Although I am a completely different type of traveler, I was curious to read this book for the different emphasis. Those misadventures in cheap travel do have a very strong biological component, but the stories as such do not reflect more than that. I was proved wrong in my search for something off the beaten path, as the book does not stand out from its literary/travel writing aim: it doesn´t bring anything valuable in terms of travel writing, travel memories and even toilets and showers knowledge around the world. Except that, indeed, some of them are not working.

This was such a fun book to read not just because it focuses on the bathroom and its surfaces, but also because of the way it is written. I loved the tone of this book and how it kept me wanting to read more and more. Loved this and its strange subject!

Thank you Solificato and Netgalley for this ARC.

This was a really funny read. I cringed at some of others misfortunes while laughing out loud at their strife! Having experienced some hilarious, sad and gross toilet stories in my travels I could relate well.

A unique but fun read.

This book was pretty kitschy, which you can pretty much tell from the title. I love travel and everything about it so this appealed to me. I love the cover and subject matter was definitely unique. I did find some of these tales quite funny and others were somewhat educational, but overall this fell somewhat short of my expectation.s. Clearly this man loves to travel and has a unique perspective on things so I would definitely pick up something else from him. A nice change of pace.

Because the premise is so strange, I had to try this one. It's just as odd as I thought it would be. Too far fetched for me. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

I picked this up based on a few other reviews, and, unfortunately, this did nothing for me. I read only the first story and found it almost silly to the point of being unfunny. I really didn't want to waste my time with another story.

Hilarious to say the least though a little gross descriptions at times. Never imagined so much could happen over toilet seats. Highly dramatic and enticing.

Short stories of misadventures in Morocco, Matthew Felix is not a luxury traveler. But even traveling on a budget fails to explain why he has so many unforgettable experiences on the toilet, in the tub, or under the shower. From Matthews unorthodox bathing practices in Paris and Istanbul to his nightmare while squatting in Morocco, to the Dead Sea shower incident that led to an arrest, Porcelain Travels is something hilarious, occasionally shocking, and always entertaining. Matthew’s prose is a dance between the richness and delicacy of poetry and the bawdy, arerbic wit of a standup comic.

I am one of those people who has to know where the nearest bathroom is, just in case. I may never need it, but I’d rather know than be left in the lurch. Felix presents his hilarious stories of looking for a loo in his travels around the globe. And when I say hilarious, I mean hilarious for the reader. If this stuff had happened to me, I’d be puking or crying, or both. A reminder of why the bathroom, WC whatever you happen to call it was once referred to the necessary, this is a must read for any traveler who has had to make some dubious choices (or any woman who has ever been to any event, ever, only to find three working toilets for three hundred women)
