Smitten by the brit was my first book by Melonie Johnson. In the beginning I had a little trouble getting into the story but after a while I got totally sucked in. I really liked the story and I want to read more by this author.

Bonnie’s life comes crashing down around her when she finds her long-time-never-set-the-date fiancé having sex in their apartment, on her grandmother’s quilt, with another woman. She walks out right then and there, questioning how long things have been falling apart and she didn’t realize it.

Theo has been smitten with Bonnie since they first met in Europe the previous summer. Now in Chicago for a fundraising event and to help plan his best friend’s wedding, Theo can’t keep his hands to himself when he finds out Bonnie left her fiancé. But she’s reluctant, and he doesn’t want to be just a rebound hookup, so the pair take a break and start things more slowly when she travels to England for work.

Smitten by the Brit is the second story in the Sometimes in Love series. Although a standalone romance, Bonnie and Theo first met in book 1: Getting Hot with the Scot, which gives readers a bit of background for the pair. Linked together because they are Best Man/Maid of Honor for their BFFs’ wedding, they are drawn together through physical attraction. However, once Bonnie moves to Oxford for the summer, it gives the pair time to get to know one another on a deeper level. Theo adores Bonnie and proves he is worth the risk with his sweet and romantic dates.

I like Bonnie and Theo, especially during their time together in England. They open up to one another and a genuine relationship develops. The little dates and trips are creative and fun. And it’s easy to see why the pair fits so well together. I like that Bonnie remains cautious and hesitant after being hurt so badly by the man she thought she’d spend forever with. And I love how Theo recognizes this and takes his time to win her over.

So what’s the catch you may ask… well, here’s the thing. Theo is a duke and carries the weight of his family’s financial burdens on his shoulders. He has a manipulative mother who plays on Theo’s guilt to get what she wants. She’s old school, high society and expects Theo to marry someone of “worth.” Eventually this drives a wedge between our couple, and while it fits the story, I didn’t like the way Theo totally ghosts Bonnie. However, it’s the way they find their way back to one another that really rubbed me the wrong way. No spoilers here, but the climax of the book sort of pissed me off and left me a bit disappointed.

In the end, Smitten by the Brit is a strong sophomore title from Ms. Johnson, and although the penultimate scene disappointed a bit, the overall book is enjoyable.

My Rating: B, Liked It

There was a tension when the story started and I was heartbroken for Bonnie.

Good thing there was Theo! I actually liked how their chemistry started on. Bonnie is moving on from her ex-boyfriend, living on her dream job and finding herself again.

Theo on the other hand was quite a surprise! Hands down with his personality of not being pushy and truly a gentleman.

I'm perfectly fine with the ending, not the one unexpected, that's why I was truly happy.

I liked this one much more than the first- Getting Hot with the Scot. This one had relationships that were well built and more of a story line. There was great chemistry between Theo and Bonnie. 4 stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

I love this book. It's a beautiful and romantic story well written, It's a lot of fun. I loved the characters. I really enjoyed reading this book.

I have never rooted for a couple more than I rooted for Bonnie and Theo. The attraction between these two has been growing since the first novel, and I was so excited when I saw that they were going to be the featured couple in the second novel.

Bonnie's character development throughout this novel was really great to see. You get to see her grow from a super self-conscious girl with an asshole fiance, to a strong, independent woman who is sure of herself and of what she wants. I liked this one even better than the first!

The second book in the series was Smitten by the Brit. I was very excited to read this one because I really liked Bonnie in the first book. I could tell that this book was going to focus on her breaking up with Gabe, her fiancé, and getting together with Theo. While I feel like these types of stories can sometimes feel sad or stale, Johnson did a great job. She hit the perfect balance between feeling sad for Bonnie about losing the relationship and the future she thought she was going to have and the excitement of finding someone new. I also liked that there was some focus on Bonnie’s career and life. The only part that I was a little meh on was Theo and his family. His attitude behind having to save his family made sense, but for some reason it didn’t quite connect with me. Looking back on the series as a whole, I think that this might be my favorite of the three.

I really enjoyed this book!

This is a modern day fairy tale romance about Bonnie and Theo. Bonnie is an everyday woman, who works as an English professor. After enduring a heartbreak, she decides to head out to England and take a teaching position there. It’s temporary, but enough time to help her gether feet back on the ground and mend her heart.

It’s in England that she meets Theo, the Duke of Embertonk. Duke is a bit out of her league but from the moment the two connect, sparks fly and there’s so much chemistry it isn’t even funny. Even though the arrangement the two have is friends who get a little kinky sometimes, there’s a clear flirty, romantic undercurrent all the time.

This book was everything I enjoy in a romance story. The plot was good, the leading man was oh-so-sexy, and the accompanying characters were well-developed and played a wonderful role in the story. I enjoyed the interactions between Theo and Bonnie. The story is well-written and encompassed everything I’d expect in a situation like this, including a realistic (in my opinion) portrayal of how the social differences between Theo and Bonnie would play out.

If you enjoy royal stories and are looking for something fun and sexy to enjoy this summer, Smitten by the Brit is for you!

Bonnie had her whole life planned out since she was little. She knew who she was going to marry, what she was going to be when she grew up, and who her best friends will always be. Until the day that everything changed. When she walks in on her fiancé in an uncompromising position with another woman, she takes a job in England for the summer.
Theo is being pressured by his Mum to marry in order to keep his title. However when he runs into Bonnie and finds out how her life changed he is in for a new ride.
I love this series each book is better than the last.

