Now, for most of this book I had a love hate relationship with Theo’s character. While I absolutely LOVED this British Duke, I couldn’t help but be on Team Bonnie. Bonnie who had been hurt so much by her previous relationship was here blindly going into another relationship with a man who couldn’t stand up to his money climbing and match making mother, this woman put Jane Austen’s Lady Catherine to shame and I couldn’t believe that Theo would really marry another woman all because of his badly placed hero complex.

Like Bonnie, I couldn’t help but fall more and more in love with Theo as the chapters went on, how he woo’d Bonnie with the English countryside was just too much for my own sensibilities and I’m so happy that in the end we all got that much deserved happily ever after and that Theo chose right.

I love a great tale of “Unanswered Prayers” turning into a “Happily Ever After”! Bonnie and Theo’s story starts and doesn’t, when they meet through Logan in Getting Hot with a Scot, as Theo is Logan’s best friend. When Bonnie meets Theo she is engaged to her longtime boyfriend. Bonnie is fiercely faithful and seems to have an extreme dislike for Theo.

In, Smitten by the Brit, Bonnie finds herself single and taking a job in England, where the handsome Brit, Theo, just happens to live. They find themselves in a Jane Austen worthy romance but will their social status be too great a gap to bridge?

Bonnie is my absolute favorite character! She is a quirky, adorable literary professor with a love for romance novels. With red hair, she is the perfect “Ariel” to Theo’s “Prince Eric” and you’re cheering for them throughout the book to live happily ever after. ❤️ It’s hard not to fall for Theo too. He has such a strong sense of honor towards his family obligations even if it’s threatening his growing love for Bonnie. You’ll be on the edge of your seat to see how this love story ends‼️

I didn't love the first book in this series, but I was very interested in finding out more about Bonnie and Theo, whom we met in Getting Hot with the Scot. I really liked the chemistry between them, but overall I found the romance lacking. There wasn't the emotional pull I expected after their scenes in the previous book and the early part of this novel.

They didn't spend a lot of time together on page, and I think that's why the romance didn't pull me in. I enjoyed their personal journeys, but overall I was pretty underwhelmed. Johnson shows flashes of brilliance here, and I'm sure she'll only improve as time goes on. In the meantime, I think I'll hold of on continuing the series for now.

This was a ton of fun - I loved how playfully Johnson mixed in princess / fairy tale tropes and connections, and it's one of the best "maybe a conversation would clear a lot up between these two!" books I've read (to be clear, they DO have excellent, flirty, kind, caring conversations about a lot.) I've really enjoyed seeing the strong female friendships at the center of this series, too.

Another fun read, this book follows the story of Bonnie and Theo. We first saw them as secondary characters in the previous book in this series (although not necessary to have read it first), and it was enjoyable to pickup their story and watch it play out. Both are really likable characters, struggling with their own issues. The chemistry between them is really good, and well-written. I really felt empathy for each of them, and liked following their developing romance. A delightful story. I received a complimentary copy of this book. This is my freely given, honest review.

Super cute transatlantic romance that picks up with the friends from book one. Quick, funny, flirty with a happy ending.

I watch Hallmark Channel religiously and this fit in so well with it, so you know I loved it.

I love slow burn relationships and this had it. But it also had wonderful friendships and family relationships in it as well and I love when there is more to the book than just a relationship.

This follows on from a book about a small group of girl friends, one of whom meets a handsome Scot, and in this story the Scottish lad's best friend gets romantically connected with another of the girls. I like particularly that the girls are always there for one another, don't fall apart into couples and singles. I also enjoyed that the lady is a professor of English - though American characters are a feature of this series, appealing to two audiences - and an intelligent, educated person like her also deserves hot romance. In this tale, the gentleman is a titled Englishman, and we can all agree that marrying outside the immediate social circle is a good way to avoid inbreeding. Several scenes are set in England.

Have fun, the story is a mature romance with positive lessons. I downloaded an e-ARC from Net Galley. This is an unbiased review.

This was such an adorable book. As an avid Jane Austen fan, I thoroughly enjoyed the touches of Austen throughout this novel.

As always, I appreciate the opportunity to read and review this title.

Bonnie was set to get married to her childhood sweetheart and secure the future she had been dreaming of. Coming home she never expected the sight that awaited her. Taking advantage of an opportunity she headed to England and reconnected with Theo. He was everything she denied herself and just what she needed to leave the past firmly behind her. Would he be able to put himself first or be forever held prisoner to uphold obligations to his family. Great series that will follow the lives of friends as they find the love of their lives.

