middle area probably won't enjoy it so much. The details in the illustrations seemed a bit too basic, even for manga, but the story was true enough to the original story which I quite liked. Overall, it was good and I did enjoy it.

This is my first manga book and it is definitely a style to get used to. The artist style was nice. It is easy to connect with the movie. It is easy to imagine the scene of each page in the movie. It was easy to follow and not a word for word repeat of the book which was nice. Thank you NetGalley for the free digital copy to review.

I am not familiar with the manga style and had a difficult time adapting to it. It was plainly stated in the description but I didn’t even know what manga was. As such, I was unable to review it adequately. I believe the target age range may also have this difficulty. The physical book may make reading it easier than the Kindle version I was using.

I do note, though, that the illustrations were broad and friendly. Flipping through it, it seemed to follow the movie.

I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affects my opinion or ratings of this book.

Loved the movie, love manga, but this tome just felt like it missed magic.
The whole thing seemed a bit... greedy.

Just remembering that those were my impressions and opinion as a reader :)

Rating: 5 stars

PROS
I think the highlight of this manga is the art. Monsters Inc just got a lot fluffier and I loved it. The scenes are a funnier adaptation from our masterpiece and I found it all so beautifully done! Disney and manga lovers will need a copy of this volume on their shelves asap!

CONS
Unfortunately, the story was a bit reduced. I understand it, as it takes longer to tell a story through manga than it does with a book, but my Disney heart hurt.

COVER ANALYSIS
I simply adored this artist’s drawing style! It is sooo fluffy! I think that creating a manga version of a 3D character is way harder than creating one for a 2D character, so I’m enchanted with what I saw from the start! =D

RECOMMENDED FOR
Disney lovers!

This is a manga-style comic book of the story of the Monsters Inc. Disney Pixar movie. It reproduces the story of the movie exactly, edited for time, and follows the plot accurately.

It is the story of two monsters, Sulley and Mike, who scare children for a living to produce energy in their monster world. A child, a toxic and dangerous creature, accidentally enters their world. A large manhunt for the child is underway, but Mike and Sulley grow attached to her and try to protect her until she can get back home safely. In the process, they uncover a conspiracy that threatens their own safety.

This was my first time reading manga and the back-to-front. Right-to-left took a little getting used to. It’s target audience is elementary age children, but since they are beginning readers, I think the “backwards” reading of manga could be difficult to grasp, IF this would be their first time reading manga.

I think this was a fun book and I would recommend to elementary age children familiar with manga.

Thanks to NetGalley for a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest review.

While cute and pretty true to the film, this would not be good for any young readers who have not seen the movie. It would be very hard to follow for those who are brand new to the Monster's Inc world, and not because of the art or manga-format but because the story jumps a bit and misses some plot-holes.

This magna about Boo and monsters is comic version of movie.
.
Story is aptly illustrated and you tend to imagine scene of movie at each page. It is stikingly similar. It seems screenplay of movie is fixed as two dimensional work on pages of magna.
.
Innovation and any new additions are missing.
It is hard to draw monster factory and its so many gates and strange ghosts but cartoonist has done ample justice to story.
.
When fast movements and gates are drawn, some of the fizz of magna is lost. That is expected after one has seen great animatios in the movie.
.
.Overall nice magna but not a blow you away kind of art. No big characters or full page highlight event.

This was my first experience with Disney Manga. Was sure what to expect, but ended up really enjoying and so did my oldest child. Monsters Inc. is one of her favorite movies so it's always fun to read books with her about her favorites.

It was a cute enough book, but didn't love the artwork enough to totally love it. But it was enjoyable and something kids might enjoy. It was different having Disney manga characters though.

This book was received as an ARC from Diamond Books in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

I am a huge fan of Disney Books especially Disney Manga. It was such a pleasure to revisit the story of Monsters Inc. with outstanding artwork of the original characters retelling the story of Sully, Mike and the rest of the monsters collecting more screams so they can use them as power to keep their industry going. One night Sully and Mike come across Boo in a scare and she ends up following them back to Monsters Inc. and chaos breaks loose. It is so heartfelt to see the monster and human relationship flourish and blossom as Boo and Sully's did. We can't wait to have this be added to our graphic novel collection.

This will definitely be considered adding to our JGraphic Novel collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

This was a first time experience with a Disney Manga and my kids enjoyed revisiting the original Monsters, Inc. story. The illustrations were neat and it was easy to read. We noticed a few parts in the movie that weren't shared in this book, but it was still really good. We're looking forward to more in the future.

It took me an hour to finally find adobe digital edition that would download to my laptop and once I was able to finally get this open I was happy. I watched Monsters, INC and loved Boo, she was my favorite character so when I saw that this was on the request list, I wanted to be accepted to read this and I wasn't disappointed. The graphics are amazing.

I didn't know that when I got this downloaded, I was going to see a little more sneak peeks of Toy Story, Wall-E, Stitch, The nightmare before Christmas. All the graphics are amazing and it's worth reading. If you love comic books, this would be something for you. I can't wait for when it comes out so I can go buy it and have it for my collection.

I really enjoyed this! The pictures were great! The artist is very talented and I really enjoyed seeing it in manga form. The plot line was also quite engaging and fun to read. Both my young kids and I loved it!

A must have for Monsters, Inc. Fans!

This is the fourth Disney Manga that I was able to read and I'm always excited to read these adaptations because I want to compare them with the original movie. I'm not sure on how many times I've watched the Monster's Inc. in the Disney Channel, hence, I think I was able to memorize already how the characters exactly look like and the flow of the story of the film.

I like how this graphic novel accurately follows the story however, I don't like how Mike looks a bit slimmer in some comic panels and it wasn't able to replicate how adorable Boo is just like in the movie. Hiromi Yamafuji was able to illustrate well the rest of the other characters: Randy, Celia, Mr. Waternoose, and Roz.

The young kids who are the target audience of this manga will love this adaptation and it is advisable that parents should try to make their kids read this first before watching the movie. This comic book is a great way to make them not only read but also to test them while watching the film if they could remember the stories they have read.