With so many depressing things going on in the world, I have added a lot of romance novels into my to be read pile.
Melonie Johnson is a new to me author and she will now be added to one of my favorites. I was pulled into SMITTEN BY THE BRIT from the very beginning.
Bonnie has been with Gabe for a long time. They have finally become engaged, but no date has been set yet. Everything is blown to smithereens when she comes home to discover Gabe "in the act". To add insult to injury, the guilty couple is using Bonnie's quilt from her grandmother. Bonnie runs away to a hotel room provided by a close friend whose father owns the hotel.
Bonnie gets a lucky break to teach in England for the summer, so she can "lick her wounds" and be around to help her good friend, Cassie, who is marrying a charming Scot, Logan, at the end of the summer.
Bonnie and her besties took a trip to Great Britain the year before, which how Cassie met Logan. Bonnie met an interesting Englishman, Theo, who showed up in the United States right before Bonnie left for England to teach. When she gets to England, she is hesitant to get in touch with Theo so soon after she was devastated when her long term relationship exploded.
Theo is on a mission from his mother to find a rich heiress to save their estate and lifestyle. He is attracted to Bonnie, but will he pick saving his family over love?
Author Melonie Johnson develops Bonnie and Theo extremely well. There is just the right amount of sizzle. Even though they are from different backgrounds, they have the same basic outlook on life.
I loved the descriptions of all the preparations for the wedding. It was charming that Cassie was flexible and not a "Bridezilla"
If you are looking a book that is uplifting and charming, SMITTEN BY THE BRIT, is perfect. I will reviewing ONCE UPON A BAD BOY very soon, by this same author.

Bonnie and Theo's story has a little bit of a fairy-tale feel in current times. He is an English Duke and she is a college professor who specializes in British Literature. They meet when they can't do anything about the their mutual attraction with her being engaged, but when her engagement abruptly ends all all bets are off.

A quirky and fun novel with some incredibly sexy scenes and great characters.

Great playful and fun romance that kept me smiling and swooning! What a fun read! This book is full of swoon worthy moments and great chemistry! It also made me laugh at times! Great read to sit back and ignore the world with!

Bonnie had the biggest disappointment of her life to find that her fiancé cheated on her.
She, so romantic, having believed that she had found her Prince Charming, decides to close herself to love... until she finds the archetype of Jane Austen's hero in a person.

Theo Wharton may not be perfect, but his accent... wow !! Which woman could resist?
But he was genuinely interested in Bonnie.
Now, he needed to prove to her that more than being the embodiment of a Mr. Darcy, he was the right guy to be her life partner.

Romance from start to finish.

This was cute but a bit too insta-lovey for me. I've come to the realization that maybe this series just isn't for me.

I read Getting Hot by the Scot and loved it, so I thought I'd love this one just the same...sadly that wasn't the case. While it was enjoyable, it felt very drawn out and the chemistry/story just wasn't as enticing as the previous title.

This book has a captivating storyline that grabs you right from the start keeping you engrossed and on edge throughout the whole book!

It is wrought with emotion, and so well written that I absolutely could not put it down!

Both were well-educated and well-read, they both loved to throw out obscure quotes in conversation, and they were very attracted to each other. Theo and Bonnie spend most of their summer together, and while Theo knows he is expected to marry an English heiress with enough money to rebuild the failing Emberton coffers, he is falling in love with Bonnie.

Romance and heartache, denial and duty – this book has it all. Bonnie’s decision to move on from her heartbreak and Theo’s war with his mother’s high expectations make for an interesting story. I enjoyed this second book in the series that kept me in touch with the five girls that I met in Hot for the Scot, and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

Five stars and here’s why:

Melonie Johnson is the ROM-COM queen! Her characters are LOL funny, her settings the perfect backdrop for romance, and her plots believable. If you like swoon-worthy guys who fall fast and hard for savvy girls, plus a sexy romance that’s a total page-turner, then this book is for you. Highly recommend.

I thought I loved Bonnie Blythe and Theo Wharton when they were just meddling friends in book one of the series but I had no idea how hard I would fall for them in this book. Bonnie has it rough in the beginning of the book as she finds herself ending her very long engagement to her douche of a fiancé. Thankfully that is just the in Theo is looking for. Even as secondary characters in their friends' book (Getting Hot With The Scot) their chemistry was hard to miss. 

Poor martyr Theo is doing everything to maintain his Duke title and hold his family together and an affair with an American is the last thing he should be pursuing. However and thankfully, the both of them can't stay away from each other. Especially since Theo reminds Bonnie so much of romantic heroes in the books she loves and made career teaching about.

Melonie Johnson really knows how to make supporting characters shine through. It was hard to not be entertained by Bonnie's girl gang as they rallied behind their girl or Theo's family. 

The story is super charming and full of swoon. My heart is still so light from their well deserved HEA. I recommend this romantic comedy to anybody who needs a great love story to lift them out of the book funk. Even if you have not read the first book you can dive into it as a standalone... with minor spoilers.

This book was an easy read and okay. I liked the female friendships in it, but the romance part seemed rather rushed. I wondered more than once if I missed some of the build-up in their interactions since I hadn't read the first book in this series, which is why I feel like they jumped a lot of relationship-stepping-stones, especially since she had just gotten out of a VERY long relationship.

I probably won't read the rest of this series unless I get them as galleys, but if you like cute and easy reads with a hot Brit heavily featured, this book is for you.