Couldn't finish, lacked substance even for a romance novel. The main characters lacked depth. The only enjoyable thing was how adorable Bonnie Blythe's name is.

This was an adorable story. I am new to the author Melonie Johnson, and I have not yet read the first book of this series Getting Hot with the Scot. However, that did not stop me from diving into Smitten by the Brit. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters. I have a weakness for men with accents, so Theo was right up my alley. British, aristocratic, polite yet passionate and sexy. Theo and Bonnie had met a year prior in London when her best friend fell in love with his best friend (Getting Hot with the Scot). However, Bonnie was engaged at the time, so despite the sparks, nothing happened. The two reunite a year later and after being cheated on by her fiance, Bonnie is unexpectedly single. Their interactions are funny and sweet. Despite the back story keeping them both apart, I was rooting for them to get together. This is a lovely, heart warming love story! I'll definitely be reading Getting Hot with the Scot next!

Smitten by the Brit is the second book in Sometimes In Love series by Melonie Johnson. This series gets better and better.
I enjoyed book one, but I loved Bonnie and her sexy Brit, even more!

Bonnie who has been with her fiancé for more than 20 years, has only one wish and that’s to have HER wedding. The wedding she’s planned, the kids she’s already named, the life she has planned. But it seems like that may never be when she walks in on her fiancé in bed with another woman. Bonnies life, her carefully planned life is over in it seems like seconds. Thanks to the hot Brit she can’t stop thinking about she has a very sexy time on her trip to England and she realizes that maybe friends with Benefits may have its perks. But soon she starts to fall in love with that sexy Brit and with the heartbreak that she’s already experienced she’s not sure if trusting her heart is right.

I think that for the most part, I did enjoy this book, it was a little predictable but there’s nothing wrong with that.
Bonnie wasn’t my favorite like Cassie was, but I still liked her enough to enjoy this book. I just sometimes found Bonnie to be a little annoying and I tended to skip over her or just skim her parts. Theo was definitely cute and I like her very much.

I love that this was such a light read and I finished it in one sitting, I totally recommend this.

This was my favorite in the trilogy because I loved Theo's character. It was a bit reminiscent of The Royal We, one of my favorite books. It was a light, fun read that I really enjoyed.

Johnson has crafted a perfect story about two people who often get so focused on what they should do that they forget that what they want to do can be far more important. Book nerds will rejoice in the Austen and Shakespeare references even as they lament Bonnie and Theo’s slow burn. This book is for anyone who finds Duke’s attractive, and stays for men in kilts.

Readers are first introduced to both Bonnie and Theo in the first book of the Sometimes in Love series, Getting Hot With the Scot, only this time it is their story. The initial attraction between the two protagonists in Smitten by the Brit is obvious, only Bonnie is engaged to her childhood sweetheart and Theo’s mother is bent on marrying her son to a wealthy heiress. When Bonnie discovers her fiancé in bed with another woman, she calls off her engagement, leaving the door wide open for Theo. A summer teaching position at Cambridge brings her even closer to Theo.

I really like how author Melonie Johnson delves into the hearts and minds of her characters, including as they tackle their inner demons, so to speak. Both characters have a lot of growing to do over the course of the novel. Bonnie is figuring out who she is and what she wants independent of anyone else; and Theo, who has long carried the weight of his family’s title and financial troubles on his shoulders, must choose between his own happiness or playing hero to his family. Like in real life, everything is not so cut and dry for either character, and I liked that the author incorporates this in her novels, finding a way to give her protagonists—and everyone else--their happy ending. I love Bonnie’s character—of course, any Jane Austen fan is sure to draw me to her. And Theo is quite the catch with his kind heart and always wanting to do the right thing. Plus, he really knows how to charm a woman! It was good to visit a little with Cassie and Logan again, characters from the first book. I thoroughly enjoyed Smitten by the Brit, and am eager to dive into the third book in the series.

I really enjoyed all of this series. It's very upbeat but balances that extremely well with realistic feelings and real life emotions that breaks through very regularly. I thought the author did a great job managing that balance delicately.

This is the second book in the series! This can be read on its own without reading the first one.
I loved the first book and knew I had to read this one! It was equally as enjoyable and I look forward to reading more from this author!
